It depends on what kind of 'pic' you're trying to show. If you're talking about avatars or signatures then you'll need to have the photo at a fixed size.

But as for regular photos they should all come out fine... I'd recommend going to your Control Panel, enabling the most complex type of Post Reply options.

Even in the Quick Reply box you should be able to post your pics by pressing on the Insert Image icon (yellow square with mountains). You have to use a direct link to your picture. Hope that helps some

Ok, I've got another question now in addition to my other one (need help finding the DBZ Budokai 3 song, "Ultimate Power").

I want to start watching the Ghost in the Shell series but I see that theres 1 movie and then 2 series. Do I have to watch the movie first before starting on the series? Or does the movie come after the first series? I'm getting these from KAA and I see these torrents: Ghost in the Shell Innocence, Ghost in the Shell SAC, and Ghost in the Shell SAC 2nd GIG.

NM, AniDB has these helpful graphs (http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=rel&aid=61) that tell you which parts of a series come first in relation to the story. I've never watched the Ghost in the Shell series but according to the graph, you should really watch the original Ghost in the Shell movie first (notice its not one of the ones subbed by KAA) and then watch Innocence, a direct sequel to that. After you watched those, you can then watch the Stand Alone Complex series which apparently is an alternate setting for the original Ghost in the Shell. Hope I could help.

Whew, well after a good half hour of searching on the internet I found the song your looking for NM (maybe). Since I've never played the game I really wouldn't know, but I found two files that seem to be the long version and short version of the Budokai 3 opening. I uploaded them to Rapidshare in case anyone else wants them:

Short Version (http://rapidshare.de/files/25151538/budokai3.mp3.html)

Long Version (http://rapidshare.de/files/25151787/budokai3_vl.mp3.html)

I found these on some random Spanish DBZ Fansite, so I don't know if that's what you want, but giving it a shot couldn't hurt I suppose. Hope I could help.

Once again Stos, you are the man!! Seriously, I really appreciate the effort. I owe you one dude. :)

In case anyone's wondering about the two versions in Stos's post, the short version happens to be the Budokai 3 opening but has the Japanese singers voice (this was in the Japanese and European distributions of the game) and the longer version is the American version (Japanese vocal track was edited out).

I don't really expect anyone to be able to help me here, but I'll ask anyway.

Does anyone know where I can find tabs for j-rock songs? Bands like Psycho le Cemu for example. Ultimate Guitar Tabs has a few Dir en grey and X-Japan ones, and Mysongbook.com used to have lots until it semi-closed down (WHY?!!!!).

So I'm really desperate to find new places, especially with Guitarpro stuff. Reason being me and my bandmates want to try other stuff.

So, help? :(

AKFG tabs (http://www.akfgfan.com/guitartabs.php)
Some anime, game, and jrock/pop tabs (http://www.cjas.org/~smoo/tabs.htm)
Couple of Jrock tabs (http://jrock4urhead.webcindario.com/tabs/tabs.php)

Is this what your looking for Terra?

The AKFG tabs are great, as is the stuff in the third of your links. The second one only has regular guitar tabs though. I'm looking for guitarpro tabs in particular.

But thanks for your help, keep 'em coming if you find more. :)

I'll probably have some fun with the Luna Sea tabs...

I set my account with my address, then I add FFXII CE to the cart, and when I try to place the order (after entering credit card data) I get this damn error everytime:

We could not complete your order because of incomplete or incorrect billing address and/or credit card information. Please double-check that your name, phone number, address, credit card number and expiration date match your credit card issuing bank records. If you feel you have been given this message in error please contact our Customer Service Department.

Anybody knows what the hell is wrong with the damn page?
It seems to not like the way I enter my address or my Credit Card... and when I ask through their helpdesk the idiot tells me to try again or to order through amazon (which happens to not deliver videogames to Mexico)

Help?

HELP!

I've been picked to organize a charity event and one thing we need is t-shirts promoting it. I was wondering if anyone here knew of a company, online preferably, that could do a good, but fairly cheap t-shirt.

Three colors on the back, just one on the front. White or whatever default color for the fabric is is fine.

Around 50 shirts is all I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance!

Well, the first thing that came to mind was Cafe Press (http://www.cafepress.com/). If you go to the "Make Your Own Stuff" tab, you'll see that you can create custom shirts by uploading any type of graphics or colors to any of the kind of the template t-shirts they offer and then you can buy it straight from them. I've never used the service myself but I've heard good things from others and it seems like a simple process. Hope I could help.

check this site out: http://www.customink.com/

not sure about price, but apparently you can from thier "thousands of images and hundreds of fonts - or upload your own graphics to create the perfect design".

Also, you can probably find something similar at you local flea market (assuming you just want some sort of print on the t-shirts) but that mite not work if you need a sizable amount.

Edit 1: damn you stos and you're quick fingers!

Edit 2: i checked our thier price quote feature for a simple white shirt (Gildan Ultra Cotton T-shirt), 1 of each size (youth, adult and plus & s/m/l/xl) with 1 color on teh front and 3 on teh back. It comes out to $17.83/shirt. And shipping is apparently free

I have a problem with subtitles. Often when I download them, I find that they are timed completely wrong, so I try to download different versions of the subs in question and sometimes I fail to find even one that matches. What I do when I use the subs is to name the sub file the same as the video file that I am playing. I was wondering; is there any program, or hell, any way whatsoever that I can possibly tweak the subtitles so that they start a bit earlier or a bit later so that they match the video file?

complich8
Tue, 09-12-2006, 01:05 AM
there's a tool called subresync, I think it's included in the vobsub/textsub package. You'd load up an external sub file (srt or ssa) and you can shift the whole file to sync things up.

