I gave my bank a ring the other day, and apparently the manager there was into the whole PS3 thing since he was a PSN regular. Supposedly we're alright since we never gave Sony our little secret 3-digit numbers on the back of our cards.

I'm still gonna replace my card soon though.

Sony was hacked twice.

Following up on this morning's news that Sony Online Entertainment servers were offline across the board, Sony Online Entertainment announced that it has lost 12,700 customer credit card numbers as the result of an attack, and roughly 24.6 million accounts may have been breached.Sony loses 12,700 credit card account numbers, 24.6 million accounts compromised (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/02/sony-hit-with-second-attack-loses-12-700-credit-card-nu/)

Anonymous hacked by... Anonymous? (http://crave.cnet.co.uk/software/anonymous-hacked-by-one-of-its-own-50003703/)

Infamous hacktivist group Anonymous has been hacked by one of its own. In a message posted to the AnonOps.in site, the group claimed a former member organised the attack, taking over its AnonOps.ru and .net communications sites and publishing names and IP addresses of users online.

After receiving media attention worldwide when Sony claimed it was unwittingly involved in hacking the PlayStation Network, it seems Anonymous now has its own crisis to deal with.

"We regret to inform you today that our network has been compromised by a former IRC-operator and fellow helper named 'Ryan'," the group claimed.

The hacker brigade strongly advised users to stay clear of the AnonOps network and added: "He decided that he didn't like the leaderless command structure that AnonOps Network Admins use. So he organised a coup d'etat."

After stealing the IP addresses of hundreds of the message board's users, the mysterious Ryan reportedly launched denial-of-service attacks against AnonOps.ru and AnonOps.net, the platforms that provide communications for the group. It is where hundreds of supporters have collaborated when they brought sites such as PayPal and Bank of America offline, and commanded the cyber attacks in support of WikiLeaks last year.

Anonymous is still under attack. Going to AnonOps.net diverts to a page with the title 'LOL ANONOPS DEAD' followed by some rather unpleasant language.

Despite repeatedly denying responsibility for the hack, Anonymous has been in the spotlight since the Chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment, Kazuo Hirai, wrote to US authorities suggesting the group played a role in Sony's massive data breach.

Is it fair to say what goes around comes around? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below

Sapphire
Fri, 06-10-2011, 03:40 PM
I don't blame her. A lot of people start to confuse crippled people with mentally retarded people and won't step near them, stigmatizing any notion that they might have a sex drive. Crippled people have minds as capable as the rest of us, so it must piss them off.

David75
Fri, 06-10-2011, 04:03 PM
Another reason is people fear the idea of having sex with crippled people. There's the social image, personal image, cultural image etc...
They might also fear legal troubles where the crippled person consent is not considered valid...

Then there's the fact that our unconscious tends to tell us to avoid sex relations with people seen as ill or with an troubles that would affect procreation.

And let's face it, we also need to like how the people we date look like.

Some people can overcome all of this, this just isn't the norm and it's not easy to have them meet with the ones in need and they are compatible.

I am curious about that as well. But I do think that it is a good thing. Speeds in the US are ridiculously slow and expensive. I pay like 60$ for 10MB/2MB, but I never get speeds anywhere near that.

David75
Tue, 06-21-2011, 09:50 AM
Problem with fiber is that it's not that widespread and as it costs a lot to deploy, you have to be in areas with lots of people to have the luck of finding a fibered place.

In Paris I can have access to 100mb/50mb fiber for 38€/month. For the same price I get 100mb/10mb cable speeds in Versailles since the city has no fiber access yet.
My real speed in Versailles is around 65mb down, and goes down to 40-45mb which is not bad considering that ADSL for the same prices is 5Mb on my phone line...

I might go fiber in Paris, will be more practical to access my NAS there and redirect some tv channels I do not have access to in Versailles thanks to the nice upload speeds.

And here we face a great threat to high speed internet: video streams that will probably become the norm. Be it a HD camera feed,TV channel redirection etc... creating large amounts of bandwidth to tranfer from many points to many other ones.

We're not there yet, but I'm sure it will be very quick to happen.

The parts with him whacking the punching bag felt like some sort of performance art.

I think he's trying to say something about the state of violence in the modern world and how easy it appears to cover our eyes by shielding ourselves and withdrawing into our umbrellas. A false sense of safety from the rains of injustice in the world.

Edit: Or perhaps because the man is wearing a fine suit it's a commentary on classism. The upper-class gentleman prefers to stand on the shoulders of the working and middle classes (the chair scene) all the while supported by his own economic safety net. The watermelon scenes likewise display the power of the wealthy to control and destroy the food supply of the working man.

