So, uh, is MZ a sequel to other Macross series'? What are all the other Macross's, and how do they tie into each other?

Macross Zero is a prequile to what the U.S. know's as robotech or Macross in japan. All of this stuff happens before rick hunter and all that zentradi jazz. But the funny part is these prtotype VF-0's look more advanced than the VF-1's, lol. Hope this helps.
