Text sucks, the outer glow is worthless, i have seen you do much better texts. You have lowered the opacity on the cape on the render where it pops out of the background so you can see the baby blue border and that looks very strange, also you might try a darker blue on the border.

The background looks pretty nice though.

I prefer the 2nd version since the dark colors goes more with the mood that the person is injured and maybe depressed or lost hope.

The thing with the dark one is that the hair is bright and you don't have any bright areas in the background, that looks very wierd. You need highlights and shadows in the bg, now you got one color in most parts of the bg, test out brushing.

I agree with PSJ; fix the lighting, so instead of an overall brightness, try having light coming from the east. The background could use a bit of brushing too.

The new pack I used is a clouds pack with the filename "clouds_michmellow". That was for the background. The bottom of the cape is a pack called "Spazz Lighting 2" and it's my favorite brush pack. It's probably the most useful brush pack in my collection and I use it on pretty much all my sigs.

If you mean dull by "theres nothing there", that was the intention. If you mean dull by "blurry" that's because it's supposed to draw focus to the sharper left side.

I dunno, I still just feel like it's too empty. Try making the canvas smaller or moving Ichigo over a bit? Then again, that's just what I would to do make it look better. Even if you don't touch the sig, it's still looks good and is unique from most of the other sigs we see at this forum.

That's a very cool sig. You don't see B/W sigs that much nowadays, but you succeeded with one very well. The cropping was also positively effective. I don't feel there's any problem, at least anymore, with the right side. Being critical is fine, but being overly critical leads to projects never being finished.

The third Gaara one needs a lot of work. As you said, it is way too crowded. Three renders is too much, try to reduce it to two or even one. The text is also hard to read and needs some work. I really like your second one though.

It's... pretty interesting. Sprites don't usually make for a good sig, imho. If you were to use it, I'd probably rework the background since it's a bit dark compared to the sprites.

The black border on the text works with the black border around the sig, that was what i was going for anyway.

People are generally picky with texts because well texts are hard to make them look good.

And I have no clue what the :::: thing is for but I can't help but notice that you mispelled Sharingan.

The Uchiha crest can be bigger (is that little white thing supposed to be the crest?) and I'd brush more on the left side. The render isn't terribly smooth but that can be a good look sometimes... Did you do a color balance?

edit - oh yeah, i have a new avatar. Id, pilot of the Gear in my sig. In the background is the eye prevalent on Zohar. I was having trouble getting the avatar's colors to match the sigs and still be able to see both the eye and his face... Yes, up that high was the best place I could find to put his face...

I like it quite a lot. There isn't wasted, empty looking space at all, the render has nice cropping and positioning. You seem to be a fan of symbols placed into the background, like the wind wheel in this one, so I won't comment that.

The colour balance is quite interesting. The red, orange and yellow hues fit perfectly, and strangely enough the almost violet shade in her hair doesn't clash either, badly. However, I don't see the point of the mostly empty headers you have been adding to the left of the images. But I guess that's some personal trick of yours.

Take out any little extra things you threw into the background. Everything except for the curse seal :P

On the sasuke sig take out the little techy things and get rid of that god awful border. Throw in a nice 1px black border and you'll have a beautiful sig.

On the gift for kit kat take out the little sun thing on the right and that nasty outer glow border and just leave it again with a 1px black border.

Hmm... I kind of like it. When I look at it, I do get a feeling the render looks somehow small compared to the background, but that might be because the background figure reminds me of cow parsley, which isn't that huge plant, but in your picture depicted large, whereas Saber is quite delicate and filled with small details. But there is a certain sense of theatrics in the picture, which allows more freedom than simple poses.

Thanks for the comments. I agree with you two that the render is small in comparison to rest of the sig. The render was pretty large and I wanted as much of the render showing without compromising quality as possible. I may edit it and make it a little larger though.

It feels much more balanced now. The render and the background don't connect in my mind in the most optimal way, making them look like separate entities in the same pic. However, I'm not so sure that's exactly any problem always, and with definitive limits and borders to the render, speaking about blending is irrelevant, other than what comes to the colour scheme. Obviously the background doesn't have any blue, which is one more separating factor. But like I said, there's no rule saying they should look like they were made for each others. (Heh, although I should never refer to the things I call my own sigs, but my render/bg have no more common factors than yours...)

There's to much brushing on the left side of the scythe. And you could add a color balance layer, but keep it low to make it more grim looking, try a subtle blue, purple or red color. Besides that i think it looks good, can you maybe show me where to find that render?

Like someone said before, there's too much empty space and not enough "action" where it isn't empty. It just looks pretty dull with the exception of the shiny scythe.

The brushing is also awkward. It's coming down at a 45 degree angle, but doesn't seem to serve any purpose. This might be the biggest issue.

