Those are common gift sets here in Asia I would figure. I see them, as well as Transformers, made in this manner quite a fair bit.

"When he admitted to watching human porn at a panel discussion in Tokyo in 2005, several hundred hard-core 2-D lovers in the audience booed with shock that their dear leader had nostalgia for the 3-D world. "
Heh. Clearly the author was less of a 2-D lover than his fans.
I'm not opposed to this kind of thing (the topic, in general). It's just a way out for people, and this article suggests such activity can potentially save them from suicide (and continue to help the rest of us pay tax).

Some wacko Christian comics warning about the dangers of homosexuality, rock music, evolution, etc. They'd be so funny if they weren't written by someone who is actively making the world a worse place.
"Evolution is basically a racist concept."
"No, they were not born that way, so homosexuality does not qualify as a civil rights discrimination issue."

I always hate the drawn out tangent stories he writes. It barely ever elicits half the payoff in the response as the effort put in reading his fiction in the first place. Would probably be much funnier if he just stuck to the poster shots. In his defense, though, its pretty demeaning to have a professional client ask you to make a missing cat poster for her as a free service because she's incapable of placing text on a page and taping a photo to it.

Some comments:
All my life, I've heard such great things about this book. But whenever I started to read it, it was all "so-and-so begat hisself, and then he begat whatsisname". Sure there was some nudity at the beginning, but they cover up soon enough and start begatting (go figure).
But now, I think I might try it again. After all, I hear this one has pictures of my favorite drivers and a few interesting pages from them scattered amongst the "thou-shalt-nots" and the begats.
So, I figure I'll at least read it like a magazine, flipping through until I get to full-color pages with pictures of folks I know saying things I already agree with.
Those dang carpetbagging sheriffs kept pullin me over and givin me DUIs. Then my sister (cousin) gave me one these for my glove box. I ain't been pulled over yet that I can remember. I'm so glad to be back in the Lord's good graces.

That's indeed badass; 25M symmetric. I've always had a symmetric connection and I quite like it. Although mine is considerably slower than that and my ISP has little intrest in developing anything.

I'd need to move to a new place to get FTTH. One provider here offers 100Mbps/50Mbps for 30€/month.
Thing is, not many areas are covered yet.
For your average joe, if you have a very short copper line, you can top 28mbps down.
But reality kicks in and I'm only at 10Mbps/1Mbps, long line...
FTTH started around 2002/3 in Tokyo, with 100Mbps symetrical, didn't it?
Maybe around the same time in Korea, or even before.
I remember at the time having 512Kbps ADSL and for 1.5 times the price of Japanese FTTH... And I was among those having fast internet access, for France that is...
Well, I might someday have a quicker access with my mobile data plan, than with my ADSL line at home. Only thing is that home is totally uncapped...

I was watching The Tyra Banks show today, and they did an episode (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGvszk8L4wM&feature=channel) about the Tape Worm diet.
A guy who sells tapeworms on the black market went was on that show, and it was very easy to find his website (http://www.tapewormdiet.net/). He claims that it's for autoimmune disorders, not weight loss... but yeah, look at the site name. He also has another site (http://wormtherapy.com/) that you go to for the treatment (in Mexico).
In order to obtain the tapeworms, he goes to villages in places like Africa, looks in poo, infects some cows with the worm eggs, then slaughters the cow and harvests the cysts for human consumption. Ew.
Something creepy that made me chuckle is that they warned against taking cocaine and having tapeworms at the same time (http://wormtherapy.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=19). It's an "unacceptable risk" to the tapeworm... Does this also mean taking cocaine is a cheap way to get rid of tapeworms? Hmm...

Is cocaine cheap? There's something wrong with the situation if an illegal narcotic is cheaper medication for tapeworms than the proper alternative from a pharmacist.

I loved the "All Natural" comments. It's the biggest slap in the face for all the contemporary natural remedies fad.
For anyone still interested in this diet, just letting you know that cysts can travel to other parts of your body (as they said). Liver infestation is the most common. Some worms (not tapeworms though I don't think) can infest the brain.