The punching bag scenes are separated and distinct because of the handles of the umbrella. This is done to demonstrate that whether with a hooked (crooked) or straight handle, the upper class has the power to control and dominate. This implies that the problem is systemic, rather than individual. Whether by crooked or honorable means, there can be no true equality or harmony between the wealthy and the poor.

See, either of those two alternatives would really make it a dedicated weapon as seen by the general public, and will probably get you arrested in any developed country with decent laws. The umbrella linked is just that - a resilient as fuck umbrella.

Kinda like steel-capped boots compared to shoes with hidden blades.

LOL, so Japan goes 180 on food etiquette and decides that playing with your food is alright. Not that I mind, really.

This reminds me of that bio experiment we did in uni, which required a nerve from a frog's leg. Naturally, we were required to extract that ourselves.

The electricity from my scalpel kept making the leg move. It wasn't the (not so) subtle twitching in that video though, more like irregular violent kicks as I tried to cut the nerve from the leg. I ended up laughing too hard to continue, so had another team member do it.

We needed the nerve intact, after all.

Considering electronic circuit (ink) printing is still technology under development and not yet in much industrial use, a cardboard box with Wi-Fi + 3G connectivity and 32GB of memory might be worth some money. Not to mention the optical illusion that makes a black box look white in photographs. That could be worth studying as well.

Seriously, the Feminist inside me just had an aneurism.

I'm more inclined to agree with the initial video than the majority of the responses. The responses are pissed off women going, "why would you go and let your man do whatever he wants?". Basically, they're saying that their boyfriend needs a leash put on him, or he'll go off and cheat if he's not watched. Obviously this means they are dating untrustworthy people who they probably shouldn't be dating in the first place. They don't seem to realize this. (They're also more likely to be naggers if they're inclined to believe that their boyfriend will cheat on them by default if left alone.)

There was one opposition video that was quite good though:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Alo5AB1mxIA

The second girl in the video (at 3:00) actually responded logically, instead of sounding like an extremist/control freak. The others above were the typical crazy responses, though.

If you insist so, then "her point" was never clear. That much is evident from all the differing opinions on what she "meant". The only way one could say that "sucking dick" definitely meant "be accommodating towards" is if that phrase is common slang.

And if her point was never so much about sucking dick, then she shouldn't have mentioned it in the first place. If she didn't mean it, it's her fault for saying something she didn't mean.

I concur. The jist of the original video seemed to focus on the aspect of letting the guy do his own thing and be accommodating to him. I myself find that it's extremely annoying when a girl openly expresses disinterest in everything you do or like, and tries to create your schedule around things she wants to do. My personal space is always very important to me, as is trust.

if your man doesn't tell you where he's going when you ask him, he's up to some shit. That's pretty distrustful.

If you avoid answering an innocent question like "where are you off to?" that can be suspicious. But of course the question can seem invasive if you are someone like me who likes freedom and going where I want when I want, without my cell phone. To which DS wrote:

Her point was never so much about "sucking dick" in the first place; you are listening as selective as dem bitches mayne ;P.

And the conversation that resulted was as follows:

If you insist so, then "her point" was never clear. That much is evident from all the differing opinions on what she "meant". The only way one could say that "sucking dick" definitely meant "be accommodating towards" is if that phrase is common slang. Oh god, selective listening 2.0; her point was about bitches being annoying and controlling.

The next immediate post was made by you D.Rage, so I trust I don't need to repost that.

Going back to my motivation behind my responses:

1) My first response was in regards to the man in the youtube video talking about how he thought "sucking dick" didn't literally mean the act of putting a penis in your mouth and sucking it. My response commented that it is what the girl herself meant when she said talks about sucking dick, not how he or other people think it's a stand-in for something else.

2) My Second (and perhaps the following) comments were in response to DS's comment that it's "irrelevant", that it's " selective listening", because "her point was about bitches being annoying and controlling"

I believe the meaning of "selective listening" is something along the lines of "to (either voluntarily or involuntarily) choose to listen to various sections of a speech or conversation rather than digesting it as a whole". Feel free to correct or challenge that.

To say a certain section, part or phrase of the girl's speech was "irrelevant" because "her point was about bitches being annoying and controlling" - and then calling others out for "selectively listening" - Responding to that was the motivation behind my (latest) comments.

I wrote a dissertation to explain the meaning and motivations behind my posts - and to clarify that I wasn't fixated on blow jobs. The dissertation is about the integrity and reasoning behind my posting - not so much the girl and her vid.

