I was trying to figure out when and if after a certain point, the rest were trolls. While I'm displeased when looking at that, I can imagine myself reacting so when I was young. (And I believe I may have done so actually.. when I was.. 7? 8? No iPhones back then.. I just didn't like the book I got >_> )

"Just what I always wanted" has become some sort of expectation rather than the ultimate hit-and-miss combo..

...Because they are so long lived, atoms really get around. Every atom you possess has almost certainly passed through several stars and been part of millions of organisms on its way to becoming you. We are each so atomically numerous and so vigorously recycled at death that a significant number of our atoms–up to a billion for each of us, it has been suggested–probably once belonged to Shakespeare. A billion more each came from Buddha and Genghis Khan and Beethoven, and any other historical figure you care to name. (The personages have to be historical, apparently, as it takes the atoms some decades to become thoroughly redistributed; however much you may wish it, you are not yet one with Elvis Presley.)...

I'm completely with Ark's latest image. Somebody on this forum once said (or quoted) that we should take "women" out of the "children and women first".

I had a rant about that either here or on IRC one time about how equal-opportunities at some point meant giving away dedicated tertiary education positions for one sex or the other instead of fostering equal competition, consideration.. you know.. opportunities.

It also entertained me that the poster in my old workplace advertised "Equal opportunities in the workforce" with a group that consisted 80% of women. As I said above, actual final numbers don't mean anything.. the laugh was directed at the mindset behind the direction of such a picture.

My mum spouts BS about men being expected to work harder than women, or pulling more income than women. Then again, she also said she'd disown me or find me hard (read: impossible) to accept if I was revealed to be gay, so what do you expect? >_>

That picture needs to be plastered over wikipedia. It's proven to be a good place for spreading public awareness.

Definitely, her face is very childlike, though her body is (surgically) matured.

There's a really cute girl at school that I wanted to ask out, but she has that Asian thing going on where she looks like a little girl. Plus she's about 5'1" so it makes her seem even more childlike which in turn makes it even weirder. If I can't imagine you in a sexual manner without it getting weird, there's no hope for us as a couple.

He just called her really cute in the context of asking her out, which suggests attraction, and not the kind of m/paternal feeling of cuteness little children easily cause in older audience. So, he only dislikes her current sense of fashion. However, a sense of fashion is prone to change, especially if it's something relatively marginal. Although if it looks like she will still publicly dress like a loli when she's 30 years old... Well, might be a prudent decision to reconsider approaching her.

I don't agree with that. Consider if you're looking at some chick from behind that you don't know but she has a cute butt, then she turns around and you realize it's a 14 year old. That doesn't make you a pedo and that doesn't mean you're lying to yourself. We all have urges and fetishes that we might not be proud to admit. You rarely see that at official parking lots, but during all manner of trade fairs, concerts, bigger exhibitions, and other activities arranged in places not normally seeing high traffic, you see bizarre parking. So that the people arriving last must also leave first for the first parkers to be able to navigate out at all. It's actually pretty amusing - as long as you park your own car sagely somewhere not obstructed easily right after you have turned your back to it.

Basic calculus from what I believe.

f(x) is the original function or maths equation. f'(x) is the derivative or transformation of f(x). f''(x) is the derivative or transformation of f'(x). Basically, each transformation with regards to differentiation changes the way the preceding equation appears on a graph. With each transformation, the graph becomes "more linear" while its predecessors are more "curvilinear". In this case, with each differentiation to the original fat man (with lots of body curves), he becomes skinnier; i.e., more linear and ripped.

The knowledge you need to know here is that e^(x) is a special equation/function because if you differentiate the function (turning it into f'(x), f''(x), f'''(x), ...), it always stays the same; i.e., f(x) = f'(x) = f''(x) = e^(x). In this case, the fat man represents e^(x) and differentiating him continuously does not change the "curves" of his physique.

Great work targeting your niche audience, Archie. This is a League of Legends comic. I don't play the game, so I might be wrong on my analyzation of this:

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/B._F._Sword

The item the female champion buys is called the B.F. Sword which purely ups your champion's attack damage stat. That's similar to playing an MMORPG and pumping 50 stat points into the strength stat. Anyway, because the champion is stronger, they can keep on killing the minions that spawn in consistent time intervals and harvest gold/money really fast to buy stronger equipment. They can earn a lot more money if they can manage to kill the opposing team's champions.

Combining the B.F. Sword with other add-on equipment that compliments the equipment (i.e., stacks effects) allows it to be called "BFF" as in "Best Friends Forever" due to the insane synergy the two equipments have with each other. This would explain the first joke/reference.

Because the B.F. Sword is so powerful, it makes it easier to kill other champions on the opposing team. The bottom panel probably just represents an almost orgasmic feeling of great satisfication of the player behind the computer monitor for slaying another champion and getting lots of gold from the sword to control the game because everyone employs the "hit-and-run" tactics for this type of game. Basically, it feels good to finally kill someone who is annoying you by running away from the battle and simultaneously employing the "hit-and-run" tactics previously mentioned.

