Yeah wrong thread but I'll just respond to this one post. You missed my point with the references. My point was exactly that Tom Cruise and Wesley Snipes do not represent their particular ethnicity at all. No one looks at them and thinks that every white guy is a crazy scientologist or that every black guy is going to go to jail for not paying taxes. Jackie Chan plays a role, that is it. Speaking of commercials, what about Chuck Norris' WoW commercials, or Mr T. That is Chan's character, it is what he is known for and it is what he has made a career doing.


Again my point was that you seem rather oblivious to the whole race issue and what sets people off which is the very reason Y says you're a racist but hey another thread another day.

Hehe yea i didn't know either. Someone said years ago that the reason it was called Black Friday was because there was so many people getting hurt or even killed during the shopping. I remember reading about someone getting trampled to death and many injured that BF that was then, so i just assumed that was it and never gave it a second thought. But your reason is much more believable.

Thing is, even before the advent of BF, companies did great during the holiday shopping season leading up to Christmas. With all the deals on BF through cyber-Monday now, they're making money on volume, but less money than they could on markup.

I make it a point to never pay full retail price for anything but I also prefer stress-free shopping experiencing. Most people at Costco are bad enough, and even then I've left quickly because I was too disgusted with their behaviour and because I get anxiety from overcrowded places.

I don't know what it's about. I don't even know what a pansexual is (is it something that considers all sexuality, including for example bestiality, ok?). I had a professor who once made a simple mistake while solving an equation and he had a doctorate in math which he damn well deserved. It was a curious thing since his eventual solution to the equation he was working on was correct. Anyway I pointed out his mistake since I seem to have been the only one to notice it and he simply looked at the board and then corrected his mistake. As it turns out he had already solved the equation in his head, thus the correct solution, and was simply not paying attention to what he was writing. This though, is definitely not the same.

You always perform multiple/divide before you do plus/minus, just like you would do powers. It's how mathematics is done.

Brackets would only be needed if you wanted to change that order.

2x18+1 = 36+1 = 37

If you wanted to add 1 first, you must use brackets. ie 2x(18+1)

I know, but as I said I would read it as 2x19. It is a curious quirk of mine. If I were solving the problem in my head I wouldn't have the problem but reading it. I would just read it as 2x19. Ha, this is funny that is an idiosyncrasy I have not had to explain since elementary school, really. No worries Buff I can do math, my mother wanted me to be a math major after all but I had other ideas.

. How you read it is always relevant just ask any dyslexic kid. As for math being absolute, that is quite an interesting statement. I had one friend who is a physicist who could argue that with you and another who fancies himself a philosopher who would but as I am neither of those two and you are you, I won't. Point conceded.

I'm inclined to believe that the equation isn't finished otherwise, since that's a relatively large mistake to have posted on a school website. Or rather, it's possible that the teacher could have made the mistake, but you'd think the photo would have been reviewed before going up.

There could be a number of things that make that picture not stupid or funny. First off, if he lifted the chalk from the board to write something else, he could have transiently changed his grip on the chalk as he moved it over to write something else. Or, maybe he does use that grip to write. I see no reason why he can't or why it's particularly difficult. I don't hold chalk or write on a vertical surface the same way I hold a pen or write sitting at a desk. Also, the area where the equal sign is looks as if something else was written there before he erased and replaced it with an equal sign, further suggesting that he's just not done.

