web page layout

that is just merely an interface, not a complete layout.

anyway, using shadows on a website isn't really my thing. personally, i prefer clean, simple, and 2d styled layouts.

eg. this

that is my old website layout.

try not to rely too much on blending options.
and also be careful about gradient drop shadows, especially if you plan to incorporate transparencies

The images dont load in firefox, might want to look into that. Always good to make sure your website works in all browsers.

I don't like the 3dness. its just like popping outta the screen effect doesn't suit a page. i'd go 2d aswell.

woah......you're right......they're just <img> tags though so i dont know why mozilla would have problems with it.....but its messin up on mine as well......

and i know its not a broken link cause IE still shows it....
weird.....

this is why dreamweaver > notepad

jing: there's nothing wrong with added depth to a site.....its all about the execution

EDIT: oh i know why....its because you used backslash instead of forwardslash for your image urls

web page layout

it think it looked cool but that gradient thing or whatever it is doesnt look all that good, you should probably skip that.

It looks too photoshoped, and doesn't feel like an actual page. The problem is color choice, and blending with the page. The actual layoutis fine, but with the shadows the interface doesn't feel like it's part of the page. Not like this is easy to tell in the first place as you only have a white background. Keep working at it.

RE: web page layout

usually the way i go about designing a website is to
1) open up photoshop, and create a new canvas thats 1024x768 (or 800x600 whichever you feel is more appropriate)
2) experiment with background designs, columns, header graphics/logos, color schemes, etc. until ive filled the page with a complete look that i like (also while taking into account the practicality of converting it to an html page, quality vs filesize, appearance from different size monitors, and many other factors)
3) chop up the layout using the knife tool in such a way that the contents would fit nicely into a table (or div layouts if you use css)
4) using dreamweaver or some other html editing tool, remove images that act as placeholders for text content (and if they arent a solid color, then make it a bg for the cell/div instead).
5) then put in your content, set up your links, duplicate the page a few times and repeat
