A lot of anime groups recently are releasing files with improper file sizes. For example: Code Geass R2 is a 25-episode series, and for that to fit on a single dual-layer DVD, each episode needs to be 325 MB. Instead, Eclipse releases them at 339 MB. Close, but it won't fit. I have to re-encode all of these files to the proper sizes, and each episode takes 2.5 hours of x264 encoding.
Groups should be encoding to sizes that fit on a single or dual-layer DVD. This means the file sizes should vary for each series based on how many episodes there are. Instead, they're still using the "standard" sizes of 170 MB, 233 MB and ~350 MB. It doesn't make any sense. Those sizes were decided upon way back in the day when people burned stuff to CD's. Nowadays, everyone uses DVD's.

My camera runs drains its batteries so damn quickly when it's recording video. I honestly only have time for about 7 minutes of video before it starts shutting itself off. I'm sick and tired of it. If there was a way to record while it was plugged into my laptop, I'd be set, but no. Double AAs only.

Nope. Your mum had that reaction because he slept in a room that had your brother's clothes in them, if I comprehended correctly? (I don't think I did... at all)

He is going to sleep in the room, wich had all the clothes on, thus, she got this strangest reaction. Now, I am actually not totally suprised by her reaction becuse she has done this wierd things since like...ever.
I do get that one may get upset but how she connected all those things just like that doens't make sense to me and she has done that past these ...well, all my life.
I know she's crazy, egotriped and self sorry but damn, she doesn't realize she has lost a son (me) becuse of that attidude.
Damn bitch, go to hell. Now my mood is ruined for the day.

Actually I think one of friends just slept in his brother's room which apparently was quite messy and his mom freaked out, canceled some appointment, called him an alcoholic, called his girlfriend an antisocial retard and said she was going to kill his dog. So he thinks she is crazy and that she can't get past her ego and the fact that she feels so sorry for herself and realize that her actions have caused irreparable damage to their relationship. Something to that extent.

MTV2.
I just recently got this channel, and it's full of crap.
about 60% of the time it has commercials, and the rest is 'my chemical romance'.
not kidding, I've seen 5 'my chemical romance' specials this week alone, they aren't even such a good band.
besides, how hard is it to make a decent rock/alternative music channel?
Metallica, R.E.M, Nirvana, Guns&Roses, Kiss, some Linkin park (Limp bizkit, Blink 182, Sum 41, Avril Lavigne, etc) and some new bands. it's not really a problem, just get rid of all those new british rock/pop bands. seriously, MTVdance seemed like the better choice this week..
also, Guys who watch Soap operas.

My bitch is the company I work for looks for any avenue to cut my hourly pay and now I've been docked twice, once for performance (not raising enough money) and again for missing an optional Friday shift I already told them I would miss because I was working my other job. Well they wanted me to work the optional Friday because I was out Sunday with a family emergency and made it mandatory.
Do they have to be so greedy to take 50 cents of my pay? Do they not remember the frustration of being on the phones all goddamn day?

Well if I do 110% this month I'll get that quarter back, and I'm pretty sure after a month is up I get the quarter back for missing that day anyway. People get cuts or raises every month and it gets fucking irritating. And yeah the turnover rate is ridiculous but thats partly because dealing with people on the phones all day is taxing.

My bitch has been on for a while now. My bitch is that the whole 3 month fuck up on Yahoo's part to let MS buy them, is not turning out any better just for Jerry Yangs Silicon valley 1996 baby. He fucked up, and continues to do so. He blew off Big M and was trying to slowly get them into the $40/share bid. And now, they want to share Google's tech, and give them money for clicks by using their AdSense technology. And becaue of it, for the past 2 nights on and off, Google and Yahoo's sites have been down. Last night I tried to go on before I went to bed and they were down till past 3 this after noon. Just because they're working on getting server crap reorganized for their "partnership" program.

That's a pretty weak cause to bitch. Why not just use altavista or msn search until the others are available? Are you a stock owner in Yahoo? Then you'd have a reason to bitch. This namby-pamby griping goes in the "crying over spilt milk" bin.
My bitch: boredom. I'm out of stuff to do. It takes a week or two to get stuff in that I order online, nothing is available locally, and I'm in a transition period so I can't do anything drastic for the next month. I downloaded a bunch of Japanese dramas on my last R&R, but most of them turned out boring or unwatchable. With the bandwidth monitoring, I can't even download stuff to watch here. The only thing I have for fun is playing God of War on the PS2, but I spend about 3 hours a day at work doing that, so I'm burned out on it when I'm at home, besides the trouble of transporting the PS2 and A/V adapter unit back and forth from the office to home. Boredom really is as bad as being too busy.