Most of the time I have contempt for how sensationalist talk shows are, but I think this episode hit the mark on how disgusting some fad diets can be. And how stupid some people can be. I seriously wanted to throw up at some parts of this lol.
I also doubt those girls have a willpower/energy disorder, they freely admit they love eating.
What they don't seem to understand is they'll just gain the weight right back when they get rid of the worm (Unless it kills them first). But if they exercise, their metabolism will increase... *gripe*

BTW, I classify people who absorbs their food really well as an evolved being. If you can eat a small portion and then absorb, metabolize it at 100% efficiency, you can save a lot of food. I just want to say these people are amazing biological samples but at the same time technically a subset of defective samples.
I contest that, the Matrix, uses these biological samples as the battery cells. Really, you dont have to move if you dont wanna, just dont take the red pill.

I know if like 40% of my friends saw what people said about that woman, they would be furious. I mean, it is what it is; while some of the things she did seemed a bit...unsanitary, I don't begrudge her having a good time as long as nobody is hurt (although drunken blackout sex is not really...on the up and up). I just hope that she practices safe sex.
On a personal note, hooking up with people minutes apart...well, I have castigated friends about doing that, as it is kinda weird in my book, but then again, I am somewhat prudish (apparently).

Is there a way to see your own overall fame? cause I dunno what mine is, but some of these dudes have like 30k+ fame and I'm like what? I'm assuming that that total fame it shows you when you die contributes to your overall fame.. like, each cahracter's fame stacks on each other. Cause otherwise, 30k+ is insane.. I mean, considering I get about 100-200 each time, it's bad enough for that 30k to have been stacked...

Has anyone else ever heard of flour pronounced floor?
First I've heard of it.
I'm pretty certain that I would mix the two pronounciation, if I ever had noticed a difference anyway :D
The marvels of not being from the culture/language... or sometimes living in a place where strange language habits appear we don't know why/how.
For example, my wife's familly have some words with strange form/pronounciation found nowhere else in France or even the same village/region... at least to my knowledge.
I guess that in some cases, it comes from either a bad learning from a young age, some dislexia or earing process trouble... and at times just a pronounciation process trouble too.
Sometimes the mistake is transmitted in the familly and might even spread quite far in the population, but we're getting far from the initial example here.
I'm stretching thing a bit here, maybe it's only a once in a while mistake, switching words. You think something and end up voicing something else, sometimes near in meaning or an homonym, or sometimes totally unrelated to what should be voiced.

I dunno, I was thinking that the pronunciation as "floor" seemed pretty blatantly fake and was a good tell that it was a troll. Same with the Al Gore line and all the capitalist talk. At first I was pretty sure it was a troll, and I mean, the end of the series of videos is definitely a deliberately comical one.. So I'm pretty torn on if it's a troll or not. I mean, I watched is "the truth about me" videos or whatever, and his rambling and perception did make him seem like it was all real, and he's just an autistic dude. But seriously, that video could easily have been a scripted "explanation." Like, seriously, dude starts a fire yet he keeps his camera filming, and continues to talk about his personality and acting. It was totally fake..
The amount of junk and clutter seems like a strong point against it being a troll. I mean, at first I thought he simply piled everything up onto his counter top and whatnot. But that seems like so much set up, and with the general filth I dunno if it's really possible.
I think in the end, I would definitely say he's is a troll. Fake all the way. But, entertaining.

Hilarious book review (http://www.exile.ru/articles/detail.php?ARTICLE_ID=6948&IBLOCK_ID=35&PAGE=1)
The book A Million Little Pieces is reviewed. Even if you haven't read it (I haven't), it's still amazing.
And I mean detailed. It takes Leonard and his new son three pages just to get out to the limo. And there, of course, there must be another maudlin goodbye, stretched to absurd length. Anyone else would've said, "We hugged and said goodbye," but Frey takes you through every step of the process, padding his bathos as if explaining "hug" to a Martian: "Leonard steps forward. He puts his arms around me and he hugs me. I put my arms around him and I hug him. He lets go and he steps away and he looks in my eyes and he speaks."
And even after the blow-by-blow account of the big hug, it's not over, because of course there must be another macho-yet-tearful farewell: "[Leonard]: 'Be strong. Live honorably and with dignity....'
Frey and his tough-guy friends spend more time weeping and hugging than the runners-up in a Miss America competition.