Depends on how "completely wrong" it is though. Like if it's just all shifted a constant amount, or a growing amount over the course of the file, it's fairly easy to fix reasonably. On the other hand, if it's just badly timed in general, you'd probably have to do more work than it's going to be worth doing...

Psyke
Tue, 09-12-2006, 04:37 AM
I had the same problem once, with the Shinobi movie. Believe it or not, I manually opened up the srt file with a text editor and edited the timing myself for every line spoken in the movie. Sad, but true. Took me around half an hour I think.

Can somebody help me with finding the Japanese Language Support for Windows on the web?

I re-formated the computer earlier this week, and installed Windows Xp Lite (obviously a hack). Then I try to download the language support "automatically", but it seems Microsoft added extra security.

It won't let me download without an original XP Pro Disc (heck... its not even Pro... its Lite) which I do not have, and the website wants me to "prove" my legality by downloading several check files or something.

So... anybody know where can I get the installer for the Japanese Language Support? Please?

The hardest part about installing SoulSeek is getting the port forwarded-- and even then, Windows should be doing that automatically. SP2's firewall allows all port requests for specified programs.

But yeah, SoulSeek is better.

Hello, I have a question I hope someone can answer. I've been trying to upload some vids to Youtube lately and both times, the sound gets out of sync with the video. I know Youtube asks for "mp3" compression but I've been inserting my own music in via Final Cut or After Effects and I wonder if that affects anything. If anyone happens to know which compression option I should use in either program, that'd be great. Otherwise... ..... ......... yeah.

In attempt to amend this shortcoming of mine, I've recently gone out and bought all types of organizing shit for my room, to bring to class.

But the one thing I really need recommendations for a good scheduler/reminder/note application that I can always have on my computer. I've been having trouble with Counter Strike Source. Every time I click on a server, I keep getting the detailed info about it but then I notice that the latency goes up to like 1000 (only in the detailed info box) but in the server list, all my latency's are really low. Eventually I'll get into a server but it takes awhile. Does anyone know of any bug fixes for this problem, or getting the same problem as me?

Spiegel
Tue, 03-13-2007, 01:06 PM
That happens for me in the original TFC and CS, I just never look at the server info and just connect to the server. I think it is a problem with just the half-life content servers. But I could be wrong.

How long are we talking about for a connection? Some go fast for me and some go slow and they will have the same ping in the server list.

NM
Wed, 03-14-2007, 01:04 PM
Most of the time if I try to connect, it'll just say that the connection failed after 4 tries or something like that. For the servers I can actually GET into, it flies by really fast. The only way around this that I've found is to get the ip and connect through the console but again, sometimes it works, and sometimes it won't. =/

I've been having problems with Media Player Classic recently and I'm stumped as to what might be the issue. I'm working off nothing but the latest CCCP (2-22-07) and CoreAVC. Basically what's happening is seeminly random avi files are causing a Windows error when I try to play them in MPC. They work fine on the Zoom in CCCP and Windows Media Player 10, but they are making MPC tap out. What I find really odd is that the same files do not always cause this issue. I opened DB's Bleach 109 earlier this evening and it worked fine, but as of a few minutes ago it has started crashing MPC as well. I did change the name of the file, but I don't know if that would matter. Other files that I have noticed consistently crashing the program are D.Gray-Man 24 (Black-Order's XviD version) and Kyuu's Kiba 04.

Does anyone have any experiance or advice for dealing with issue (other than use another player...)

Kraco
Fri, 03-23-2007, 03:14 AM
Avis sometimes crashed my MPC as well, quite randomly. Though not after I reinstalled os and everything a couple of weeks ago (for other reasons), but before that. I never figured out what it was. However, some xvid avis were also randomly stuttering, and that was fixed when I changed the rendering to ffdshow. Dunno what that was all about, or if it was related.

Munsu
Fri, 03-23-2007, 04:14 AM
There's nothing better than uninstalling all codecs and players and reinstalling... You can always try to get an earlier version of CCCP if the latest one is giving you problems.

That's indeed an interesting idea, and one that never would have occurred to me. Maybe because "stainless" doesn't really mean stainless for me due to all the courses of chemistry I attended at the uni. Exactly like the Leatherman site (http://www.leatherman.com/products/tool-maintenance/default.asp) puts it: "But stainless steel is not rust proof; it is corrosion resistant". Thus, I would never put my Leatherman in a dishwasher. Dishwasher detergent is highly alkaline as far as I know, and thus not exactly metal friendly.

The site, if you have a look at it, suggest a solution of mild detergent and water. This in itself also reveals Leatherman doesn't recommend a dishwasher.

Ah I see what you mean... I've tried doing that before without luck. You can do a couple of things to see if they fall in the order you want, though it's more trouble than it's worth. Enable then disable the "group together" function. You can also kill all the explorer.exe you have open then reopen it and see if they come up in the order you want. But that's simply not worth the trouble.

