about 7 cowboys that rescue a mexican village from bandits.
i know samurai 7 is adopted from the novel which is written a long time ago right?

Magnificent 7 is base from the novel Samurai 7
and then there is the movie the seven samurai
so did the movie itself admit to adopting the storyline?
What I heard is that whoever was responsible for making the magnificent 7 liked the idea of the seven samurai but didn't think it would have mainstream appeal in America, so they made it cowboys instead.
I haven't seen any of these movies or the anime, but my lecturer went on about it during a lecture at uni for a while (he had a tendency to ramble off...he started off using the magnificent 7 film as an example of something, but when he found no-one had seen it he went on to describe the history )
If you watch the magnificent 7 in the openeing credits you'll see it says that its baised on Akira Kurosowa's Seven Samurai, something you'll also see in the credits of Samurai 7

Yeah, hollywood has done a few remakes of samurai movies as westerns. Akira Kurosawa's "Yojimbo" was remade as "A Fist Full of Dollars".