Bitching shouldn't be done so casually, just like posting just for the sake of raising your post count. People complain when someone posts constantly, so I have no problem complaining that people complain too much. If that makes me a hypocrite, then so be it. I was a share holder in Yahoo, not anymore. Not since last Thursday. And I use their yahoo Answers page. I have 4 answers on there I need answered and they all had fresh replies to them just from posting them. And that is cause for a bitch because its a serious product of theirs for serving up ads and serving the online community. So it is good enough to bitch about. More for me I have an online ad company that MS will probably be knocking on my door for anytime with in the next half year or so. And I'm only 23. I'm not going to be a fucking moron like Jerry Yang and deny 44+ billion when my shares are tanking. I'll take a little bit and make myself a billionaire and trust MS to make my company into something great while integrating with their adCenter platform.
My complaint is that I've been bothered more and more by Jerry Yangs business lack of business skills. Google just flew right past them and started 7 years after them. Google's founders are worth twice what yahoos ever were. And on top of that, they don't know how to even monotize their site to its full potential, and it's the most trafficed site on the web. On top of that they haven't even tried since the late 90's. It's pathetic. It bothers me because they don't know how to make money anymore and I'm in the fellow business their in. The companies management is broken. Their engineers keep getting fired (good ones). And now they're messing with Google's business actions. Messing up a perfectly fine company.
I'm bothered as a dot-com businessman. Not so much as a user of their community. Besides I hate Yahoo. I cashed out my options last week and left them alone.

However it still remains to be seen what Yang and co were thinking in not taking the offer from MS.

I need to stop making friends with seniors. Everyone I get friendly with in any of my classes always ends up graduating at the end of that semester.
I just said goodbye to a really interesting dude from my Phonology class, and I don't think I'll ever get to hang out with him because he's graduating and moving to another city. I also have another friend who I would talk to about comedians and weightlifting and stuff, but he's graduating too, and I can't even find him on facebook. Probably never even see him again. The whole thing is really kinda depressing because this has happened almost every semester.

I was in college for 8 years (for a variety of reasons). I made a whole generation of friends, had them graduate, made another generation of friends, had them graduate, and then started making a third generation before I finally finished up.
Saying goodbye to all your close friends sucks. Doing that 3 times ... sucks a LOT. When two of those three "goodbye" waves include romantic connections... it's just downright depressing.

That is depressing. You guys must have good people in your schools. I went to a community college for a bit after trying a university. No dice man. I think that a majority of that time I was trying to make friends, it was terrible. They were either all really stupid and/or didn't really know anything about the subject in the class, causing them to drop it quickly. Plus, I don't know about you guys, but it's hard to find people who don't drink, smoke, go to bars or have some public agenda shown through their clothing. It kind of makes you want to vomit a bit.
Another thing was. Most of the time you actually try and make friends, most people are shy to start to get to know or open up too. Girls even really. But I guess that could be because they were trying not to flunk out by focusing on their school work.

Being assigned group assignments and tutorial workgroups by the college/uni are very good ways to get you to know people. I know all my uni friends that way, since only 3 people from my high school went to the same uni as me. I don't have to worry about this issue since most of the people I know from uni are in my year, and those who aren't I barely ever see them anyway.
When I started high school, a lot of my friends were seniors, and almost graduating ones too, so I know how it feels though.

So the current subject is making friends in school, huh? I had a huge trouble when I first started high school, one was for how I did look and the second my ...uuh.. personality. At first glance I thought my class where a totall of "cool badboys" that thought they were something, you know, the usual stuff.
And hey, what to expect when your going to carpentry class?
But in the end, I actually manage, evem my wierdness but it closly made me drop out, big time.
I'm still having friends trouble outside school, though...need to take care of those too..