Looks nice. My only concern is that the techy border doesn't fit the picture inside. It's also much sharper than the picture inside, which makes it a bit awkward. I'm a fan of 1 pixel black borders.

Yeah, a lot of people felt that way. It just looked sort of empty without it, and I tried a few other borders. It wasn't a very good sig from the start.

Anyway, I finally took the time to reinstall Windows and fix photoshop. I've been toying around and came up with a few that I like.

I did the same thing with this as the one above, but I wanted to be sure the technique worked all around and gave off the same sort of vibe. I also discovered a method of embossing text, as if coming out of the landscape.

Well you know my opinion already and yeah i agree that the sugestions that you incorparated from Thi3f does make it look alot better. Nice job with using the contrast layer.

There are still some blood spots visible though, if you have time maybe you can fix that. That might make it look even more awsome than it is right now.

Awww, look at Saber she looks so innocent and fragile, who would think from looking at that sig that she commands the most powerful weapon of all (Avalon, if i remember correctly). Great job man. Keep it up.

DeadFire: keep working on them, and experiment more with the fonts. They don't match. Lets see... there are no borders, some blending problems with all of them. Pixelation problems with assassin, the purple smudge on the lower right corner, is not needed.

I think it's quite interesting, and quite good. Clashing colours is mainly an issue of colour balancing, contrast, incidence, and distribution in the image and especially between the components of the image, in sigs particularly between the render and the background. Thus the more varied colours used in general, the less of an issue it becomes. Your sig has quite a wide range of hues used, and that lessens the probability of clashing.

Yeah, I think it's very usable indeed. The cropping of the background image seems to concentrate mainly on showing the boobs and little else, and I don't necessarily see the artistic merit of that. Personally I also think the render might be too blurried, but perhaps that goes along with the heavy contrast. The weight of the image is balanced heavily to the left right now (disregarding the mostly empty space on the utmost left), but inequality is common in sigs, and doesn't mean anything, so this is just a point, not a suggestion to do anything.

Removed the empty space to the left, I should really take the time to fix this sig up. It should come out decently, I did this in about 10 mins........

A simply color balance should help, and I should definatly lessen the blurring. The boobs....well...it just came out that way.:cool:

I've always been a big fan of dark wallpapers because bright colors on the desktop hurt my eyes. My only concern is the white FFVII text, which I might change a little bit when I next feel like Photoshopping.

Lossy or not, there is pretty much no visible difference between a max quality JPG and PNG. If the JPG turns out to be smaller, I'll take the JPG. If PNG smaller, I'll take PNG.

Ok, I just did a little test with that Vincent wallpaper I made, PNG vs Max JPG
-Side by side, there are no differences (Faststone Image Viewer has this feature)
-JPG displays negligible artifacts at 300% zoom. I was able to tell because Faststone Image Viewer has an overlay feature that compares two images directly, and the difference can be easily spotted.
-JPG artifacts are slightly more visible when zoomed in 1000%, PNG is lossless as expected
-PNG was 50% larger than JPG

IMO, the 50% larger filesize does not warrant lossless compression. For small pictures like sigs, sure it's fine, but for larger images like wallpapers, filesize is very important if you want to put it online for others to see. JPG is the MP3 of the digital image world.

I think 400x100 is too wide for what you're trying to do. Shrink it to 350x100 or even 300x100 so there's less "emptiness".

Ok first of all your #1 problem is text, in everything. Onto your sig; you de-saturated the render which is a big no in my book (and most other graphic artists out there), those griddy scanlines look horrible, and the sig has 0 flow. So you pretty much just smacked me in the dick after that gaara sig >.<'

Your template isn't horrible but it's deffinitley mediocre. The text again is horrible, and the banner leaves much to be desired. Try sticking to a few choice colors and make them flow. It doesn't need to be all techy looking to be badass. Simpler is easier and makes it look less noob-style.

Actually, without the water paper touch on the edge, it looked it even worse. I might be able to change that to something else, though. Also, the render is technically grey instead of green; I set it to luminosity by accident, and, well, it for some reason looked good to me that late at night. I can absolutely see where you guys are coming from, though.

I usually brush on the adjustment layers so only certain parts are affected. This way you can maintain the colors and still achieve the blending.

Just messing with some brushes and decided to render another Saber pic.
The same goes for the text. Just some toying around with different ideas and this was the one that stood out most to me. Comment/Suggestions welcome as always.

Text and render stand out too much. The background needs more dark areas to match the shadowed areas on Saber. Other than that, the style of background is nice. Just change the coloring.

OR......

Drastically change the levels and curves on the render, then darken the background a lot but leave one bright spot. I believe this would give a silhouette type of look.

v1/2/3 in order; I felt it needed to be a bit darker and a bit rustier to fit the mood ._.;;

I really like the way v3 turned out, as the colors give a fading impression and the mood matches. I made it 80x80 because it looks better in 80x80 to me for some reason >_>
