Author Icon trouble

I keep trying upload a new Author icon but I keep getting a message that there's file error or it's the wrong formate. the file is a 8KB GIF. If anyone can offer any suggestions please do. thanks

images for avatars can only be in .jpg format.

i believe ciber or wilik (or whoever it was) has already implemented the same coding in the page where you can edit your profile, just below the default avatar selection.

i haven't tried it out myself but i trust that it works.