CCs are used a lot in the professional world.
You've never been in a situation where you are working on something with a team of people, and you're specifically talking to one member of the team but want the others to be able to observe it or provide input/feedback?
Animeniax

Yes, cc's are vital in business to communicate and keep everyone informed. It's the worst when some chowderhead claims they didn't get the information and therefore they're not accountable, but your group is still in a bind because of their neglect.
bcc's on the other hand are asking for trouble and are an underhanded way to deal with people. You never know who's being bcc'd, so go with the adage: reread what you write before hitting send.
My bitch: the weather and airline companies. I couldn't fly out on R&R today because of a dust storm at a remote location. So I call Expedia and they transfer me to the airline (United) and I find out they have this ridiculous policy that you can only change your ticket if you buy one level up of service. The next level up of service costs $1500 more, plus a $100 change fee, and still coach class. No thanks. I call up Expedia again and they check around and get me rescheduled for $270 more. So it will cost me almost a full day's work more for my plane ticket. And what's worse, tomorrow might be another bad weather day, so I would have to change my ticket again and pay more fees. I shouldn't gripe because it's pocket change, but money is money and I'd rather spend that $270 on a new monitor instead of lining the airline's pockets.

Replies to emails that had BCC recipients don't go to BCC recipients though.
I see people use this trick to mass-email notifications, where they put their own email address in the TO field, and then all the recipients in the BCC field. Not only does it keep the recipients' emails private, but it also allows them to reply to the notification without it getting sent to anyone except the original sender.

Since you're not seeing a doctor anytime soon, try to keep a diary of it. When it attacks, right down things like what you were doing at the time, what you were doing perhaps an hour prior to it. The time of day and season it was, any medication you had recently. Some joint pains are supposedly related to humidity, so maybe if it was raining recently, and so on.

My bitch: downloading torrents on Comcast while they apply traffic shaping to my connection. When shaping/throttling isn't occurring, I get 100-300kBps per torrent. When their damn sandvine box is running, I get 10-20kBps per torrent. I have limited time to complete these downloads while I'm at home on vacation, then it's back to the desert where all bandwidth usage is monitored and bt and p2p is restricted. I've been reading up on encryption and ssh tunneling but haven't bothered to mess with it since I'm only in town a couple weeks. I've read in a few instances that it didn't help, as some traffic shaping appliances will still throttle your connection if it thinks you're transferring bt, regardless if they actually detect the presence of bt in your data transfers.
Buffalobiian
Wed, 05-21-2008, 07:17 AM
Hmm, well if they end up throttling you, I guess it's worth a try. It's as easy as ticking the "enable encryption" square under your client settings. Maybe the additional "force encryption" or rather if they're really strict. I guess down here where you pay for traffic, they don't care what you download as long as you pay up.

Temperature might have something to do with it. After lying in bed for a while later that night, I noticed the pain was gone and I could move my arm however I wanted. It was much warmer under the bed sheets. Also, I think it only happens in winter or cold weather. I don't recall this ever occurring in summer.

Dude, MGS4 will own anything the 360 has coming out in the same timeframe until its release. If I were you (which I'm not, of course) I'd still sell the 360.
My bitch: Vista parental controls.
As I've said in one thread or another, my father pretty much owned me by setting up the parental controls on his laptop. In order to complete this trick, he even set up a profile for me. I should have known then and there that something was up, because there was absolutely nothing wrong with his profile (besides the fact that I had downloaded WinAmp, Flash, Photoshop and Firefox on it, but that's nothing really.). Now, quite a bit of Gotwoot, more than half of the stuff on Newgrounds, and a whole crapload of other things are blocked from my use. This frickin' thing is worse than the school's internet protocol now. Bah.

Annoying thing is I didn't even get much use out of it. I've probably only turned it on like 20times, and I'm pretty sure it's lasted no more than 6 months. I would so return it to Samsung straight away if there wasn't the problem; that is Dad bought it off ebay. I'll see what I can do about it. My other one better not die. There are drugs that you can take for that, though unless you're a frequent traveler and sufferer, I doubt it's worth it. But yeah, like Python said, screwed up bio-clock sucks. You either have to oversleep or undersleep to fix it, and either way makes you feel shit.

i was thinking of making a thread for this but decided to just put it in my favorite thread.
I went to deposit my stimulus check yesterday afternoon at the bank. This guy had just got there before me, did not hold the door for me even though i was just behind him.. whatever. So i fill out my deposit slip and notice this guy (kinda big, 6ft / 250 - black wearing wife-beater) is just kind of looking around, then walks out... i goto the door and look and his car is gone and i was thinking, what was he doing? is he going to rob the bank or something?
ok. get back in line and not more then 10-15 seconds later i hear somebody come in and kindof turn around to see 2 black guys in hoodies pulling bandannas over their faces, one of them has a gun he is pointing at people and they tell everybody to get on the floor.... so i did of course. omfg.
I could make this a few pages but I wont. The 2 robbers end up only stealing this poor customers $140 which the bank said was of course his... so he is the only one who got robbed, the bank lost nothing. I was then held hostage for about hour and a half by police and then was able to leave after the FBI guy asked me questions.
risking 10-20 + years in prison for $140 is.... well, its insane. and if there were 3 of them that means splitting that 3 ways... get a fu*(#*%ing job.... jesus.

