He was trying to do the secondary lotus however, kimimaro wouldn't allow it. I don't think doing anything else would have helped other than if lee didn't recently under go surgery and opened all his gates, but then we don't know what kimi could do at level 2.

im not sure based on the evidence so far that kimmi is faster than rock, although its clear he wasnt even slightley bothered. for all we know the bones coming out of his body to stop contact could be an involuntary act like gaaras sand. if not it only shows his reactions to be faster so far, not his actuall movement. on the other hand i think if kimmi IS faster than rock, then gaara doesnt stand a chance unless hes got some new uber technique. if he can bypass the shield then gaara is toast, sand armour is all well and good vs physical attacks with blunt weapons, but if you pierce it with somthing in a stabbing movement, its still a pierceing. it will still kill hurt or mame him.

anyone know if they are implying that rock has his weights off by default now?

I think he stil has them on... since when he took them of flast you could hardly track him. Also, I don't think he will take them off since that is only allowed to hapen if he is protecting someone special or some other crap like that... when he did it against Gaara he had direct permission from Gai to do so.

lee jus went through surgery and he was barely able to walk before, wat makes u think he'd put the weights back on so soon? it would be making it MUCH harder for himself in his current condition. and... kimi was not scared at all of lee... all he said wuz he was impressed, probably because he doesnt kno many people other than himself w/ such good speed.

hey isnt kimi still sick? that kinda puts garra at an advantage also because garra probably has some new move up his sleeve cuz all other sand-nins did too.

didnt the "finger bullet" things go through the sand? isnt that the first thing besides chidori to completely penetrate the sand? since wen lee fought he was faster than the sand not more powerful.

Kind of, no, and no.

The "finger bullet"s were allowed through the sand, they were stopped then dropped to the ground(imo).

Lee's punches went through the sand when he was playing with gaara too, sometimes there was sand blocking him and he punched right through it.

So like I just said, lee was both faster and more powerful than the sand.

the 2 previous times that we've seen that donut of smoke effect surrounding the target of the shadow dance was done by lee without the weights, and sasuke with the equivalent speed of lee without the weights....

therefore seeing the smoke donut around kimimaro should be an indication that lee does not have his weights on

I'd have to agree with Jessper on this. From what I can tell, all the impact from the bones was absorbed by the sand, and then Gaara allowed them to drop to the ground. So, judging by that, if Kimi was able to break through Gaara's sand, it wouldn't do him much good since the sand would absorb all of the momentum of the attack, resulting in negligible damage to Gaara.

Sorry to break it to you guys.. but Rock has fallen behind other Genins. While others were able to train after the Chuunin exam, he was recovering. So.. pretty much anyone is stronger than him right now. We have seen everyone improve: Chouji, Neji, Kiba, Naruto, Shika, Sasuke, and all the sand nins. But NOT Rock. He is weaksauce now. Even after he recovers, he'll have to tough time catching up.

And as for the fight with Gaara and Kimi. I think it'll be a close fight now the Kimi is at Lv.2. I'm looking forward to what kind of finishing techniques each one of them have.

chouji, i dont think he got stronger, but the fact is he's always been strong even though he doesnt show it... its just that the situation is not desparate enough for him to fight at full power...

kiba and shikamaru cannot finished off their opponent... how strong are they?

Lee lost to Gara, but Gara would have taken on all 4 sound ninjas and win... plus Lee is a genius at drunken kungfu... and one more thing... what ever doesnt kill u can only make u stronger... thats not true in real life but this is a anime.... like dragonball

Ok, I have to say that Gaara's landscaping abilites are impressive....... I'l change my vote, and say Gaara would have the upper hand, as he can attack from every possible direction, AND defend at the same time.
