Not quite... current homologated Group N cars (Lancer Evolution and WRX STi) are, at best, 50:50 torque split. Most of the time, the torque is front biased. Drifting is only meant for cars with rear-wheel drive trains. It is possible to do it in a 4 wheel drive car such as a Lan Evo, but this is because the majority of the car's power, while distributed to all four wheels, is still most powerful in the rear two wheels.
the only 2 notable 4 Wheel drives in initial D that are rear biased are Nakazato's BNR32 and "Arm of God's" BNR34.. which have a 30:70 torque split from gears 1-3.. and a 0:100 torque split in gears 4 and higher.. And remember, Nakazato doesn't drift (well, not in the cartoon anyway.. he does in the up and comming chinese Live action movie)
and in my view, there's a question whether you actually need that handbrake... when a mate's AE82 Corolla (with the 4A-GE engine) keeps up with an VT SS commodore (think Pontiac GTO.. with 4 doors) because they were both driving on curvy roads, i do question the use of the handbrake..Originally posted by: lasaire

what they say about drifting in the first 2 stages is fairly correct. havn't seen the movie so i can't comment on that. Stage 4 does stretch it a little, but i'm sure given a well trained driver (Dori Dori...) he can do at least the 3 wheel drift that Takumi does in ep 2

Also i know for a fact that 4wheeldrive cars are VERY HARD to drift with and i doubt any american car out there right now(mustang aside) will be able to pull off a drift. Rear wheel just makes life so much easier.

does anybody know how much longer we are gonna have to wait for subs of ep 15 and 16...
id say about another year....................jk
it usually comes out a few days after the raws are released, but the initial d subs in the past have taken longer (sometimes over a month later)
it just comes down to when the subbers are actually finished, so there is no certain date for it