I fucking hate pants.
To be more precise, i hate the current fashion trend in jeans. I was at the mall with a friend today and saw this nice pair of white (with a very light hint of blue) jeans. i tried on 32/34 (waist/length) and it was as always, tight around the thighs, but perfect around the waist. Apparently guys nowadays like to have jeans which tape your crotch to your leg...its fucking uncomfortable. I decided to buy it, one size bigger (34/34)...i come home and try them on, and it turns out they're even tighter. WTF?!? how is that even possible.
I very rarely go shopping, and when i do i hardly ever find pants i like, particularly jeans.....so i was rather pissed that the one pair i liked was so fucked up. I dont wanna buy something 4 sizes bigger just to be able to wear it and have 4 inches of slack around the waist. Now i have to go return them, which i hate to do,

I would never do something like that to other people. When I'm talking to other Chinese people while non-Mandarin speakers are around, I never speak Mandarin. If I absolutely need to, such as talking with my parents, I do it quietly. In fact, my parents are the only people I speak Mandarin with. I haven't spoken with my parents in over a week, which means I haven't spoken Mandarin in over a week. I don't care. I don't try to announce to the world that I can speak Mandarin and feel like hot shit because of it. Some of my friends don't even know that I can speak Mandarin. I can speak perfectly fine; it's just that I'd rather speak English in an English-speaking society. I'm also much better with English. Why? Because I use it.
On a related note - fobs on the bus. Every day, there are stupid Chinese dudes on the buses I ride who talk and laugh really really loud in Mandarin. WTF is their problem? It bothers me because it gives a bad image to Asian people, which happens to include me.

Japanese isn't the only language to use loan words in that way. Kinyarwanda is the only one that comes to mind at the moment, but I know there are more.
It's not totally uncommon for languages that don't allow codas (basically a consonant at the end of a syllable), to incorporate loan words by inserting vowels. I know we came across at least 3 in one of my classes last semester.

I'm freaking pissed at myself, because I made the mistake of plugging in 6 pretty high-end poweredge 1950's (dual quad-core xeon 3.16, 16gb ram, 4x146gb 10k sas 2.5inch disks) into a 20 amp fused busway access box. It was fine when they were just idle, but when I started initializing raids and installing systems, they suddenly just ... went dark.
Turns out, I was probably pulling in the neighborhood of 25 amps through it, and rather than the 20 amp fuse popping like it's supposed to, the whole frigging busway box seems to have died. This sets me back about a day in what I was doing, because now I've gotta get facilities to come in and put in a new box or two.
I think I'm going to run into this same situation again in the middle of next week, when we power on half a dozen disk shelves in a rack that's already got 3 more of those fairly beefy poweredges on one circuit and is pushing 10-15 amps to the cabinet next to it on the other one.
20 amps just ... isn't enough power.

No idea why the fuse lived and the box died. Maybe the electrician will be able to shed some light tomorrow...
As far as dell stuff goes ... given that we're about 75% a hardcore linux shop, and 25% windows.... who's better? I have some voice on the subject, but based on my experience with them and with other vendors in the same sector, I'm all for it being a dell shop. They make some nice server hardware for just absurdly cheap prices.

How does that compare to breaking $150 earphones? And now my Xbox is out of commission and I can't play GTA:IV for at least a week until my new power supply arrives in the mail. You think you've got it bad with a near abduction? Cry baby.

If they were $10 headphones it wouldn't matter, but we're talking about high-fidelity noise-canceling aural-nirvana headphones here. And a week without GTA:IV when you're deep in the midst of a possible mafia war between the Gambetti's and the Pegorinos is just torture. Pure torture.
At least your problem was only a near abduction. You survived it, next time you'll know better. We were all genuinely concerned. I promise.

Turns out, the box and the fuse were both fine. It was the power strip (also rated 20A) that died. And it died below 20A, because it's also got a 20A breaker built in that didn't trip.
Now I've got the power distributed a bit better (on two strips on two boxes, about evenly distributed). Had to install another box to make room, but no biggie there.
So yeah .... it was a mistake on my part to plug that much shit in to the same strip, but the strip was also poorly built and died before it should have. All very depressing.

