Nightwish kind of lost me with Once but Century Child is the best album I own. Period.

    Ever Dream is my deity.

Luca Turilli's Dreamquest ( I freakin' love it! Have a sample! ), Edenbridge, After Forever, Within Temptation, Tristania, Lacuna Coil ( kind of repetitive but I really like Heaven's A Lie ) and Dark Moor ( think they changed vocalist but the old songs by them are still awesome ).

There's a lot more, but that's what comes to mind at the moment.

Ever Dream is indeed one of the best Nightwish songs, as is Heaven's a Lie for Lacuna Coil, but Nai, how come you do not like Once?! I can't believe our tastes actually go in different directions for once (lol, get it?)! I love that album :S

Did you actually like their new stuff? I couldn't get into it... maybe I was just spoiled by the old stuff and expected much more, or something.

Oh well - the new album was okay, but I was never really a fan of Jon to begin with. Being a satanic homophobic murderer just isn't cool, so his suicide doesn't bother me at all.

    Back on topic (or rather, what everyone is talking about right now): Gothic Opera Metal is okay... but... um... I'm not sure about Nightwish. "I Wish I had an Angel" was pretty good... the music video made me laugh (because of the guitarists' expressions)... but I'm not sure what all the hype is about. Lacuna Coil... pretty good too. I can't stand any other gothic-opera singing bands, though. >_o;

Nightwish is not gothic in the least. And you are only seeing it as "hype" because they more recently made it big in the US, before, when they were comparatively smaller, nobody really saw them as a hyped up band (the american effect yay!). :S

As for new Dissection, well, never liked the band that much anyway. Jon's private life doesn't concern me as long as the music is good, and it was only so-so in my eyes. Jon's younger brother Emil also has a band - Deathstars - which is on the move upwards (I just love it when bands you like suddenly for some reason gets a big break, in the form of a hit or something, and then everybody worships them - fucking posers). That band may be considered overblown but hey, they are still pretty good. I think I recommended them earlier in the thread..

I'm just now getting into them, I got the DVD and Mahi Kali is like my favorite track on it. I know that one's a new song, I don't know about Elizabeth Bathory. I havent been able to spend time wth their back catalogue yet so I haven't heard Reinkaos

Reinkaos, the third and last album, is more like melodic death metal while the first 2 albums are more extreme black/death metal and considered legendary in the eyes of many.

It just failed to strike me on the same emotional level as the previous albums. I think the main reason why I was so disappointed was because it was hyped up to extreme levels in my mind. When it didn't even come close to Century Child I was naturally extremely disappointed.

None of the songs really appealed to me either. I found the best ones were Planet Hell and Ghost Love Score and that was mainly due to their epic nature. None struck me as hauntingly beautiful or particularly well written. Tuomas just didn't live up to his standards on that front.

Is your bass player's name really "Viktor Klavenhoof"? God.... that's the coolest name I've ever seen, seriously.

Terra for some reason, your band reminds me of the part in Clerks where they get they get Jay's cousin who sings Beserker. I think he was from Sweden too.

Stone Sour's new album is really good. I really like Corey's vocals, his style reminds me a little of Maynard's from Tool. In the way that Corey also has both great harmonic and screaming capabilities as well as the thing between singing and screaming that I can't really describe. I'm not saying that he is as good as Maynard, cause that would be blesphamy and some divine force would surely smite me.

If you give the album a chance, pay special attention to 30/30-150 and Through Glass since those songs define the sound of the entire album.

Through Glass is a terrible song, and Corey Taylor sounds nothing like Maynard. Come on.

Heretic Azazel is right. Although I'm not a huge fan of Tool, they sound nothing like Stone Sour.

I also saw Stone Sour at the Family Values Tour (worst mistake of my life... KoRn sucks) and I can tell you right now... none of their songs reminded me of Tool or Maynard.

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. I don't feel like arguing but I don't mention anywhere in my post that Stone Sour sound like Tool.

I just started listening to Mastodon's album "Blood Mountain". It's got some real potential. Check out the track "Capillarian Crest", it's fucking crazy. I have gotten a weird feeling from the album so far, it feels like a mix of Meshugga, Isis, At the Gates... and Pink Floyd.

    Totally worth a listen.

EDIT: I meant Capillarian Crest. Also check out Bladecatcher, it's instrumental and has awesome drums.

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!! I've found one of the best bands in the world.

    PORCUPINE TREE

Check out their album In Absentia. It's totally fucking awesome. I can't even describe the music you have to listen to it for yourself.

    Porcupine Tree is cool.

Mastodon.. I never really saw the appeal. And on top of that the first single from Blood Mountain I don't care for.

I'm going to Dragonforce saturday. I haven't heard any songs from the band, but my boyfriend says they're great, so I think that counts for something. Just hope I'm not wasting any money on it. Wacken was a waste of money as well.