Do a google search with "taskbar + window order"... there's apparently some application and tools that lets you do what you want.

I don't know if it's trustworthy or the credability, but you can start with this and see:

Hey people ---

So I know the Wii is out and whatever, I suddenly want to play some Japanese games on my GameCube. I know where to get them - playasia.com is, as far as I know, the only reliable place left.

Thing is, which of the many freeloader disks should I get? The descriptions are all equal and I don't know if the three options work the same... so, does anyone here know?

My 'Cube is a standard american one, so should I get the Japanese version (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-28-77-2-49-en-15-Freeloader-70-1ssg.html) or the American Version (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-28-77-1-49-en-15-Freeloader-70-1ssh.html) of the freeloader?

I'm also transferring as a matter of fact. And yes, I'm going from a university to a college (although the college I'm going to is in the city, I'm transferring to a school that's in Boston). I'm a little bit worried about meeting new people and such but that's how it was when I first started out in college anyway. And then eventually, it become a really nice experience. If that's what your worried about, you just have to give it some time and then things will flow smoothly.

60C is a bit on the warm side, but it depends what the component is. For most solid-state stuff (cpu's, gpu's) I'd say that's within the tolerances. Generally, most cpus are rated for 70-75C peak (so try to stay below there and you're fine) and modern gpus for more like 90-100C.

If it's a disk, it's definitely on the hot side. If it's ram, it's probably also on the hot side.

Question: What is the difference between MGS 2 and 3, and the Substance versions of each?

NM
Sun, 05-06-2007, 09:50 AM
The Substance versions are basically "extended" versions of the original game. For the MGS2 Substance version, VR missions were added, as well as a mode called Snake Tales, where you do some missions as Snake. MGS3's Subsistence version had a new camera for the original game, and included online play. There was also a bonus disc with Subsistence, which was basically an interview with Hideo Kojima (although I think you had to pre-order Subsistence back then to get it).

MGS 2 sucks, it's a crappy story and a crappy environment. It's a Metal Gear Solid, but doesn't improve much on the existing gameplay.

MGS 3 is awesome. The story isn't great, but interesting since it's set before the other games. The gameplay is very fun, since the jungle environment is rich and full of innovative quirks to play around with. Bees on your face bitch! Also, the introduction of the Medkit and Camo systems are pretty cool new things, and I love catching your own food.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance has the old game, a couple not so hot Easter Eggs, but one big, big addition: about 500 stand-alone missions (some VR, others situated in the game environment) and "Snake Tales" a short series of tasks without a great deal of story, also set in the Big Shell (aka lame) environment.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Substance is the original game plus the first two Metal Gear games ever (these are oldies boys), a very handy first-person camera mode for the normal game and online play (up to 8 players, 5 or so kinds of games). It's worth buying Substance 3 just for the new camera mode, it makes the game much less restrictive and really opens up the awesome interactive environment.

edit - goddamn beat me to the punch NM...

Stolen from another site, people said it worked.

1. Download and install the mp3towave program available at: http://www.vitaminic.com/download/mp32wav.zip
2. Convert your MP3 file to WAV using the mp32wave software
3. Open the wave file in "Record Sound" (available in "Accessories Menu" at Windows)
4. Click on "File Menu" -> Save As and change the format to "16000Hz, 8Bits, Mono"
5. Download the "Okiadpcmplayer" at: http://ukinglli.cnzn.com/lg7100/soft/adpmakesoft.rar
6. In the Okiadpcmplayer program, click on the first button, choose the wave file and click
on the "DUMP" button (this will create a file with the same name but with .ADP extension)
7. Transfer the file to your mobile phone! (With LG7100, you can
use the "LG Contents Bank" program,
available at: http://gb.lgservice.com/jsp/common/d...e&FILE_GUBUN=B )

Alrighty, I have a question.

Me, I'm going to be buying a new computer within the month, but I'm just wondering about one thing: is Windows Vista worth getting or should I just stick with XP? I heard a lot of bad rep when it first came out, but after some time has passed, surely a lot of the bugs have been fixed now. Plus, the system requirements to use Vista shouldn't be a concern.

complich8
Fri, 07-20-2007, 11:07 PM
judgment call at this point. Some people who're using vista love it. Some people hate it. There's good arguments for either stance, and really no room for criticism of either choice at this point.

But there's still a lot of random bugs, and even more random annoyances in vista. If you're very comfortable with XP, vista's got a learning curve and some unexpected behaviors to watch out for.

Functionality wise, Vista is superior to XP in every aspect except copying files (which seems to take extra long for some reason). If you don't mind learning a slightly different version of Windows, I highly recommend you get Vista. There's a learning curve but cmon...Windows is Windows. How different can it be?

Driver support, system requirements, legacy support for games....
Driver support and system requirements are irrelevant if you're buying a new computer right now with modern hardware. Even if you have some old hardware, chances are that Vista comes bundled with the drivers provided the hardware isn't some obscure thing from Asia. I installed Vista on a friend's computer and it had working drivers for her ancient HP inkjet built in.

As for games, nearly all games that worked on XP will work on Vista either natively or through some compatibility tweaking. And to be realistic, you're not buying a brand new computer to play ancient DOS games.

