I think this same exact question has been answered but what you have to do is uninstall the codecs your using and either get a new version or reinstall the same ones.

alternately (for the explorer prob), turn off the "thumbnail" modes, "web view" and "preview media content" modes globally. Any time it's trying to preview or precalculate stuff about that and doesn't have the right codecs, you can expect bad results. The right codecs installed treat the problem, where telling windows explorer to stfu will reduce the symptoms of it.
