I just recently got mIRC and am learning how to use it...however everytime i go into a room...i am the only one in there...i dont know if i have to forward the ports or what...can someone help me

Well, I'm not really familiar for IRC but you can in fact port forward for it. The port forwarding process will allow Identd and DCC work. Here (http://www.newircusers.com/router.html) is a step by step guide on port forwarding a Linksys router for IRC. If you need it, here (http://www.portforward.com/linksys/wrt54g.htm) is a step by step guide on port forwarding for your specific router (I'm guessing you have version 1). Hope I could help.
