well, a few things.
first, a time jump would not be the most rich addition to the naruto storyline. main reason for time jump seems to be so we can get to the "badass" versions of naruto, sakura, and sasuke, but in doing so, a lot of more subtle and meaningful moments (the ones that give real meaning to the dramatic battles in the first place) would be lost.
second. kishimoto deciding not to reveal anything about kakashi is fine, i think. can't give away all the secrets, now can you? i think it keeps things fresh and exciting wondering when different parts of the story will be uncovered. plus, it would be out of place. now is not kakashi's spotlight time.
third, the timing does seem convenient but for naruto it's most likely so he can grow up and his abilities/potentials will be matured. same way you don't pick fruit of the tree that is still in infancy.

And i think Kabuto being a spy for Akatsuki is a little too far fetched... even if he definitely has something up is sleeves. So it's probably your second guess... i hope Kishimoto will come up with a good explanation for this later in the story.
perhaps kabuto is a spy for jiraiya, in page 08 of chapter 237, he says that orochimaru changed bodies, HOW DOES HE KNOW THAT, only kabuto and orochimaru know about this, or he snuck in and watched himself, qienh wouyld be weird cause if he can do this he could have assasinated him, dunno but could someone share a different point of view to see how does he know.
If you didnt see the 3 year timejump the day orochimaru jumped into that other guys body then you dont have the foresight to make predictions. Kishimoto drops some great suprises (mainly fighting stuff) but you can see this sort of stuff coming a year away.
'You will not even lay a finger on my forehead.' is heavy foreshadowing...
Tsunada becoming the 5th, Time jump, and the team not dieing are just duh's... they dont need to be foreshadowed to know whats going to happen.
Rock Lee showing up out of no where to fight in the last arc... that was a suprise.
I look forward to it... there is no doubt Naruto needs to mature some, Sakura needs to become usefull, and Sasuke needs to figure out where his path will lead him.
I hear people bitch just watching Naruto learn how to summon a frog for a few chapters... if he had to learn a dozen jutsus at the same pace you guys would go nuts, even if it was broken up by fighting some ninjas. The stories would be good but when you know that Akatsuki is around the corner it would drive you nuts. Just like the stupid running arc in the anime drives you nuts knowing Naruto and Sasuke are supposed to be having their fight and Sasuke should have left Konoha already... hell he could be in the barrel by now.
I don't think the characters will change, we have seen all the main characters (save shino/ten ten) change because of Naruto in the last few arcs. They wont change again... its time for them to power up and get to ass kicking.
Naruto
This chapter left me very curious about Jiraiya. How the heck did he get that kind of information? In all honesty, I don't trust his character fully anymore, his knowledge is too convenient. I would predict an interesting plot twist if there wasn't already too much evidence against it.
Jiraiya is a sannin. He sees all. Knows all. Or something. Anyways, this was a good chapter. Naruto's character shines brightly, and I can't help but think more highly of it, because of that.
But, I want to see Sasuke's progression w/Oro more than Naruto/Jiraiya and Sakura/Tsunade. Simply because you know he hates Oro's guts deep down, and is only using him. Jiraiya and Naruto, you know get along very well (kind of..) and Sakura/Tsunade will be easy, because of how obidient Sakura is.
remember how tsunade had that jacket that said "gambling"? well, i guess you can see taht sakura is gonna be wearing that "fighting spirit" jacket like tsunade soon.... Time jump = super cool. i hope naruto gets a new set of clothes, anything thats better than a trashy orange jumpsuit. (even a black jumpsuit would be fine)
i dont think it will be a full 3 years later time jump, most likely we will see some of the training because it makes it more interesting to the reader and easier for kishimoto since he can forget about the story for a couple of chapters. also didnt kakashi say that if sasuke relied too much on the cursed seal he wouldnt grow as much? i think after 3 years naruto will be on level with sasuke and both be around ANBU level since they have craploads of potential. I think naruto will keep jis jumpsuit but it will an upgraded jumpsuit.
If there is a time jump, which it certainly looks like there will be, Im honestly more interested in what happens to all the side characters during that time than Team 7. Konohamaru and co. will have graduated (i think), Shikamaru will have been leading missions, there will have been 6 more chuunin exams, etc. I wouldnt be surprised to see a few of the others such as Neji, Shino, and Tenten to be Chuunins or ANBU. They will all be about 16-18 give or take, so Ill bet relationships will have begun to form. Akamaru will probably grow some and be closer to the size of Kiba's mom's dog. We might see something involving Hinata and Hanabi, now that Hanabi will be 3 years older and probably out of the acadamy.
My guess is that he will spend the next 4 chapters to finish wrapping everything up in town and then use volume 28 as a gradual time jump. Volume 29 will start the next arc 2.5 to 3 years later.

wow, the manga could shift in any direction now. lots of different things and hopefully it would be good.

But soo predictible. Anyway, I hope the time jump won't be a straight 3-year jump and thousands of flashbacks, but more as one say : from time to time stops in the time jump to see what happens in their training and in Konoha.
Plus, I really want to know how Neji, Chouji, Rock Lee, Shino (even if he isn't a secondary character), Gaara, Temari and Shikamaru are doing in the meantime. I can't imagine Kishimoto skipping these guys.

I dont know about soul transfer thing but i like the ide of Kabuto being a spy for akatsuki cause you know that Kabuto is hiding his true power,his is not the type that would be fine with just being oros slave.
If he were a spy then it would make sense him staying with oro for so long and hiding his real power.
I would like if Kabuto was a akatsuki member or trying to become one cause then he would have to be scary good ninja, i like his characther and he would much better as a bad guy then Oro.
you're probably right kabuto would be a great badguy. and i dont think even oro knows about his true power so it would make sense for him to be an akatsuki spy. but the interesting things is how all the characters will turn out after the time jump(s) i guess there will be a number of small time jumps to see their progression rather than one big time jump.
great chapter showed even more of the similarity between naruto and jiraiya. i cant wait for the next chap :'(

um guys how do u know that there will be a time jump? i prolly missed that but he might make a couple of episodes on some cool techniques like seeing how naruto learns it and all (something like the rasengan maybe). and it would be really cool to see naruto + sakura + rocklee + neji and others as anbu
i havent bothered to read this thread yet, but im certain its been mentioned a thousand times already about the time jump. after seeing venu fly-trap-badass-guy emerge after the naruto sasuke fight i had this feeling that they were watching everything. zabuza fight, chuunin exam. every where naruto is, they are. but my question is, why wait? they have the skill to take him almost any time. do they want to watch him mature more? why would they do that if its the kyuubi not naruto they want. or is there something more impotant then naruto that need 3 years to get or do? but my greatest question is: will all the useles characters become get some development in the next years?

We need i think a cool bad guy and Oro isnt enough anymore and so i hope we will se someone in Akatsuki that can be a bigger problem than Oro for Naruto and cop. Oro have survived to many deaths and i hope Kabuto or someone in akatsuki kills him soon.

as said before, my thoughts on the 3 year thing will be partial jumps, then see some significant stuff, get to see naruto and jiraiya, the other 11 genins, sasuke included.

im glad that jiraiya is training naruto, jiraiya is one of my favourites. be seeing more of him.