On a side note, has anyone here had experience with Nero Backitup 2.x? Took me two whole nights to figure out that if it doesn't burn succressfully on max speed too, so I've got a paper basket full of DVDs now, lol. Well i have been looking for these 2 movies for years now.

Street Soldiers - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102995/
Quiet Cool - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091815/

I have been looking all over. Ever torrent site i know of, all of my DC hubs, on other forums, chats and asked friends but no one can find any place to download them from. Now it might just be that they are not even ripped in any way and might just not exist on internet.

But i thought i should ask if anyone here knows anywhere to get it or have it stashed away on some HDD or burned down. Hope you can at least take the time to check the sites you know and see if you can find it.

And no i don't want a site where i can BUY it since i don't feel like paying big money for 2 movies that probably suck and only hold a sentimental value because it was movies i loved when i was 10-12. I just want to relive old memory's.

I was wondering if anyone was familiar with Lightscribe dvds? I use Memorex labels for my anime when I burn them and I was going through a couple and some of them are having trouble being read (sadly among the ones that didn't work were Full Metal Panic :( ) because the Memorex labels are pretty much just stickers. My laptop is compatible with lightscribe so I wanted to know if anyone has worked with them and how does it work?

NM
Wed, 01-09-2008, 10:39 PM
Well, I already knew that, lol. But I suppose I should have my question clearer, sorry about that. My main concern is if I'll have problems copying from the dvd to my computer/laptop if I work with these lightscribe labels? The Memorex labels was pretty clear and said their may be a small chance that specific problem could occur (again, these are stickers that I could print the images on and put them on the dvd). I should have listened to them. :(

Board of Command
Wed, 01-09-2008, 10:41 PM
Aren't the Memorex labels just stickers that go on the top of the disk? That shouldn't damage the disk in any way.

NM
Wed, 01-09-2008, 10:50 PM
Yep, they are. When I put the disk (w/ the label on top) into the computer, all the data is there. But when I try to copy and paste them on the computer, sometimes the error appears saying "could not read data from source". Some episodes will copy just fine, others won't. Is it more of a burning problem then?

On the Memorex labels package, it says this: "Using a standard or full-face paper label on DVDs may result in the disc becoming unreadable".

Board of Command
Wed, 01-09-2008, 10:52 PM
Sounds like you burned some coasters. I really don't see how label stickers can make the disk unreadable.

That, or maybe the disks simply went bad. I don't know how old those disks are, but burnt DVD disks have a shelf life. I think it's around 5 years? (but could go bad any time)

NM
Wed, 01-09-2008, 11:24 PM
Damn...

Well, thanks for the help then BoC. :) I still think I'll give the lightscribe dvds a go if the only problem is with the episodes being burned or simply the dvds going bad...it'll save me money on ink and the labels if anything.

Animeniax
Thu, 01-10-2008, 12:23 AM
It might not have anything to do with the labels. Did you try the disks on another drive? My Asus laptop DVD drive is kind of picky about reading some disks. My plextor dvd burner drive on my desktop is finicky too. The DVD drive on my company Compaq laptop reads pretty much any disk.

NM
Thu, 01-10-2008, 01:34 AM
I tried it once on my very old laptop from Acer and the Tessa OVA I mentioned before did not copy properly (took maybe about 4 tries to get it on the computer). I have a new laptop now from HP and I'm having the same problem with it. I tried out the original FMP! series and was having problems copying some episodes as well. However, I do recall my brother trying out my dvd (the Tessa OVA once again) on his computer and it copied just fine. I didn't think dvd drives would be very picky on the type of disks inserted?

Kraco

I didn't think dvd drives would be very picky on the type of disks inserted?

Ho... You have no idea. There are HUGE differences. Generally speaking it's not a bad idea to read some quality reviews/comparisons (I stress quality because I don't mean nonsense reviews without actual documented write/read and error correction tests) before buying drives. The price differences aren't big (unless you are speaking of those pro-Plextors that cost as much as a whole computer) but the performance varies a lot not only between manufacturers but between different models of the same manufacturer.

So, it really may pay off to buy a burner that has good burning performance and a dvd-rom drive that has an excellent reading performance. For, surprise surprise, those two things don't go hand in hand. Burners have a far more complicated technology and mechanics than simple readers and thus they receive a weaker signal from the disk when reading. That's why a carefully selected rom drive will read disks writers reject. I know because I speak of experience, and I indeed bought both my reader and writer based on fine reviews.

Anyway, before you buy blank media, check a site like video help (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia) to see what others have experienced with the said media code. I rarely buy dvdr media if I can't check the media code first. That'd be like buying a car without knowing if it's from the year 1982 or 2006.

Wow, I really didn't know that most dvds could have poor quality...I guess now I've found the main problem! Burner wise I think I'm fine with my HP built-in burner (got the Pavilion Entertainment edition) since some episodes of anime are functioning correctly. I was checking out the Video Help site you gave me Kraco (already have this on my bookmarks :) ) and Verbatim makes the lightscribe dvds I had been talking about before. And their good quality according to the reviews so looks like I can save on ink and have better quality dvds.

BoC, Animeniax, and Kraco, thanks so much for helping me find my problem!

I've done the lightscribe thing. Burning dvds worked normally, but the lightscribe burn process is really really slow. Like, writing a simple text ring took 5 or 6 minutes. It was up to fifteen minutes for a decently large, readable, distinguishable piece of text. On a couple disks I went fancy and did graphics, and that was upwards of half an hour per disk.