Of course, he could have also fucked up, but it's not clear enough that he did for that pic to be funny.

its probably written in a different numeral system, you can tell by the way the he "explains" the number 237 in decimal

2x10^2 + 3x10^1 + 7x10^0 = 237

edit: seems to be nonary - if you rewrite it into the decimal system it becomes

37 -> 3x9^1+7x9^0 = 34
2x18 -> 2x (1x9^1 + 8x9^0) = 34

b. how do you determinate how many times do you bring something up in powers? is it always going from the largest to the smallest?

base2 = 0, 1
base3 = 0,1,2
.....
base9 = 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
base10 = 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9

so "9" in decimal becomes 10 in base 9

and "3" in decimal becomes 11 in base 2
while "4" in decimal becomes 100 in base 2
and "5" in decimal becomes 101 in base 2 <--- 1x2^2 + 0x2^1 + 1x2^0 = 5

You would be appalled out how many stunningly dim people get to go to university in the US. Remedial math classes do in fact cover fractions (which I learned in 2nd grade math). These people go on to become elementary school teachers, English majors, and even Business majors.

I've heard stories of students (business majors) fervently arguing that an infinite slope can't possibly exist on a graph. I've heard boyfriends discuss their girlfriend's (Education major) remedial math classes struggling with word problems involving probability.

It doesn't end with math either. I've had classes with English and Philosophy majors who can't write a coherent five paragraph essay.

Somehow these people graduate and get decent jobs thanks to all the connections they made when they were partying every Thursday night through Monday night.

2x18 in base-9 is 34 if we translate it back to base-10 ----- (2*9^0 = 2) * ( 1*9^1+8*9^0 = 17) = 34
and 37 in base-9 is also 34 if we translate it back to base-10 ----- (3*9^1 + 7*9^0 = 34)

so 2x18=37, both written in base-9, is correct

Yeah, it's been a big deal in the US for the last year or so whether or not the Boy Scouts would allow openly gay kids to join them. They fought it for a while, then decided to allow them, hence this commemorative badge. And yes, 10 year old kids know if they are gay or straight, besides the fact that Boy Scouts can be between 10 and 17 years old.

Funny though that openly gay adults cannot join as leaders, as if they're all sexual deviants who can't control themselves around young boys or something.

Apparently, there are kids as young as five who know about their gender issues ("the new normal" has an example of that). I also read sometimes in the papers about kids (ten years old) who's parents move around so that they can be in a 'friendly' school. can't understand how it can be so clear so early on, but that must be because I'm a privileged, CisGender, hetronormative male (and therefore, unqualified to make any comment).
I guess it works by either giving it to everyone who was in the scouts when the badge was issues (this is how some war marks are issued in Israel. everyone who was on duty, even if only at training for a desk job, gets one). another way is to give it to any kid who does something 'gay-friendly'. like lecturing to the fellows scouts about gay rights, volunteering in a gay shelter, helping a gay cross the road, making a campfire for the fags. the stuff that the kid in UP did.

Uh actually it was more a comment as to why they didn't just do this where someone actually bothered to do the walls and floor. Initially I thought it was in the basement of some of old house but the window in the top left suggests elevation. The scene is something I would expect to see in some little getaway cabin or guest house in some soap opera. Hence my comments on the clothing, lighting, atmosphere, the attempt to seem earthy, cozy and romantic. The douchey looking guy, the posed position staring into each others eyes, the entire thing just screams soap opera.

Anyway to your question. I tend to associate that more with the midwest.

If I had a say in it, I'd refuse to live in a brick-interior place:

1) Brick has shitty acoustics. I like my non-reflective, sound absorbing walls
2) Mortar slots leave room for insects and other creepy stuff to crawl in. I hate them.
3) Bricks drop particles all over the place. I hate that as well.
4) Bricks hurt when you run into them. Hate that the most.

I've lost my footing and had to roughly use a brick wall for support once. No biggie, but it wasn't pleasant, and it did hurt.

At home I make contact with my walls quite frequently. Not too long ago I put my head through one. I stub my toe plenty of times in corridors at home, and (this is unrelated) I also don't mind using walls to help me turn corners.

So yeah, brick walls suck. I'm also sure the girl in that pic would rather be pushed against a plaster wall than a brick one.

I must say though, concrete is easier to clean than carpet.

