I think that's the point. If you look at the original Garfield comics, Jon reacts as if he can hear Garfield's thoughts, but in reality Jon is talking to himself and imagining that Garfield is in the conversation. Kind of sad when you think about it like that.

The intention is that Realfield is a real cat. Kraco is saying it's not realistic because he just sits in the same position and never moves, as if he's dead and stuffed.

I like no Garfield better. It's much sadder to see Jon talking to himself than to an animal.

Edit to below: I wasn't trying to argue anything, just clarifying what Kraco meant. Which I agree with.