Lightscribe looks ok, but not great. You're better off with a fricking sharpie and a little effort to write legibly, imo. In fact, the last 5 lightscribe-capable disks I burned, that's what I went with for the labels.

Aren't all lightscribe labels just that sandy beige color? Kind of bland to me.

Kraco
Fri, 01-11-2008, 03:12 AM
A friend of mine went through considerable trouble to once burn me a lightscribe disk but I can't say the end results would still be that fancy. Kind of bland, like Animeniax said.

I guess the best looking disks might made with printable disks and a suitable printer. Although considering those printers aren't marketed that aggressively, at least not over here, I wonder if they also have some problems.

I'm looking for an old console game that I once played, but I don't remember it's name.

it had a tank (or some vechile with a gun) that could jump and change the angle of the cannon, and you could jump out the tank and play a little man and shoot up some things.
sort of like metroid, but with less secret areas and upgrades, but still a good game.
does anyone know whats the name of the game, and for which system it was?

Hi guys. I'm trying to find this funny tv commercial that I saw quite a while ago. But I'm not sure what country it's from though, since I saw it on the news as one of the "world top funniest TV commercials of 2007" when I was in Japan last Dec 07. The tv commercial goes like this:

Guy goes home. Sees shoes & clothes & underwear strewn all over the floor. Barges into his bedroom. Wife is alone (naked I think?) on the bed, trying to look innocent. Guy opens the wardrobe and voila, half-naked guy is hiding inside there.

Guy looks at the hunky handsome muscular half-naked guy, looks at his own skinny wimpy body, then walks away dejectedly.

Punch line is something like: time to exercise / join some gym membership or something.

Any idea anyone???
Would be great if you could actually find this on youtube. Thanks in advance!

I wonder if it's the right place but I'm seeking data on PC Fax function of MFPs

In short I need a multifunction printer which PC Fax function enables me to receive faxes for preview on my comp before printing.
It's an incredibly useful function, but printer manufacturers don't communicate that much on that easy to achieve feature... most of the time it's not available, yet it's a powerful tool against spamfaxes (around 5/day, hidden number, I can't change my fax number...)

I guess spam faxes are a blessing to printer manufacturers, as it cost ink and so on...

If you know of nice multifunction printers with full PC fax function in receive mode, feel free to drop a few words here (I know brother mfps do, but these printers are a nightmare...)

It might be worth it to just have a faxmodem and software on your PC and a regular printer. It would require you to leave your PC running in order to receive faxes, but would be cost effective versus buying an mfp that has preview software. I think some of the business-oriented mfps have that functionality, but I'd be surprised to see many home units with that feature.

I've searched the external RTC modem solution, the internal too.
Truth is these modems are considered things of the past and do not get much upgrade or anything... all I find is old software and hardware that glitches a lot...

Considering how basic and easy the function is, I wonder why manufacturers do not even think about it! it's so basic, so obvious you may want to attach an incoming fax to your next email... or you'd like to keep trace of your incoming faxes on your comp for whatever reason.

To my knowledge, the only manufacturer I'm sure does this is Brother, but I hate their printers that stop printing when any cartridge is empty and black isn't for example or many other glitches related to their network software....

I tried HP support, but they suck even though their hotline is damn expensive... and they never replied my mail!

It's actually very strange... when fax is so important and even is legal in France for contracts for example (I guess it's the same in other countries?)

Well, thanks for your answer, I hope someone can help me MFP wise, because I guess it's the only way to have up to date hardware and software. (or bloatware, but it's another subject)

I've been using a PS2 controller to play games on the PC, be it emulators or PC games. However, recently one of the games required the use of the right analog stick, and only then did I realise that my PC doesn't recognise the horizontal axis of the right camera. This is frustrating, because I can't rotate the game camera to progress with the game. I've tried 3rd party software which maps controller to game functions, which recognises the axis of the right analog stick in the setup but still it doesn't work in the game. Anybody faced similar problems with your PS2 controllers?

Let me guess... You're emulating FF12?

If you are, then try a different controller plug-in. I use a Logitech Dual Action pad and it has all the necessary features of an actual PS2 controller. I've never used the PS2 controller.

I had a similar problem like yours, in that the games would map the right stick incorrectly, used some third party app to force the games to recognize it right.
Forgot what app it was though >_> maybe you could look into Xpadder (http://xpadder.com/) and map the mouse to the right stick.

Has anyone got Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance to work on Vista(32bit)? MGS4 looked interesting, so I played through the playstation 1 game yesterday, and thought I'd at least get through the second as well before buying the new one. I've managed to avoid spoilers so far. I don't have a PS2, so I'm dependent on the pc version working.

When I start the game up, the screen just goes black, even though it doesn't say that the program isn't responding. I've gone through many other threads on other forums that describes this problem, but none of them had a solution. I've tried all compatibility modes.

Also, will I be completely lost if I skip the third game in the series? Please answer without spoilers.

I'm not really sure whats wrong with your MGS2 Substance game so I can't really answer that one. However, I would HIGHLY recommend you play MGS3 Subsistence. It features a much better camera than the one that was used in the original MGS3 Snake Eater. You would be missing some things from the story if you don't play MGS3. MGS4 explains some of the events and characters in further detail that took place in MGS3.

