Well, I was browsing stuff online and came across this as the DVD+box has been released (10/25/05). Since I didn't catch the subs way back when, this is directed at anyone who saw this:

Is it buy-worthy? I've read over the reviews on here and other sites, and most people (90% or so, it seems) like it hands down. So, considering that I like what I've read, should I skip trying to track down months-old-possibly-non-existent BT files to check it out and just start the box set?

Well, me personally, I believe this is one of the best anime period! The music/soundtrack is awesome as well. If you want, you can just download the episodes on www.boxtorrents.com. I loved the use of colors, animation, music, and plot. For me, it was the best anime I've seen so in 2004-05 so far. If you have read the Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, then you will realize that the anime stays true to the story for about 90%. There are things that differ, one obviously being the time setting of the story. I believe it is a good buy if you would like to add a kick ass anime to your collection.

EDIT: There is a noteable hint of homosexuality in the anime, in case some haven't noticed. There is nothing wrong with that, my brother and I just noticed the subtle hint of it after watching the second to last episode.

i honestly think gankutsuo is one of the best adaptations of an alexandre dumas novel, period. sure they change a few elements of the storyline here and there but this series does what a lot of other movies or shows fail at doing-- which is to capture the spirit of dumas' writing. the unusual animation is a bit jarring at first but your eyes get used to it so it doesn't detract from paying attention to the story.

Woohoo, I'll be buying this sometime this weekend. Seeing as nobody was seeding when I tried to give it a try last night >_>

I wanted to start a new box set anyways

Watched this recently, really enjoyed it. Good music, great plot, great characters. I thought the way they animated the clothes was awesome. I don't like mecha much, so I'm happy that the show didn't focus too much on that. One of my favourites out of the ones I've watched recently. I didn't know it was an adaption before the 15th episode or so, never read the book. I guess the title should have tipped me off..
