Umm.. you can see where he brushed and maybe used a smudge. He can't teach good asthetic sense.

Quality stuff as usual a50, good to see somebody makes use of all those filters, masks and blending modes.

To everyone else.. my suggestion is to play with soft brushes and the smudge tool. Then try things like colorizing and after that play with the color balance some.. you can get some really interesting results from adjusting the colors of your shadows, highlights and lowlights.

If anyone else has the same problem, all I did was duplicate the layer. Then make the blending option for the duplicate "overlay". It should brighten up behind all the backround layers.

I think it looks fine, Kage. Good sig. You might consider moving the chars for the sake of symmetry (just a preference) but other than that I think it looks real good. Despite how I do my sigs I really do like the grainy stuff.

I'm not a big fan of borders, to be honest. And I'm not terribly satisfied with the final appearance much either. I like the mist (a lot), I like the stock image (I haven't seen it used yet) but I have yet to think of a way to pull it all together yet.

edit2: The ep that inspired the sig had a honey colored background in many of the aura sequences.. I think that's the avenue I'll explore.

I think some of the more advanced photoshop users should give a very general sig making tutorial on their style of backrounds and effects. I'm not saying I want a step by step on how to make sigs just like you. But just a general outline on creating some of the more difficult effects in photoshop. Don't start to get all pissy and defensive about this. I don't want you to reveal all your secrets but to help some of us out with learning a little beyond the basics. If all you have to say is "Well I learned it myself you can too" then you obviously don't see the point in this post.

I'm aware of this site, I just thought it would be better if some of the gw members made a tutorial. The reasons are obvious, you guys have a lot of experiance in working with anime images. The tutorials on the web-site are not for sig sizes. And if we have a question about the tutorial, we have someone to ask.

Their were a few tutorials a long time back, before the forums went through that major downtime. I remember there was Uzumaki Naruto #1's Grid Tutorial and DragunZero's Basic Tutorial (but it looks like their gone). R3n's Grunge Tutorial is still up if you like. I'm sure if you ask someone for a specific tutorial (grunging, explosion-type backgrounds, etc.), then they'd do it. Until then, I think its best to stick with Good Tutorials. After all, they do have a bunch of tutorials with some effects that your asking some Gw members for.

Well the one person's sigs that I like are Souryusen's. I like the orange Uchiha one. Souryusen and a50 are my two favorite sig makers. I don't think they're the best, just that I like they're styles the most. And I know you could make a great tutorial Soury.

Looks alright.. I'm not wild about the quality of the Lee image but then I'm not sure what sorta quality (smooth or rough?) you were shooting for. If you're shooting for clean then there are some tricks you can use for better image quality.

Like souryusen said earlier, you need a better quality picture of rocklee. there are weird looking edges and the picture is very choppy. and aside from quality issue, i like the first rock lee one better because the "kage bar" is aligned with his eyes where as the 2nd rock lee one isn't, and you see his hand in the way of his face.

i think the stock image is fine, i dont see the problems people are having with it. Maybe their monitors are just too bright and they're picking up artifacts that shouldnt be visible i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif

but like mut said, try changing your color scheme. The blue doesnt work as well with lee.
Also, put a border around your sig. It NEVER looks right when details of images spill into the solid grey backgrounds of the forum

thats almost the same as what i did, its actually better than the way i did it =D. nice find learnt something new.

i used a different pattern with the filter instead of an ice beam. i also made abit of an explosion background and changed the colour to blue so its like an ice blast. one day ill find the tutorial for the explosion effect and post the link here.

and the rock lee sig looks much better now, i don't know if you improved the quality or not, but when im using 800x600 resolution it looked fine. and the blue text and green background doesn't match. actually alot of colours dont match with green.

a sig takes anyhting from 30 minutes -> 5 hours depending on how smooth it goes and if you know how you want it to look. if you bumb into problems here and there that can drag it on for an extra hour.

About the sig time, I usually hit an hour to an hour and a half. I do sometimes go to two hours but thats about it.

You may want to play with the transparency of you grid. Chouji and that BG aren't gelling all that well either.

Also, you may wish to do something to make your PSJ logo stand out some. I almost missed it with the grid and all.

Oh and Naroku, when you're erasing edges use brush mode instead of pencil. It seems like you're using pencil which is causing the jaddedness.

@Hellraiser: Its not bad but its kind of hard to see your name. You might want to give it a stroke. And also, that pic of Sephiroth isnt really that good (the one on the right, the one on the left is fine). You might want to find a better pic if you can.

Not bad Naroku! You might want to stretch Kakashi a bit more. You can see part of his Konoha Forehead Protector is cut off. Just a small Free Transform should do the trick. And thanks Jing i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif.

Ed does look a touch different. A bit clearer.
I went back to my gaara sig. The thing about the laughing man sig was that I just sorta took a banner for a site that I made, and just decreased the size.

I like it, especially the version with the glowing letters that you use in your sig.

much better without the lid man. good job, mr.x if you want to blend a pic into a sig. first make it black and white, afterthat you put it in a black and white sig on top of that you do the color balance and it will look much better, you could also use some brushes on top of the character image but make sure to make a new layer and have it set to soft light.

just some little facts. Hes name is master chief but hes real name is John. He is supposed to be the last surviving spartan( a military project to nake super soldiers). his armor is called the Mjolnir and in the second game it was enhanced to mark IV to V. I don't suggest doing a background. It's good as it is. Not all sigs need a background or effects. Simplicity is actually a really good style. Most people in this forum is too focused on abstract. Take his for example, if 90% of the signature is covered by content, then why would you even bother adding 10% of background into it? it will look awkward, unneeded, and non-effective.
