How to fit more on a DVD

Finally got my DVD burning to work. But i can only fit 3 episodes on each DVD. Everyone told me this would be the case. However, my friends brother (who is now studying in Japan), who got me into naruto when he sent me a burned DVD of it, was able to fit TWELVE episodes on one DVD. They were still high quality, and i know this is possible because i have a few official animes where 6+ episodes are fit onto each DVD. Does anyone know how to manage this? Burning 30 DVDs for naruto wouldnt be very cost effective.

does he have a dual-layer burner if so that could explain it. the key to burning alot of eps is reducing the bitrate to acceptabel levels. use tmpgenc or nerovision to achieve this. Then burn the files onto DVD. i reccomend investing in a divx compatible dvd player though as it will save you time and eventually money. fit 24 eps into 1 dvd so you use less cds and your quality remains high. remember key to putting more files onto a dvd is reducing the bitrate till its still watchable but small.

he doesnt have a dual layer burner...and i dont know if it has to do with size or not...in avi format each episode takes less than a fourth of a gig, so on a 4.6 GB dvd i should be able to fit 17 (with a divx dvd player) but i think its the minutes as all DVD+-Rs have a max of 120min of playing time right?

even if you did have a dual layer burner, is there even dual layer media available yet? there is a hack or something you can do to a rather cheap dvd burner that makes it into dual layer burner, but they havent been able to test it because they havent gotten a hold of the media yet

i can get three episodes doing vcd on a cdr using Tmpgenc to do the encoding because nero sucks at encoding. If your dvd player is vcd compatible you can get up to 11 episode using nero to burn them after encoding.

For more technical info and guides go to this site, they have great forums that discuss what you are trying to find out with lots of people with the same problems. I highly recommend great place for info on burning all different formats.