Straight from my Facebook:
Today is the first time this term that I forgot to bring my house keys to work. It just so happens that when I got back from work, my room door was locked. I never lock my door, even when I'm gone, so somebody locked it from the inside. Who? I don't now. Somebody.
I tried calling my landlord but she had her phone turned off, so all I got was voice mail. The thing is, her voice mail is always full so that doesn't do me any good.
I walked to the dollar store in the nearby plaza and bought a screwdriver. Dollar store my ass. Nothing was a dollar in that store. The screwdriver costed me $2.50 + tax. Goddamn Koreans...
I unscrewed the fasteners that held the window screen on the outside of the house and pried the screen off with a spoon. Then I lifted my window open and climbed in using a kitchen stool. Luckily my room is on the ground floor and I didn't lock the window. My clothes got covered in dirt but that's okay. I'm back on the computer now and that's all that matters. In a brand new change of clothes, no less.

I just bought a jar of Skippy's Natural peanut butter, assuming it would have less saturated fat than the regular kind. Stupid assumption.
I get home and realize it's actually got more saturated fat because of the ingredient they use to keep it from separating. Waste of money and food right there. Shit.

We've seen your pictures, Xan. You're 21 and seem to be in great health. Why are you worrying about things like saturated fat? Wait until you're in your 30s and 40s. Then it's all anyone talks about, plus cholesterol, carbs, etc. It really does get tiresome listening to them.

I wouldn't wait till 30 my friend. Start as early as you can. What's more important is to do something that you find comfortable and will comply with. There's no use having a healthy eating plan if you don't follow it, so just choose something healthy, even if a little, and stick with it.
I've said this before, but it's worth saying again. Getting old sucks. Yes, it's a part of life, but if you can somewhat control the risks of whether you get old healthily, or get old falling apart, why not? Really, you can enjoy a healthy lifestyle as much as a not-so-healthy one all the same. It's a state of mind. You can't say the same about enjoying living with or without Rheumatoid Arthritis, for example.
A common argument is that a shorter, good quality life is better than a longer, drawn out living death. Whether that's true is up to you. Thing is, life doesn't go that way. There's no telling that a short life is a good quality one, and a long one is tormented by diseases. What's important is to look after yourself while you can, so however long you live, you live it to the max.

Sorry if I sounded anal about a few grams of saturated fat. I'm still going to eat the peanut butter, because I really don't like wasting food (and it's really not that much more fat). It's just I've been constructing a healthy diet for myself to follow in order to "clean bulk" (getting bigger without getting fatter) and keep doing stupid stuff without double checking first. It's frustrating.
Also Buffalobiian is right about everything he said. It's not so much worrying as it is making sure you're on the right track. I have a friend who worries that he's fat, when he's not and it's very annoying. I myself am making sure that I'm eating in a way that's conducive to my goals.

Today's bitch is about the feeling of helplessness brought on by the death of a friend. I received a call that the father (Mark) of a really good friend of mine was involved in a motorcycle accident and that his recovery outlook was grim. Now, I've had to deal with the passing of members of a friend's family before, but something about today was different.
Mark was a really influential person to me growing up. He was like a stand-in dad to me when my own father was battling meth addiction and was hardly around. However, over the last few years I began talking to him less and less as my free time diminished.
Anyway, today at around noon I received the call informing me of details his accident (He wasn't wearing a helmet and was exceeding the speed limit when a car pulled out in front of him) and the less than optimistic description of his chance to recover (His stepbrother's description was something to the effect of "his head was so swollen it was comparable to the size of the 19" tv in the hospital room").
For a few hours I sat here thinking, "Holy hell, I just talked to his dad yesterday for the first time in a few months", and eventually I was hit by the aforementioned feeling of helplessness. Eventually, I decided that sitting here fretting over it wouldn't make anything any better so I decided to be the optimist about it. However my optimism was taken away when I received a second call a few hours later with news of his passing explained to me in these exact words, "They're harvesting his organs"...
This got me thinking about how uselessly I sat around with my thumb in my ass hoping he would be alright, and I became overwhelmed with fury and hatred towards circumstances that are obviously out of my control. I guess it's a fairly common reaction, but it's still a terrible feeling that I just can't seem to shake... and I hate it.