Besides, the post is only 257 words minus quotes. The quotes were mostly there to explain how the conversation came about - and I admit that shouldn't have to be done because it's assumed that readers can read.

True, but to immediately think he's gonna cheat, only shows distrust in a relationship. I mean sure if there are several reasons more to justify that thought (things haven't been going well lately or something similar to cheating happened before etc.) then it's just being cautious but if there are none, you're being paranoid.

She bitches about it.
I wish I didn't want to surprise her in the first place :D

Regarding the very first video, well, bitch/bitches/cock/suck/fuck/fucking do come to often in her speech. I can't tell she's either right or wrong. I guess she does what she feels works for her, but maybe shouldn't try to push that on every other girls.
She should tone down a little, after all sex is all about fun and shouldn't be the only basis for a relationship, even if it is indeed important.
Same goes with cooking or bitching or having rather liberal ways of dealing with your couple. What matters in the end is that both people in a couple feel they do live far better/happier together than alone. When living your couple becomes a hassle for long periods of time, or there are aggravating facts, it's indeed better to move on and break free.
And don't forget that long time couples, in the end, don't even need sex to keep living together. They do not even need cooking or other material elements. They just need one another to live better.

Think about it, at some point, love is the desire to live together, feeling better when you do so.

A Confused Foreigner's Guide: Japanese VS Western Gaming (http://games.on.net/article/13660/A_Confused_Foreigners_Guide_Japanese_VS_Western_Ga ming)

Not something we didn't already have an idea of, if not outright know. given the nature of our forum - but still interesting to see something "official" written up about it.

I'm a bit of a mixed bag. I love FPS, but sandbox Western RPGs haven't really taken a foothold as a favourite genre of mine. I prefer games that tell me what to do rather than let me choose.. since I end up trying to figure out the best way or order to do everything - and then end up losing interest from simply completing this off the bounty board.

Even if they hold little interest in PC gaming, PCs are as popular over there as in any developed country. I guess they simply don't play games on their PCs, which is probably due to the inability of the Japanese industry to produce games for PC - because of fear of piracy? Who knows?

One thing that left me wondering about the article was how it said many Western games get a classification similar to adult games (forbidden from under 18 years, I reckon) and thus major retailers don't carry them. Getting that classication in itself is perfectly natural, since having a look at your game shelf reveals games like Witcher, Dragon Age, Fallout, etc are all for adults only. However, for shops not to sell them (or hypothetical similar Japanese games, if nobody buys Western games) because of that is incredibly strange when you also say adults are used to gaming to pass time during long commutes. So, despite gaming a lot, adults in Japan are restricted to games meant for kids? Strange place indeed.

I think that might just be a vicious cycle. As things currently are, Japanese gaming has been highly focused on consoles, with the PC market left pretty much for dating sims only. Given that the consumers haven't already been in a habit of keeping their PCs in good shape for the more demanding westers shooters/rpgs, the risks in putting out a hardware-demanding, good PC game and hope that consumers would take it up would be too great.

It's not that X-rated games aren't available, it's that major retailers don't have them. Pretty much you have the general gaming stores that don't want anything to do with eroge (at least in their main levels), and then you have some basement store that's dedicated to eroge. (Having seen it personally, they really are dedicated - and only to eroge).

So that kind of leaves our violence-rated games with no takers. I doubt digital content delivery like Steam has much footing there, if at all.

Kraco
Mon, 09-12-2011, 02:53 AM
You rarely see porn games anywhere over here. The only places I've personally witnessed have been small stores selling only movies and games (and maybe erotic shops, but I'm not in a habit of visiting those), and naturally some web stores. However, such games still share the exact same classification with violent games, which is 18 in Europe, and there's no self-respecting business that wouldn't sell the common FPS or RPG games only meant for adults. So, to make the point clear, games meant for adults only is a different thing than adult games.

Despite saying that, philosophically I do recognize that brutally killing people in games should actually be worse than having sex in games. Whether avoiding them both is the correct answer, is another question, though.

That guy was an idiot. While I'm opposed to the sort of system that can summarily deprive you of all your purchases (which is why I only buy hard copies of games), it's still childish to afterwards go and pester them about it. Nobody likes dickheads that waste people's time asking questions they already know the answers to. Sounds like a lousy loser and nothing else.

Software licenses are an exceedingly common thing in the business. Stereotypically you buy a copy of a game (or an audio CD or a movie), but you buy a license for a number of installations of a non-game software. Usually one if you are a homeuser, but sometimes more, like the three-packs of MS Office they sell these days. It doesn't then matter how you acquired the binary of the software as long as you have enough licenses. If they switched to licenses with the fully digital game distribution, it's nothing to be surprised about.

