I actually edited it, but I didnt touch the text. I simply want the text really simple in this one, since I was going for simplicity for the whole thing, though I do like your version as well.

Here is the new one with Lelouch's face (eyes specifically) edited. The original was him looking scared/shocked to see C.C. trying to kiss him. In the previous wall, I tried removing the shock look, but ended up with a dozed off expression. This one I edited to make the encounter really passionate and well, mutual. Lelouch doesnt have the right to be surprised at C.C.'s approach twice, and it is no one's right to even think of disliking it. I also edited the title, since I noticed that the image actually looks like a dance.

Work with the 2nd and brighten the renders colors a bit.

The first draws my eyes to the lens flare, its just far too bright.
The 2nd is a bit too desaturated. Ya need to whiten the eyes abit, because atm I can't tell em apart from the face.

Last thing I'd recommend is putting some sorta vector thingy in the upper left corner. Everywhere is is vectorized save that and its like weird. All in all, nice job C, and glad to see someone attempting a signature.

I have some problems with that sonic one though, It's all wrong using a 3D render in a complete vector background, it messes up the depth perception so much, you need to make the background more in tune with the render, otherwise it looked good.

@zinobi - I really like it. It should look even better though, if you make the text part of the design, which should not be too hard because it uses lines and blocks.

@lucifus - agreed with simplicity is beauty, which is why I prefer the first one. Just maybe darken the colors and improve contrast like the second one.

lucifus, that naruto one is awesome. I agree about the Haku one... not the best result from that effect... In the Naruto one, though, I'm not loving the text. The font looks too 'show-boaty' and boisterous, and the mood of the sig doesn't really fit that...

the second CC one is preferrable, because of the effect it has on enhancing the text... but I don't like what the brushing did on the left side...

Shinta: the sig is nice, but way too 'flat'. Try to make either the flowers or CC stand out more from the other.

Zinobi: man, you really need to make a tutorial for how to use patterns and stuff like that. outstanding BG

Just Copy Render Layer
Scale Larger a little bit
Filter > Pixelate > Mosaic 8-12px
FIlter > Stylize > Find Edges
Then just stretch (oh god :o) to fit

Might make one but I think that gives it justice.

I'm not gonna comment on your mistakes simply because I know you already know them. You just need a couple hours in photoshop to jog your memory. And I know your next photoshop job is gonna blow most of us away and make me eat my above criticism! =)

I'll say one thing though, because it would just be plain rude to type all this out just to say it sucks without giving a reason. Its a basic step too, which backs up my statement that you just need to get rid of the rust. Your render quality is nonexistent! Choose a nice and shiny one next time KitKatZ! So with your next one we can return to normalcy by showering you with praise! Good lucks. :cool:

I prefer the solid blocks, it just works so well. As to my 'quickie', I can only say its a quickie just because of how many times I've worked with fading patterns and lighting before. When doing my current for example, it took more than a couple hours. One you get a style down though, it just take a few minutes to replicate.

Thanks for the comments and encouragements, Luci. Although, I think you likely over-estimate my photoshop skills. It's been so long since I was really into photohop, and even then most of my good sigs were happy accidents. We'll see if I manage to get my sig quality up to par again.

so, it's again been awhile since I've done anything in Photoshop...

I started out trying to follow Lucifus' tutorial, but I rather quickly abandoned that. For some reason, I couldn't find a C4D to do what I wanted... It simply filled the sig with too much dark areas, and I couldn't get it to look the way I wanted by erasing...

Well, here's the progression:

Basic render, desaturized background

Render duplicated and set to Overlay. A layer of soft brushing (with a huge brush), lighter on the top left, darker on the bottom right. And that whole big mess on top is the render set to Hard Light Blending... (Most of it has also been erased with a soft brush, so you can imagine how dark it was to begin with).

After several unsuccessful attempts to follow through with the Tut, I did an about face.

Basically, I found a new C4D and, soft erased a good portion of it, and set it on top with Hard Light Blending. Then I duplicated the original C4D, erased less of it, put it on the very top on Soft Light (most of the erasng was in the middle of the sig, around the render)

So here's where I went nuts. I turned on the C4D from version 2, but on Vivid Light at a low Fill, erasing most of it on the right side. I played around with the two C4D layers from version 3 (Drop Shadow and Satin on the Hard Light) (Inner Glow on the Soft Light). A layer of brushing on top of that. The render copied and set to Hard Light on top of that. Then Color Balance (but Masked out of the center of the render). Saturation down, Lightness up. Magenta Photo Filter. Brushing for a 'mist' effect. Border.

It's certainly not my best ever. I'd love to hear what people have to say. I know it can be improved, but I'm pretty much at my wit's end with this.

I like the effects... just that, I think the render should face the other way, due to the shading on the face and cloak.

From the two C.C. ones you posted, I like the 1st one best. The brushing is awesome and it's just sexier and more sultry! The yellow/orange tint/glare in the second one sometimes clashes with her hair (especially right above the eyes)

Too many colors! Other than that, I like.

Your previous Ichigo one was a simple 3 color scheme layout. Try to replicate that, hell, desaturize your renders if you have to. Or at least desaturize the areas where your blending the render into the background.

My favorite is the Thundercat one, though the backgrounds a little too empty/cloudy, good job.

@Carnage - I agree with Luci, simple is best, especially with the number of colors.