Well there goes my rare good mood. I've been in that situation more times than I would like to remember and honestly I can't give you any advice other than try and hang in there and don't be too hard on yourself. I would recommend you talk to someone or go out and have some fun. Just do something to get your mind off of it for now until you learn to accept it and find your own way of dealing with it. You should just let go of the anger and doubts and the regrets because nothing good is going to come of it besides that awful helpless feeling is bad enough and even though it may seem like it, anger really doesn't fill the void. Anyway like I said I can't really give you any advice other trying to find a way to deal with it and eventually accept it, because helplessness is the human condition.

just didn't see/feel them. Some of the bites were while I was asleep. Most were probably while I was at my desk, but I didn't feel them until they already happened, and didn't realize it was a flea problem until about 3 days in to the attack.
We've also had a couple flies that we've had a lot of trouble getting rid of (they're smaller, more agile and a lot more responsive than the others), so until enough dots were there to connect, I didn't connect them.
On the bright side, it gave me a good reason to clean my room and the rest of the house and re-cable some stuff, so that's good at least...

it's like thousends of cars with only the driver, and they're all going to the same place. can't they just take three of thier co-workers and get the road clear? it's takes me 70 mintues in the morning (20 mintues spent just to get to the highway) and 25 mintues on the return. apparntly he's one year younger than me, and is in the army. doing a freakin' desk job (which leaves him enough time to go home and train in the gym three hours daily). the guy has a body mass of an APC (and is probably more durable) and he isn't in any special ops unit, or in any combat unit.

It pisses me off when people say diamond is the hardest material and you can't break it. They say you can't break a diamond with a steel hammer because diamond is harder than steel.
Basically, it really pisses me off when people throw around words that they don't know the meanings to. The "hardness" of a material has very little to do with whether or not it can be smashed to pieces by a hammer. You can easily smash a diamond to smithereens with a cheap hammer from the dollar store.
You can smash a diamond with a hammer, but you can't smash fingernail clippings to bits. Surely, diamond is harder than your fingernail.
There are many factors that determine how "breakable" a material is like malleability and brittleness. Just because diamond ranks #1 on the Mohs scale doesn't make it the most unbreakable solid.

Like today I got some mugi-cha and I tried to make a pitcher, but the instructions are all in Japanese! How much water should I add to how many packets? I don't know well enough how exactly this stuff is supposed to taste, so if I make it wrong now, how will I know?
The problem is that I want the Japanese to preserve their culture by not incorporating so much English into their language and to keep the gaijin guessing.
So it really is a paradoxical situation.
@BoC: count me boggled, I never questioned the fact that diamond was the "hardest" material in the world. I need to think outside the box more.

It is the hardest material. It's just that the word "hardness" in this context is often misinterpreted. Hardness is just one material property. There are also other properties that determine in which ways the material can be broken and how easily it can be broken.
Diamond is very easy to break. If you ever get diamond jewelry and someone makes a bet that they can break it, don't ever bet against them.

Yeah, it was an interesting fact that BoC brought up. Diamond's still the hardest material, but that just means if you rub things against diamond, diamond will scratch everything, and be scratched by nothing.

Here, importers usually attach English instructions via a sticker/label to make things more user friendly. But don't most Japanese products include enough schematic diagrams to make things easy? I remember building Tamiya model cars when I was a kid using only the diagrams on the the instructions. Easy enough after a few trial and error attempts...

The importers do add a label but only with the product name, ingredients, and nutrition information, but seldom do they translate the instructions for preparation. I usually try to decipher the instructions, but rarely have success. I always look for numbers too (to see what temp the water should be and how much I should use, etc), but those usually aren't on there either, which boggles my mind. You're right, a few attempts should yield something usable, but I'm unhappy that it might not be exactly (or even close to) what it should be.

Strange... Here they also include the procedures in the labels (though inaccurate). Maybe it depends on the country.

I guess American companies figure that the average person buying this stuff is probably from the country the product is from, so no need to translate for the few gaijin who might try it out. Like your typical American won't ever buy mugi-cha, but 95% of people who do are probably Japanese living in America. It's a crappy assumption on their part, but mostly valid.