Plus, MGS3 is one of the best ones in the franchise imo. You'll have alot of fun playing it, especially with the boss fights.

I got the same problem previously, when I got the game and tried to get it working on my laptop while waiting for the release of MGS4. Tried all methods too, including getting some files from gamecopy.com, but didn't work. Gave up in the end.

I'm not too sure if Snake Eater is available on the PC, but it IS essential if you want to follow the story. MGS4 reference a lot of events from Snake Eater, and many of the twists and turns in the plot are centered around their characters. Of course you can skip it, but that will only mean that you will be confused by the complex plot continued and concluded by MGS4.

download the patch from here:
http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/mgs2pc/english/patch.html

1. Install the game using a Full Install. Then backup your "mgs2.exe" and "mgs2_sse.exe" from the "C:/Program Files/KONAMI/MetalGearSolid2 Substance/bin" folder.

-Note: May be ".../Program Files (x86)/...", I custom installed mine into Program Files on a seperate drive.

2. Goto http://m0001.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_metal_gear_solid_2.shtml

3. Click on the "Metal Gear Solid 2 v2.0 [ENGLISH] No-DVD/GeForce Fixed EXE" link.

4. Download the file, when it finishes it may not have an extension. You'll have to enable the showing of filetypes if it's disabled, and then make the file a ".rar" file.

5. Extract the .rar file into the directory from Step 1, overwrite the two files it will ask you to (you should have a backup already anyway).

6. Now I have a Creative SoundBlaster soundcard, so I can use this program for my next step. As for people with a different soundcard, you can give it a try but I've never tested it on any other card.

Goto http://fileforum.betanews.com/download/Creative_ALchemy_Project/1175058504/1, it will automatically send you a

file to download. Download it.

7. Install Creative Alchemy, (the program you just downloaded), and open it up.

8. If it looks the same as mine does, hit the "Add" button in the bottom middle of the program. Use these specifications...

Game Title: mgs2

Click the "Use Game Path" option, and use this path, or alter to fit your install... "C:\Program Files\KONAMI\MetalGearSolid2 Substance\"

Check "Install into Sub Folder", and make the subfolder "bin"

Check "Install into Root and Sub Folders"

Leave everything else as is, and hit OK.

9. Run the game, and it SHOULD work

i have my computer hooked up to my stereo. good sound quality, and i didn't have to buy anything extra except for the cable. if you have a stereo, you can give that a try. if not, you can just get two laptop speakers for basic sound quality. if you want bass, you can also get a set of speakers with an additional subwoofer, which improves your overall sound experience, but isn't as portable. since you play bass, though, this would probably be a good option for you. i don't know what brands you guys have down there, but i like logitech.

X-240 if you intend to play it loud. Both systems aren't too different in size. This one's got slightly narrower, but thicker satellites, and a bigger sub. It's RMS rating is around double the R-20, and also has a higher signal-to-noise ratio, basically allowing for much louder and clearer playing.
Aside from loudness, it's it also has an mp3 desktop docking feature. If you're the type of guy who has all his songs on his ipod, and loves to hear a song or two on the big base, this system lets you do it without having to boot up your notebook.

R-20 is the lighter version of this. If you want 2.1 sound and don't mind having your computer on to play some music, this little guy will save you some bucks. Don't expect to hear this guy from the other side of your house, but it's definitely powerful enough for you to grow deaf sitting in front at max(or even half) volume.

I've got a R-20 set myself.

Does anyone know of any IRC channels (on rizon or anywhere else) where I could download the Tadashi subs of Soul Eater? I just moved back to my apartment and using torrents will slow down the connection for my roommates...so alas, I must go back to using IRC again.

Any help here guys?

I didn't manage to find any IRC channels, but I did find my way to getsouleater.com, where they send Tadashi releases to Megaupload, as well as Rumbel Late-Night versions when they come out.

Maybe this will help on the bandwidth?

In one of the banners there seems to be an african american with a forked afro and a sword with a white ribbon coming for it. What is the name of that anime? Also, what is that anime about and is it good?

"seems to be an african american with a forked afro and a sword with a white ribbon"

Haha, hahaha, I love they way you said that. xD

Its Called Afro Samurai | Main character voiced by Samuel L Jackson.

The animation is pretty amazing in my opinion and its chalk full of kickazz scenes.

Shes only 5 episodes long however but definitely worth the watch. Give er a shot. ^^

Uh something about the wording in that post just makes me feel awkward:p I'm guessing you're talking about Afro Samurai. The name speaks for itself, basically its about a Black Samurai. I think I saw the first two episodes, didn't seem like anything special so I didn't follow it. Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afro_Samurai)

I just bought a Kingston 8GB flash drive that's formatted in FAT32 by default. When I tried copying a file that's >4GB, I got the nice message that says FAT32 can't take 4GB.

If I went to format the thing in NTFS, what's the pros and cons of doing so? Will it be Mac compatible / Have reduced usable memory etc?

Any ideas? (It's not something I have to get around. Just thought it'd be nice to have a HD movie around in case I got bored :p)

I want one of those cool gold terra cotta thumb drives made by Kingston, but they only come in 4GB size.

Formatting your stick for ntfs will definitely reduce the amount of available space, if it can even be done.

Hey guys and gals of gotwoot, I need some advice!