@Luci - All of them look great, but the SaberxPenguin one is fucking hilarious. I love it. In fact, I like it so much Im using it as my desktop background. The fact that I havent used a wallpaper that I havent made for maybe a year now should make my point clear.

EDIT - can you share the image you used for that wallpaper? it is practically the only image so far that has diverted my attention from C.C.

The signatures on the other hand, hmm, well you should try to keep your focus centralized. Two renders are okay, but if ya got one on the left and another on the right, when ya look at it, what are you gonna see?

Blur the other one. Make it more of a BG than a centerpiece. I personally prefer the smaller image to stand out more, but thats just me.

@Lucifus - the doujin CC santa is a bit impossible, but a colored image will probably be done soon enough. I have one from minitokyo, but its too "slutty" for my taste. CC has always been sexy, but not slutty IMHO.

Hum.....not like many rules are enforced around here nowadays, but that CC one is probably NSFW, and you might want to link it. But seriously man, how much did CC pay for that boob job? She should get a refund because given that she's twig-like already, the poor girl probably can't even walk anymore from being so top-heavy.

The gundam sig is decent besides the middle where there's somewhat of a visible 'seam' between the render and the bg. The left side blends really well though.

Luci back in the photoshopZ! Here's my comments:

I like the two Saya sigs with the clean lines, warm colours, and faded bits. You always have a really good sense of which colours go well together, and your backgrounds have lovely colour gradients which match your renders. The first Saya avatar though seems too harsh. It doesn't seem to match with the colour scheme. Maybe it's just the render being coloured and lighted fairly differently. I also really like the 'pretend text' effect on the first sig.

Going back to your previous set you made, I feel like the generic C4D render background just isn't that exciting for the first two. It's just kind of there, but not really complementing your renders in the first two. The Haruhi one has promise, however (and this applies to the first of that set as well) the text has got to go. It's too big, partially unreadable, and just looks shoddy. I know very well the trials and tribulations of text. You can usually make your text look professional and polished though, as you demonstrated quite nicely in your most recent set. If you fix the text on the Haruhi one, you'll have a very nice sig.

And I second the call for a tutorial. I'd make a siggy from it if you wrote up another tut for gotwoot, and you know how hard it is to drag me away from my knitting these days. :P

I agree that the first one there is the best out of that set. One thing that I think you could work on that would make your sigs stand out a lot more is putting some more light-dark variation into your backgrounds. What makes the first sig the most visually appealing is that your background moves from dark to light. If you go back in this thread and look at the different sigs Luci has made, you'll notice that his backgrounds are never uniform but always incorporate some light areas and some dark areas. Ideally, you want to design this contrast so that it brings more focus to your render.

Looking good though. I think you've got lots of potential. I'm looking forward to seeing more sigs from you!

I haven't visited this thread much recently because I'm too ashamed of my lack of effort to make myself a new sig (this one is serious getting old, literally and otherwise). However, seeing KitKat's new ava/sig forced me to pay a visit. It's also very good work. Pretty bold contrast in the lighting but it looks good once you get used to it.

Junior: Keep it up, they're not where you want em yet, but keep it up and I assure you; you'll get there. I recommend Master_me's tutorial. Its what really got me into making quality stuff.

Just a little ditty I did in paint... not very good, but then again, not photoshop. The 'smiley' if you will, is Agnry Faic of Newgrounds fame made into crappy paint version. If I had my stylus and pad, it would've turned out much better. Meh, I felt like a change, so here you go.

The glow was actually what caused me some trouble in the making of the sig, because I liked it, but it's not really cut-out-able. And going and cutting out the entire render getting rid of all of the glow would have been more time than I was willing to put toward sig making tonight, especially when I would have just gone and added the glow back in after I was done, because that's the look I wanted. So, the fanart there became the bottom layer of my sig, and all my other layers are applied overtop. I was surprised that it worked out how it did.

I actually use that style a lot when making sigs and wallpapers. By that style, I mean using the BG of the image itself, just editing it without cutting it out. It saves time and usually provides a good base for creativity.

I'm glad there are other Yin fans out there. I thought she was half the goodness of DTB. I really like your current, with her smiling and all, something which only DTB watchers would appreciate fully.

I watched the last 6 episodes of Shakugan no Shana II tonight, and decided Sabrac was badass enough to deserve a sig.

I went through a couple variations with the text, and yet there is still something that irks me about it. I was just too tired to keep trying new things, thus the text remains the same.

I also wish the image I used to cut the render was a little higher quality, but I had to grab a screencap to use as I wasn't having any luck finding any nice images to use on the net.

I like the composition TT. It would have been better with a higher quality render, but it works as-is. The text I think just doesn't mesh well with the rest of the sig. It sticks out too much. That can work with a sig, but if you're going to have super-noticeable text, place it in a more prominent position. The corner is more suited for subtle text. Also, since your sig overall has a soft blurred look, maybe blur your text to match. It's too sharp right now for the style of sig. At least, I think that might help. It's hard to tell without actually trying it and looking at the results.

I like the sig and the fire is (excuse the pun) hot, but I think it's a bit too bright on the red. It gets quite tiring to look at after awhile. I would suggest toning down on the vibrant red and instead using a layer of blurred maroon or burgundy over what you have there. I think it would help cut down on that exhausting brightness. I like the text the way you have it, it fits in well. Overall, a pretty good job. I like it!

Heh Thanks. Actually, I pretty much used the basic brushing techniques with various splatter brushes, but you can find a few of the different tuts in this thread.
