I can't really choose a favorite one, I like lee because he is hard working and has said one of the coolest quotes ("hard work will beat even a genius").
I like Gaara because he always keeps it calm, talks little but is way dangerous.
I like Neji, simply because he kicks alot of ass and is always acting like he knows it all and stuff... you know, he is your tipical "too cool" guy.
And Shikamaru, because that's like me inside the anime, everything he says I can relate to, and he thinks and acts exactly the way I do... he is just me (except im not that smart).
I can't really choose one of the four, I like them all.
my favorite character would have to be Gai when he told Lee he would die with him if his operation failed

After they finnish the Naruto anime I hope we get a prequel, because the 1st Hokage is one of my favorites, his "Birth of the Trees" is the coolest jutsu so far in the anime, and that is by far.

Neji is pretty cool, and Lee is too, but neither of them is quite as cool as Shikamaru.
I like that Shika isn't trying to prove anything. He's just there, doing the best he can with the situations that are thrown at him. It doesn't make for interesting backstory or anything like that, but he's way more stable than the other characters and acts as a counterbalance to them.