I've had my DDR mats for a few years now, and they're starting to wear out. They're ripping on the inside, and I find I'm having more problems with the sensors getting stuck. It annoys me when I lose my combos due to my mats acting up. So, it might be time to invest in a new pair. I'll likely be moving quite far next year, so portable is a must (no arcade-style metal mats for me). And I'm also nearly broke, so cheap important too. But I can make some sacrifices for DDR (who needs groceries anyway, right?) so let me know if you have any intuition about what sort of soft mats are out there which will be durable and high quality, yet still within a student budget. If you own a certain brand, I'd be interested to hear how happy you are with yours.

For the PC or for the consoles? I bought one a year ago because of Step Mania, and it was pretty good. No problems with detection whatsoever, in which I had previous problems because I wanted to connect PS2 controllers to the PC.

I'm specifically looking for ones to connect to my PS2, although USB connections could be useful too since I have my tv hooked up to my computer, and a copy of Stepmania waiting for me to install.

In that case you can buy the PS2 version, and then buy an adapter to connect any PS2 connection (and most other controllers in other versions) to a computer through USB. I think they run at or below 20 USD.

I tried that once, but the PS2 controller cannot detect 2 buttons being pressed simultaneously, and it was horrible because most of the time you need to step on 2 arrows together. Thankfully, the controller came with a serial port for the PC and I hooked it up to the TV and it was all good to go.

erm its impossible to formad pendrive to NTFS i think - FAT32 was highest setting for mine 8GB(got backtrack3 + some lan games on it in case of lanparty). Also i hate Macs so i wont know if its mac compatible(yes i used mac thats why i hate them)

Hehe how can you hate the MAC? You can even install Windows as a vm and use both at the same time.

I have the Kingston 8 GB, but never had an issue like that. The only thing that sucks if you do go NTFS is that the DivX players that have a USB port won't be able to read the files on your drive. So if you have that and plan to watch movies with it, then I don't suggest formatting to NTFS.

You can definitely format a pen drive or any other usb/firewire/esata disk NTFS.

FAT32 does indeed have a 4 gig hard filesize limit inherent to the filesystem. Nothing you can do about it.

OS-X will read but won't write ntfs by default. Most linux distros will read but won't write ntfs by default. For both os-x and linux, there's a FUSE (filesystem in userspace) module to let you write to ntfs volumes.

I think the PS3 is still picky about the directory structure of disks you give it, but should be able to work with the right structure and definitely supports FAT32. At least, that's what my quick google search is turning up.

Macs are cool, as long as you want to do what they're good at and you don't try to open the hood too much. But if you do a lot of media watching, especially newer media types (softsubbed mkv's, softsubbed mp4's) things get weird fast. I'd take a so-so winbox with cccp and mpc over any mac for media viewing in a heartbeat... even moreso if we toss coreavc into the mix and define mediocre as lower end of the current generation of processors. Any time you're hacking around in .plist files and picking apart the structure of a .app, or just playing with the netinfo editor ... you should probably just walk away.

Is there some inherent problems with large (8GB or 16GB) USB flash drives formatted in FAT32?

I've talked about before how I bought an 8GB Kingston drive, and copy 8GB worth of video files (170MB to 343GB in size range each) would result in corrupted and unreadable files. Few are readable. I returned that for another one, with same results. I concluded the batch was bad.

That was several weeks ago.

Today, my dad received his 16GB stick be bought off the net, and I'm getting similar, though I'm unsure if identical, problems. Larger video files, and sometimes even smaller ones, are unreadable. Is there something inherently wrong with large USB sticks, or is it my computer(s) fault?

My 1GB USB works fine. I've had that for a year now. I've also tried other people's USBs with no problems, though I can't remember if they were that large. Maybe I'm just unlucky.

PS: that 16GB USB was a different make.

I think FRAPS can show FPS, though I haven't personally tried (despite having used fraps to capture video). Great many games have an inherent ability to show the fps count as it's of utmost importance to mappers. You just have to enable it in the config file (or console if the game has such). But then again, since you are asking, I suppose your particular game doesn't allow this.

Just downloaded FRAPS, and it's exactly what I'm looking for. Small little program that shows me my framerates so I can tweak accordingly. That video capture could come in handy too.

My Asus graphics card come with a similar application called AsusOSD, but that didn't work, for some reason. It didn't ask me for an install directory, and all it did was run a keyboardsomething.exe on start-up. No desktop short cut or start menu entry. The exe itself was located under C:/windows. I got rid of that soon enough.

Thanks Kraco.

For the pendrive problem - i think its something wrong with your PC. I have got 8gb usb stick(A-data - sucks but well - I just use it for LAN-parties) - once I took whole Last Exile series on it and I had no problems(it was faster than slow W-LAN) with corrupted files.

The first time I watched the series, I was also one who was disappointed with the ending. The build up was just too much that my expectations couldn't have been met even if it was End of Eva I had watched in stead of the last two episodes.

Now after just re watching the series I feel a part of me grasping to each identity personified in the ending of this incendiary master work of art. Asuka, Shinji, Rei, even Misato each one of their insecurities hit home for me.

You can say "its depressing" but really you wouldn't comprehend it if you weren't already. At least, you'll only see it from the outside looking in. Haha, and yet when you do understand its exactly opposite; the inside looking out.