It doesn't help that I look young, so they think they're helping me out by talking about life lessons that I already had and don't need any help with. Current bitching :
I was tasked to price out an additional ip address we need for a web site we're going to be hosting so i did and they told me I'd have to get 5 minimum and that it would be $10 a month... WOW, thats pretty cheap. I was expecting it to be alot more than $10.
but it could not be that easy... could it? of course not. got approval to buy them and then call today and apparently they have a policy about ip blocks and since we already have 5 we would have to get 13 total to get any more ips and in getting 13 more that means we'd have to change all of our current ip settings everywhere.
the 24 hour 'grace period' to make all of this happen seems very small and makes this into a huge pain in the ass.

Kraco

Buying the cheapest media is probably never the brightest of ideas. The bigger brands likely try to maintain some sort of consistent quality level but if you intend to buy a good chunk of decent disks for a decent price without wanting to pay extra for the name in the label, then the only wise choice is to buy only media based on the media code. I vaguely remember mentioning Video help (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia) here before, but let's say it again: It's a golden site for checking media codes before placing the order.
I have been lately buying consistently Verbatim media, whose media code I've checked every time before ordering (the web store I buy from lists media codes; I wouldn't buy from a shady shop that doesn't). It's good to keep in mind when shopping for these semi-quality brand media that the batch and the factory mean everything. Thus it's essential to check the media code and not just stare at the brand, because these companies get their media from factories here and there and then sell it under their name.

Can't believe I missed this... I did not get my wisdom teeth removed either, but I did get 4 molar removed once (during high school... hmm... back in 1997),so they could fix my teeth...
Two removed first week. Two removed the second week. The horror came when the third one was being removed and it cracked inside, leaving half of the root inside. The doctor had to work for an extra painful hour to fix it. I didn't care I was already 16... I was ready to cry damn it. It was freaking painful to be there, waiting for the damn root to be extracted... it did not compare to have the other 3 molar removed. Sad thing? When he finished taking it out... he still took out the last molar... OW!!! =(

I've thrown the wrapper away. All I can see on the discs are: RITEK INKJET WHITE 8X DVD-R 4.7GB/120MIN
Oh, and did I mention that all 50 discs didn't even come with a spindle? It was all wrapped up with a bottom and top, but no spindle.

I went to that site, and searched for the term RITEK. It turns out a heap of media from varying brands have that word in their media code....does that mean RITEK is a supplier or something?
Two removed first week. Two removed the second week.
I had all four molars removed in one go for my treatment. I didn't mind it too much since there wasn't any pain involved with the tooth extraction. What I really REALLY hate is that rack that they put inside your mouth to keep it open and suck saliva out. The tubes that do the sucking are always jammed up against the underside of my mouth near the tongue. I almost cried there. It's that annoying/painful.

I've used Ritek DVD-Rs before, but I didn't have any problems with them. Early on when DVD-Rs first came out they were one of the cheaper options compared to the big name brands that were charging too much per DVD. Nowadays I stick to the major brands like TDK, and Verbatim. I wish blank dual-layer DVDs would get cheaper.

I guess it also depends on your burner. TDK has a good name in my books.I was going to get them, but they weren't on sale, so I looked around for a day or two more. I've also had some Ritek DVDs in the past and the disks I got were very good ones. However, notice that the Ritek quality can vary from batch to batch, so check the media code, again, before getting any Ritek. Also, like you noticed yourself, Ritek media is sold under varying names.
The media code actually looks always something like this: "MCC 03RG20"; that is, it's not just the name of the manufactorer but also some code for the batch/factory. If you enter this particular code at Video help and scroll down to Verbatim, you will see what kind of media I bought last time.
Well, anyway, you can use also a program like Nero InfoTool to get the media code from a disk you have already bought. You can do that with those current disks of yours and see what kind of feedback they have got from people. If it's all good, then maybe it's just your drive that's unluckily incompatible with your disks.
Edit: Like Ani, I always burn at a lower speed than my drive / disk max. In fact, I use only 8x speed. My drive max is 20x, I think...

Whenever I leave a plastic bottle on my desk, the cleaning personnel decide to clean my desk and throw them away. Always without fail.
For the last 3 weeks I've left a pen standing up... balanced on the flat tip, and it hasn't fallen once, which signals they have not cleaned in 3 weeks.
Thus... if I wish for them to clean, I must get an empty plastic bottle first.

Is your office secured while other offices are not? We had that problem at my office since we had a lot of sensitive and expensive IT equipment unsecured, so we locked the office and the cleaning crew didn't have a key. We cleaned up the room ourselves as we could, but that meant no vacuuming or dusting for weeks at a time. I preferred it to thinking someone had been through my work area though.
