ok for those of you who are interested and are using a CRT monitor, (maybe some lcds too, not mine anyway) you can calibrate your monitor color settings.

if you have photoshop installed, go to control panel > adobe gamma
choose the wizard and follow the instructions
for the gamma setting, i suggest unchecking "view single gamma only", so you can accurately adjust each RGB value
also make sure to specify whether you want the windows default or the macintosh default.
then at the end, check the before/after radio button to see the differences that the calibration made to your viewing experience

its always a good idea to make sure your monitor is calibrated when you work with graphics....
i know that for lcd users, there are some stuff on the web you can find to help you out, i lost the link i used to use for mine though i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif

yeah, but it is kinda funny to see the action shot of kakashi stabbing haku with a memory shot of haku's face in the clouds

normally when you present something "in memory of" someone, you dont include the instant that their heart was blasted out of their back i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif
you end up with conflicting moods between a dramatic action shot and the mellow-sad shots

Thanks for the comments you guys, this was my first sig that i ever made to i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif. So the only problems is the text brightness and the white spots. Toruxxx, yea I know, the font isn't all that great. Its called Legion and it looks just like any other old font. I was busy looking for more brushes than fonts. Now that I have plenty of brushes for Grunging, I'll start checking out some cooler fonts. Do you have any in mind that I should look out for?

And PSJ, I know you said I could improve it a bit but I'll stick with it for now. Thanks alot for your input and help you guys (oh yeah, sorry, but I dont know how to make those grids your talking about. Sorry man).

I'm gonna work on a sig for Crono (from Chrono Trigger). I just looked at the Chrono Trigger thread in the General Discussion and its sad that they aren't making a remake of it so I thought it'd be cool to make a grunge sig of it. Thanks again!

nah its not that nara its just that the grunge effect gives a more serious feel to a wallpaper, its just that when you compare the fanart to the bg its placed on it makes neji look too cartoonish, it requires a more serious neji pic to overlay on there, and did u shrink it just for our purposes hopefully you made it at least 1024x768 big

@ Nara Shikamaru VI: thats pretty nice, i like the pattern in the background. i think you should use a darker picture (or darken that 1 up), or rough up the fanart so it blends in better. atm the colours are kinda out of place, but i do like that fanart. and i wouldnt use a shot from the anime instead of fanart, cos in the anime neji looks crappy imo.

If that question was directed towards me, I did some grunge brushes overtop the stock. Then when I did colorize, I colorized the background and stock separately, they both have the same hue/saturation, but I changed the darkness/light setting until it blended well.


And r3n, I would make the matrix effect (I guess you could call it that), more opaque when it goes over Spawns leg, I guess it's just something small that bugs me. The "5" in Spawn isn't to my taste, but that's just my opinion. Other than that, I think you should use it.

not likely, i make sure to keep my monitors accurate using adobe's calibration software

and regardless, the ratio of dark areas to light areas is still very off-balance
levels is good at fixing that, and auto level might be able to get you good results in a matter of a second (although it can be a little unreliable at times)

color bars may calibrate your RGB values, but it has nothing to do with brightness/contrast

hehe. well i have tried brighten them up a little but it doesnt look the way i want them to so i keep them dark. for example my cursed sig with black and purple looks faggy if you make it brighter. and the saito sig doesnt capture saito that good if you got it brighter it just doesnt look good. ans wel the shino sig i dont have any explanation really but i like it dark.

Yeah it possible but rare. I see it all the time between using IE and Safari. it's how the ISP read the color data in an image and loads it to your comp. Most of the time the computer just ignores it or compesates but some times somthing goes wrong anf you get that. when it come to color balance it does have an effect on the contrast of the color so it will effect brightness and what not but through an annoying round about kinda way. But I trust you have every thing under control setup wise but you kight want to try a diffrent ISp just to compare if it's not that then ist some weird fluke that only effects you for some odd reason..

lefty i think you mean browser, not ISP. ISP = internet service provider. that would be like AOL, telewest, British telecom etc. (i dont know any american ones apart from AOL).

i cant say i notice a difference between IE and firefox. but then they might both be calibrated correctly to my monitor.

heh thx. if i could give you a pointer on the grunge it would be to use more brushes. i can easily see every brush you used for that sig, and if theres less they usually dont blend aswell, unless you're going for a collage effect. so yeah, spam the hell outta that canvas with a shitload of brushes. will look better in the end if you use brushes that go well together.

imo i dont like being able to see patches of the base cloud filter, usually means ive not grunged it enough

Saw r3n's Spawn sig, now that is really cool, i like the whole text and green colour of it, really fits well with good old Al Simmons.

Well ... last night I started this to try and force my mind to go numb and let me go to sleep! So, today, before and then after my class I decided I would finish what I started (in the all coolness of Naruto: That is My Way of the Ninja! lol) well ... usually when I think its worth finishing.

Anyway, here it is, its Warhammer 40k, the character from the new game Dawn Of War which I hope to buy sometime next week. Anyway, I thought it would be a decent idea to keep in practice since I am sorta getting board of my sig at the moment ... might make a good one around my avatar.