- How we perceive ourselves, and how others perceive us all feels minuscule to my will to survive. But since they coincide there must be balance. Why do I even want to live? To be or not to be? If I were to go now albeit I wouldn't feel nothing, but it wouldn't have been worth the struggle neither.

So I must mark my existence in some way. Internally or externally I will prove to myself why I deserved to be given this life to live. It wasn't to be alone. Complex words from a child that can't learn from the mistakes of his past. Anxiety takes over as I delve deeper into my own psyche. Will I ever learn? Will it always be this hard? Questions only answerable by ones will to live. Awkwardness. Inescapably cemented into my sub conscious. My other me.

I'm talking to myself? Although I'm talking to others... I'm really having a conversation within my own brain. Electrons beaming signals and all I can do is copy them. I love to look into the future, the thought of what to come is enough to place my self into a dream world of wishful thinking. When really the potential to overcome it all and grasp to more than ideals and beliefs but to life itself was there all along. I just lost it... how do I get it back? No its far easier not to worry.

Excuses, reasons not to be. Its too hard. Whats the point? Because it is me. I wish to be therefore I am. But at this point rather, therefore I can. I know I can. Just give me a chance. Let me be me, I can be happy. I'm not afraid of failure. Just let me try. I think i cant, I think I cant, I think I cant, but I think YOU can. That is.. I look to the idea that I have the potential to imprint my life into this planar existence because it is all that I know. What else do we have besides that? Inner peace and happiness? The love of another?

Why not an abstract then? The love of progressive thought. As long as you thrive to better oneself each day then isn't that good enough?
Questions without answers...

Can I even live up to my own expectations of myself? Or will I fall victim to my own bad habits and flaws. Riveted with excuses that may or may not hold bearing. One or the other matters not. Oh god I'm talking like I'm Yoda... Does that mean I'm a Jedi? Do I think too highly of myself? I was born on christmas... perhaps im the next coming. Woah, that is WAY too much pressure. Do I think too highly of myself?

Awake... always a paralyzing euphoric message. Stop depending on those around you and cling to the life you are lucky enough to possess. Stop asking for help and stand up already. Punch through to the other side. It seems so unbelievably close. I can grasp it, I can maneuver it, why cant I be it? ....Awake.

You don't need the approval of others but the approval of yourself.

What had begun as reflections of Evangelion's impact on me, turned into reflections of myself. Too quickly almost. So I bring this brain spit, this philosophical circling around the ageless, ever present, ultimate cliche question of; "Why am I here?" To the stoop of asking others for help. The truth remains it is only myself I can look to. I need someone to negate it, that someone is the beast within me. Maybe it can help me if I let it out.

I would've made my own topic but I find that the irony of posting it in this thread is at least worth a cheap smile.

I leave this last statement clearly to mark my existence... So at least you'll know I tried. Its not that I hated contact with others, I'm just protecting myself. Me me me me me, so worried about my own well being. As shameful as it is, I do things for myself, I think for myself... therefore I only deserve myself. Until I can tap into what I'm sure is there, I'll always remain stagnant, unchanging and without resolve.

What will you choose? To deny me and my proof of being like everyone else? Perhaps see me as an abstract? A flickering light in the chain? Or of a dimmed one in a world full of brights?

KitKat
Mon, 12-01-2008, 01:09 AM
Well, if you want to identify with introverts, you shouldn't have a problem here. Just speaking from experience, a lot of extroverts get bored with online forums really quickly, preferring to interact with others in person. However, forums naturally suit those of us who are introverted, because it allows us to limit our interaction with others in doses that we control, and gives us a chance to think carefully over our words, rather than being pressured to respond right away as happens in regular conversation.

Here's my response to your letter to yourself:

I've had many similar monologues with myself. And usually in about as chaotic and fragmented a form as you've written yours (and all very vaguely unspecific so that in case anyone ever found my journal there wouldn't be anything that would connect it with specific people or events....I'm weirdly paranoid like that).

Even now, I've rewritten what I think should be the next sentence 3 times because although I have no problems being open with other people and sharing my happiness with others, I don't like anyone to see my struggles and my doubts, and some of the things you wrote resonate with me in that respect. Some things I have found answers to, but others still haunt my thoughts.

I will say though (and this is as much advice to myself, as it is to you), don't stop depending on others. Be independent, yes, but know that the people around you can and will give you support. It's a harder thing to choose to rely on others when you know you could get along on your own. Never underestimate the power of helping others to transform yourself, and dramatically shift your entire perspective.

I'm looking for a program to run on Windows XP Pro SP2 that performs the same function as the inbuilt "blank screensaver-> password on resume".

I want something that'll let me lock the computer down, letting it do my preset tasks undisturbed, be it downloading, encoding etc, but for various reasons, I'd prefer if my "Buffalobiian" user account isn't passworded itself (which is required for the screensaver function).

Anybody ever used one or got one handy?

(Edit: I'd like the program to only password lock direct keyboard/mouse input, but leave network commands/traffic totally unhindered. Some running programs I'd wish to control remotely via laptop without trouble).

I've recently been trying to get all the chapters of the Persona 3 manga but I can't figure out what order it goes in. I've got up to Piece 10 and then some random chapters titled 'chapter 17/18/whatever' and then 'Perspectives'.

So, can anyone tell me...the order? D=