If there's something to be surprised about, it's that there are people who would use it yet still risk pirating knowing they could lose everything. But then again, foolishness is the most rapidly replenishing renewable natural resource.

I always thought personality tests were pretty dull and axiomatic, but this one certainly opened my eyes. The added benefit of doing these tests also give insight on how much synergy one may have with the other type dynamics.

Five years ago I did this test, I got:

ESTJ (67%) - Management, Physician, Law, Education
ISTJ (33%) - Engineering, Physician, Law, Military Training

Today I got ISTP - Law, Computer Programming, Technology Education

Interestingly all my career paths that I had considered were in the bunch and have been rather consistent.

I'm rather skeptical of these internet results though, as someone above has mentioned, since a lot of my responses contradicted each other. My strength of preference for Sensing (vs Intuitive) and Perceiving (vs Judging) were only 1% and 11% respectively. Back in the past, all parameters were really clear-cut except for Extrovert/Introvert.

A lot of the E/I questions had me thinking too, since I find myself asking whether they mean "DO I have trouble speaking to people etc", or "do I HAVE TROUBLE speaking to people". I can be as open and as chatty as anybody in a customer service role, but it doesn't necessarily mean I like their company or that I really feel like talking to them even though I CAN. At the same time though, I can't have an office job where I talk to nobody.

One thing that's noticeably changed between the years is that "how tidy is your desk" has changed from Very Tidy to Untidy. Current Situation vs Future Developments stumped me up since that depends both on the situation, and whether or not I give a shit.

edit: according to En's first "description" link, none of my previous ISTJ or ESTJ strike a hammer, but this part on ISTP is spot on:

"Analyze what makes things work and readily get through large amounts of data to isolate the core of practical problems. Interested in cause and effect, organize facts using logical principles, value efficiency."

edit2: found my favourite description site that I used years ago. Click the personalities at the top for a nice full-page description.

The closet was a metaphor for "private".

Kraco
Thu, 09-22-2011, 01:20 AM
I believe the logic in not keeping it private is to saturate the general populace with homosexual news until they cease to pay attention - at which point it has become so commonplace nobody cares anymore. Which, of course, would be the ideal situation for the homosexuals as most of them want to be recognized as normal people, not something worth special treatment.

Although probably not all of them think so far and simply want to raise the general awareness or want to appear in the news and other media (like many people do out of vanity and pride).

Buffalobiian
Thu, 09-22-2011, 07:43 AM
I can't speak for anybody gay, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're just trying to use their freedom of expression that's been suppressed for so long. You see fellow peers around you being able to get it off their chest, which inspired you to do it, and so you do the same... I dunno.. purely guessing here..

You could also say that "breakups" should be something kept private between two people and not be anybody else's business, but people youtube that shit all the time, amongst other (and a lot of the time, stupid) things.

Which reminds me, product reviews that simply unbox the item. What's the fucking point?*

The dude practiced hunting during the peace time, like great many other farmers, so when the war struck, he simply switched from hunting animals to hunting enemies. From a practical point of view not so different aside from the animals not shooting back. But yeah, fighting against absolutely superior numbers produces that kind of stories. The Russians threw ten times more men to the grinder that Finland could.

Yep, some of those 2D pics just didn't compare to their 3D counterparts, but the 2D > 3D rule does hold most of the time.

This is the line of thinking of anti-OWS people.

"Heh, I don't have it so rough because I actually work. Lazy fucking poor people."

It's really a failure to understand the underlying grievances of the movement in the first place.

I cant find sense to that rant to be anti-OWS. He denies both living with credit and excess consumption wich are the basic pilars of modern economies thus making him the worst kind of enemy of WS. And he is totally part of the 99% (lower end) but he thinks he is better cause he isnt indebted, wich is good but serves no purpose if things dont change.

Anyways if that guy thinks that is cool to have to work 30+ hours a week for minimum wage + plus study a carreer + scholaships just to get graduated in a public unversity, live rented in a small apt and dont have almost anything to spent saving a few bucks that in the last few years devaluated heavily welcome to the sanitarium.

I am guessing that person is fine with living in austerity, but they are indeed part of the 99% of the lower economic spectrum (unless they saved millions of dollars) if they are making minimum wage. And hurrah for them, but "working your ass off" doesn't always pay off. Wages have been flat in the US for decades, while the cost of living keeps rising. Basically, the deck is stacked against most people, which is not...I hate to say fair, but yea, it is pretty unfair. Add to that all the cheating (tax evasion, buying politicians, irresponsible banking regulation and lack thereof), and I think people have a right to be upset.