Lastly, the comic may also satirize video gaming physics because even though the female champion wields a box to attack, a sword can magically make her stronger because that's just how the game works.

The Zooey/Katy one I already knew as I love Zooey and Emily Deschanel same with James Dean Morgan and Javier Bardem. Britney Spears and the baboon and Clark/Superman were hilarious. The one at the end was a fail though because I was sitting at my desk with my arms folded moving the mouse with my mind.

I was actually sitting exactly like that with my hand on my face leaning towards the screen to read the tiny print. I wonder if they did that purposely? Genius.

It's the handwashing/bag-racks section of the lab before you move in to where all the specimens are.

I'm sure I'll be in the minority and cause a kerfuffle, but I've never been much of a fan of Jackie Chan. I think he fills this Charlie Chan goofball Chinaman stereotype that people have of Asians.

And basically every movie he's been in, it's Jackie Chan as the main character, not whatever character he's playing. I know not all actors can be Christian Bale, but who'd ever thought Malcolm's dad could be a criminal mastermind too?

That is pretty much the appeal of Jackie Chan for most people though. You don't watch a Jackie Chan movie to see what character he is playing you watch a Jackie Chan movie to see Jackie Chan. Not that many people can do that and be successful but there are some like Jackie, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, Seagal, Van Damme. Who made a career out of playing a single role.

Why do you assume that it'll cause a fuss? You are free to like or dislike whoever you want.

Your comment though only applies mostly to his western movies. Jackie has portrayed many varying roles in his acting career. If you want to see some good examples, go find his early works before he became famous in the west. There's also some recent films like 1911 and the Myth where he portrays more serious roles.

He also has a very prominent music career and is widely respected in Asia as a director. In fact some of his best films are the ones he personally directed. He doesn't just act like a goofball. It just so happens that the films where he acts like a goofball are much more popular in the west and he just decides to cash in on that, so pretty much every non-chinese movie he's been in just feature him as such.

Pretty much every other topic I've had an opinion on has caused pages long arguments and name-calling, so I figured this would do it too.

But that's fine to hear Jackie Chan does more serious roles and directs. I know he's hugely popular and very successful in China/HK. It's just that living in the U.S. where his goofball monkey-boy routine is popular and his best known works, people associate that kind of thing with broader groups, namely Asians, and that affects me personally.

It's more like Jackie Chan became popular in America because his best known works happens to fit he goofball monkey-boy routine and not the other way around .

Another example is the recent surging popularity of PSY Gangnam Style. It's to the point where the song is getting played on some of the top radio stations in Houston. If you ask any native Korean though, they'll tell you that PSY isn't really that huge over there and is way less popular than other groups like SNSD and so on. His video has a catchy tune with a chubby Asian dude doing stupid shit. It just so happens that fits with what is popular in America so he's popular now.

As far as group association goes, i'm surprised you're not used to it by now living in America. We're pretty damn racist in general and just likes to pretends that we're not by shoving it under political correctness.

I agree with Ani here. I liked Jackie's earlier films more than the Hollywood ones in general. Besides the difference in characters, language may play a bit part in that, since he's can actually speak Chinese correctly.

Well his roles reinforce the stereotype and that's why I'm not ok with them. He got popular because he fit the stereotype that people have of Asians, including that we all know karate (this was more a stereotype from the 80s and 90s).

I grew up around mostly white folks and oblivious to most racial concerns. It was only as an adult that it became evident as a problem in my own life, so I'm just getting used to it now.

Jackie does no more to reinforce any asian stereotype than Tom Cruise does for white people or Wesley Snipes or Floyd Mayweather for black people. Stupid people who believe in stereotypes always will, nothing can be done about that. You seem to dislike him because he is known to western audiences for playing roles that perpetuate a certain stereotype and that is ridiculous Ani. It's like saying black people shouldn't play Gangstas in movies because it perpetuates a stereotype when the end result is the same. You are letting other people dictate how you live your life because they expect you to behave a certain way. Whether you do as they expect you to or you do the exact opposite because you know what they expect of you, either way you lose.

The man destroyed his body making his movies and I would think you would be able to appreciate that.

I disagree with you entirely, but this is the wrong thread for it. I think Jackie Chan is far more representative of a stereotype than Wesley Snipes or Tom Cruise or most other actors. It's not like I'm saying Jet Li fulfills an Asian stereotype. Most of his roles were serious and a positive stereotype of Asians. Jackie Chan has almost exclusively played a bumbling goofball in his films released in the US. Even in his recent commercials for V8 juice he's clamoring about like a monkey.

The man destroyed his body making his movies and I would think you would be able to appreciate that.I appreciate when a guy like Christian Bale mutilates his body to more accurately portray his character. Jackie Chan doing his own stunts is laudable, but didn't do much to make me enjoy his movies any more than I did.

That explains quite a bit about you. Now who's stereotyping?

These were some of the most progressive and accepting white kids you'll ever meet. Race definitely wasn't a factor, but culture was.
