    Concerning [AonE]_Naruto_124

I have always been a fan of [AonE]'s (And ANBU's) English fan subbing to the exclusion of all others, but this last episodes translations were ... well ... off. This is the first time that I kept [DB]'s release over their usually spectacular work for my collection. It seemed very rushed as the translations didn't really flow well and the English was ... awkward at points. I don't mean to flame, but express a bit of concern from a fan that always enjoyed their work.

Yeah, the episode was excellent ... can't question that [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

As I said, I really like AonE's other works ... just that the translations were awkward and just didn't flow well for this one. <shrug>

I'm not denying that your correct, but I don't think that we have any place to question the quality of subs.
    Could we do better? No
In any case, the episode was so amazing that anything that was left to be desired in the subs were balanced out. The quality of the subs weren't enough to make me enjoy the episode any less

    Concerning [AonE]_Naruto_124

We should really just be glad that we still have Naruto to watch.....
"Our hearts are full of memories but not all of them reflect the truth. The heart isn't a recording device. Even important memories change with time. They warp or fade, leaving us with but a shadow of what we hoped to remember." 天の道を行き、全てを司る。これは僕の世界。

Also AssertnFailure said, I'm very picky about the stuff that im a big fan of. I usually download AonE later when I am stockpiling episodes, because they are supposed to be higher quality, but this time... lets just hope next weeks is better.

    [EDIT]:

Bah, sorry guys (admins/translators). I just checked the manga and both the episodes and the manga has the same translation.

I'm not sure how it is in Japanese but in Korean when translated to American sentences, its read in backwards. I suspect that this is what happened in the translationi? Could you guys confirm it? Bah I feel bad now, sorry about my lack of researching and then pointing out the "problem." If you guys could explain it to me, I'll be very thankful.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't want this to be a complain or anything but for some reason this epsidoes translations weren't as good as the other episodes.

There was times where Lee said "Bokua?" which translates to "I"m?" right? Some parts it said "I" instead of "I'm." That kinda bugged me. Springtime of youth sounded better as well and in the end where the sand genins came. You guys sort of switched it around.

Temari says: "Ally of the Konoha?"
    Kankuro says: "Sand"
    Gaara says: "Shinobi"

but in AonE's translation, Kankuro says ninja first and then Gaara says sand. So yes, it sort of shows that you guys did the translation a lot faster than the other episodes.
I just wanted to point out the mistake. But in no doubt that so far you guys have provided excellent quality subs. I have your collection btw and will keep collecting your subs as long as Naruto's aired.

Good luck onto your future subs and once again, just wanted to show some feedbacks and my opinion. Good day.

    RE: Concerning [AonE]_Naruto_124

Japanese sentences almost always directly translate into english backwards. Thats why sometimes you'll see a sentence trail off into 2 groups of text, but a distinguishable word that was said during the first group of text might not show up in the subs until the second group of text. It's a tough job of the translator to keep these significant words with the subs that correspond to them, but also keep it grammatically correct in our language.

Yea I know. Didn't mean for me to sound like as if translating is an easy job. Immigrating from Korea over here to US, I had to help my parents translate everything in korean. I know how it feels and how much work it requires.

So then, whos fault is it? Its obviously not the animators fault right? I still dont get why when Kankuro says Sand (Soona?) it comes up as Ninja. Could you explain?

    RE: Concerning [AonE]_Naruto_124

in japanese its said "suna no shinobi", and in english its said "ninjas of the sand". The same way gaaras name is "sabaku no gaara", but in english it wouldnt make any sense saying "desert gaara", so we say "gaara of the desert". You could still keep the first phrase in tact by saying "sand ninjas" but that doesn't sound as good as "ninjas of the sand". Understand?

They had another 'bad one' not too long ago... I chalked it up to the crazyness of the show getting licensed and the split from ANBU

Hopefully this is only temporary... DB's getting better and better and Id hate to break up my '[Anbu&AonE]Naruto-001-123'

Err, that isn't what I asked for. I already said I know why it works backwards. All I'm wondering is when Kankuro said "Soona" the translation should've been sand but it was ninja.
Is it just me that doesn't understand this? Eh "shrug" ok w/e.

I understand perfectly but I perfer grammatical translations as well instead of just direct translations

if only 1 person said that sentence instead of split in to three people the translation would likely be spot on for y ou. However it wasnt so it seems awkward if you only translate on a per person accord.

Doing this whoever for the particular scene slightly ruins the effect Kishmoto was trying to create with the Sand nins saying the phrase in unison

Mgslee I get what your saying. I guess it basically comes down to preferences of how things are translated? Eh.. Yea I'm over it.

    RE: Concerning [AonE]_Naruto_124

dude.....its because all 3 of the sand guys were saying parts of one large sentence......and so thats why they were given words that might not have literally been said by them individually, but make up the full sentence they were saying. I agree its awkward when you know what they say and it doesnt show it in the text below them, but thats what happened.

I'm the opposite, I find if the translation is too literal, it begins looking too much like random words like some bad video game translation.

I prefer that the MEANING of what is said is translated into something that makes sense within the context of english, otherwise the coolness of what was being said is lost in the jumble.

That said, for some reason, I just prefer seeing Lee saying "springtime of youth...I'm in the springtime of youth!!" that "I'm enjoying my youth." since the former is just sounds like one of those Gai-isms.