“The Two Types of Anime Otaku” according to 2ch (sankaku link) (http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2010/01/16/the-two-types-of-anime-otaku/)
edit: for the convenience of those at work/school, here's a cut/paste of the article.
I don't give the grouping of A and B much merit since there are plenty of cross-over personalities on this very forum already (in fact, from those I'm familiar with, I'd say very few actually fit well in either categories), but the sub-options at least give a bit of food for thought.
----------------------------
“The Two Types of Anime Otaku”
2ch believes it has successfully divided anime otaku into two distinct types:
Type A:
- A person who simply enjoys “anime.”
- Is proud of Japan’s anime.
- Evaluates anime based on direction, voice acting, art, etc.
- Hates shallow anime with no real content.
- Story emphasis >>>>> Moe anime.
- A recent example would Higashi no Eden. Fans of anime like Lain or Ghost in the Shell would probably be this kind.
Type B:
- A person who simply enjoys “characters.”
- Will watch an anime if it includes cute or beautiful characters.
- Doesn’t care if story is awful, as long as the characters are of interest.
- Evaluates anime based on which seiyuu are in it and what the characters look like.
- Loves moe elements. Doesn’t like complex anime.
- The otaku the media picks up on are usually this kind.
- Doesn’t know that much about anime and so is often criticised as by Type A otaku.
- However, they make much better customers than the more discerning Type A otaku.
- Recently there has been a huge increase in anime targeted at Type B otaku.
- People who like K-ON!, Queen’s Blade, Strike Witches and so on would be in this class.
In fairness “Type A” seems more a description of anime “fans” than anime “otaku,” as most of the irrational and obsessive characteristics generally associated with otaku seem to be absent; on the other hand, it is in the hearts of “Type B” otaku that the seeds of the moe boom were sown…
Anime lovers will inevitably have to ask “Which type am I?”

man, i never liked that type a/b nonsense. Just, the category definitions and differences seem so ridiculous.
"simply enjoys anime" then "hates shallow anime". Maybe it's just me, but simply enjoying anime means you don't make a big deal out of story and characters and animation and stuff. To "simply enjoy" something is the opposite of critiquing it's story, or caring if it's "moe" or not.
Is proud of japans anime? what does that even mean? I think what "type A" is supposed to be is simply people who enjoy watching it for the story or writing. The stereotypical "anti-moe" fans.
And though I think type B is a bit better defined, it still seems shaky. Like, "doesn't know much about anime"? in what way?
And to put the fans of K-ON and Queens Blade in the same classification seems pretty ridiculous.
These classifications seem too limiting and ill-defined. But honestly, I just have a problem with "anime fandom" in general :\
Kraco
Thu, 01-06-2011, 03:28 AM
Yeah, I didn't find those two categories too intelligent back when the article was posted. I also have to agree, to a degree, with Panda about the contradiction in the first category. "A person who simply enjoys anime." belongs to the definition of an anime fan, not an otaku. Somebody who simply enjoys something doesn't go out of his way to methodically hate some detail about it.
Still, it's good to remember that the more you like any aspect of a show, the more you will enjoy it, be it a style, a character, or anything else. Thus being able to make a big deal out of them is a good thing. You get more out of the time invested than somebody who stoically watches through the whole thing without as much as raising an eyebrow. But I don't necessarily see this as an otaku exclusive trait, nor does it need to be so negative that it makes you hate shows that lack the particular traits you normally enjoy the most.

While I've enjoyed anime of both types, I'd say I tend to get attached more to the type B anime. I've always found that character-centric stories are more appealing than story-centric characters. I felt the same way about American TV shows and movies.
Although the only anime I still actually watch is One Piece...

In that particular case, it is in fact not really confortable to lie down for a long time and I'm almost certain those ladies are either forced or enticed into doing that. That would then be a no.
