Nightwish rules, one of my favorite bands ever, loved them since '98. Too bad many people are calling them sellouts now because they have been getting more attention. People suck.

Nightwish kind of lost me with Once but Century Child is the best album I own. Period.
Ever Dream is my deity.
Luca Turilli's Dreamquest ( I freakin' love it! Have a sample! ), Edenbridge, After Forever, Within Temptation, Tristania, Lacuna Coil ( kind of repetitive but I really like Heaven's A Lie ) and Dark Moor ( think they changed vocalist but the old songs by them are still awesome ).Originally Posted by mage
There's a lot more, but that's what comes to mind at the moment.

Ever Dream is indeed one of the best Nightwish songs, as is Heaven's a Lie for Lacuna Coil, but Nai, how come you do not like Once?! I can't believe our tastes actually go in different directions for once (lol, get it?)! I love that album :S
It just failed to strike me on the same emotional level as the previous albums. I think the main reason why I was so disappointed was because it was hyped up to extreme levels in my mind. When it didn't even come close to Century Child I was naturally extremely disappointed.Originally Posted by Terracosmo
None of the songs really appealed to me either. I found the best ones were Planet Hell and Ghost Love Score and that was mainly due to their epic nature. None struck me as hauntingly beautiful or particularly well written. Tuomas just didn't live up to his standards on that front.

I'll create a topic about this and spam you further once we get our demo out.
Is your bass player's name really "Viktor Klavenhoof"? God.... that's the coolest name I've ever seen, seriously.
Lol, I'll be sure to tell him that![]()
If you like Opeth, Tool and Porcupine Tree, I highly suggest you get into King Crimson. They're a band best known for inspiring quite a few of the better modern rock bands (Maynard cites them as a main source of inspiration), and they've found a way to stay just out of the spotlight while enjoying a solid following.
If you want something with a harder sound (most Tool-like) try their last album, "The Power to Believe". Very interesting chord and pattern stuff there, too. Their earlier album, "Thrak", has a Porcupine Tree feel to it... or rather, the other way around. The 80's stuff is probably their most complex, but the 80's vibe is pretty strong and that might put you off. The 70's albums are also strongly recommended, probably the best of them being "Red", "Starless and Bible Black" or "In The Court of the Crimson King".