I wear slippers indoors so the cold tiles don't bother me at all. You really make yourself out to be a clutz you know that Bill. Cleaning the floors is very different from having to vacuum every 3 or 4 days or once a week at minimum.

Real subtle there. The one photo you have of a girl being pushed up against a wall, she is enjoying it.

The change during/after Vietnam is exceedingly easy to explain: The USA lost the war. History has proven time after time that the loser of a war is always wrong and to blame for all the suffering. It doesn't even matter who started it all or for what reasons. No doubt that was bitter medicine for the Americans after all the wars they had won, especially WWII.

Europe has little real power now, after centuries of dominating the world, so it's understandable the former powers here aren't happy with the new powers muscling around instead. Many of the smaller countries of Europe, for their part, have often enough felt what it's like to be mere playthings for the big players, which is plenty of reason to feel unhappy when they see it happening elsewhere, as it reminds them of their own past. And then there's a country like Sweden who has never suffered anything but instead grown only richer selling weapons to the world in flames around it. Who knows why they bother to say anything, but I guess they feel so divine that they feel like everybody could benefit from their untouched wisdom.

I use privacy blinds in my kitchen, because I like the light throughout the day, but would rather not have people looking in at all hours. Blackout shades for the bedrooms.

Some sciences aren't absolute, like the social sciences. I could site studies where children who are exposed to sex at an early age go on to lead traumatized lives, but that's all anecdotal evidence as such studies are subjective and hard to control.

Just because it has been shown that one of a set satisfies a given property, does not mean all of that set satisfy that property. Just because you've never met an immortal, doesn't mean they don't exist. So your argument that all humans die is fallacious and a result of your own anecdotal evidence.

Not missing, rather ignoring because it's irrelevant and doesn't apply. I don't need to use the image to support my point, I simply refer to it as it is the basis of this entire argument. An advertisement with no basis in reality to the product it is selling, outside of some avant garde commercial bs, wouldn't be put out there for mass consumption.

The ad clearly speaks to what most viewers would feel in that situation, that a child seeing her parents fucking would be shocked by it and have a lot of uncomfortable questions for the parents, hence the parents/boners would need headache medicine. Sorry, do I now have to prove they are somehow related/associated to the little girl or that it would be a headache for parents to answer such questions? From the way you guys talk, I imagine your parents took you aside and gave you "the birds and the bees" lessons during dinner chit chat.

I would like to think that is fake because human beings cannot possibly be that stupid. The simplest pulley system in the world would have solved their problem. This was just really ill conceived. There are so many issues there. How did they think to aim that, not to mention really large tube tvs are heavy, I had a relatively large one that was about 300 pounds. The only way that stood a chance of clearing the second balcony is if both guys had jumped simultaneously. The biggest one for me is, if the tv is not light enough for you to simply toss it up there how was the person at the top supposed to catch it unless they have herculean strength and weigh about 500 lbs. As it is, the best possible outcome would have the tv making it to that second balcony on target and probably flattening the fool stupid enough to attempt to catch it. Or bozo could have caught it while leaning precariously over the balcony as he is and catching the tv would have overbalanced him just enough to give him a few seconds to think about his stupidity on the brief trip down.

Anyway Hercules' hands are visible the entire time and he seems to respond to the tv arcing towards him through the air and Ani is right. The tv spinning in the air, which it clearly does, would account for the change in trajectory. I'm curious about the kid in the background riding in circles.

Considering the TV is shown from multiple angles when it's flying, it wouldn't be badly edited at all, if it was edited in the first place. I, however, have infinite fate in mankind's infinite stupidness, so I'm very willing to believe people that stupid actually exist and, moreover, they thought that was a brilliant idea.

I don't think it's a matter of accomplices, they are probably helping their friend move and thought up this ridiculous idea to save them some time and effort. I think they're running from adrenaline and just silliness. It's like when you set up fireworks or some other explosive (we did as kids), you'd light it and then run away all willy-nilly even though the danger wasn't that real.
