Dream Theater is more prog-rock than metal, though Train of Thought went hard as fuck.

Home is my favorite Dream Theater song. and Jon Myung, Mike Portnoy, John Petrucci, Jordan Rudess... fuck, they would stomp Dragonforce's ass if they decided to play ridiculously fast. Infinitely talented musicians.

If you mean like 80's old school thrash you can't go wrong with Exodus and Slayer

You guys should check out this funny clip of a black metalist on the Austrian equivalent of American Idol, "singing" a classic Naglfar track.

Deicide's new CD, The Stench of Redemption, is their best in years. YEARS. Go buy 500 copies NOW (if you love Satan)

Some metal bands I listen to:

    Bloodbath
    The Red Chord
    Children of Bodom
    Fear Factory
    Ministry
    Mudvayne
    Cannibal Corpse
    Opeth
    Strapping Young Lad
    Atheist
    Gwar

I nominate The Red Chord as the best metal band of the 21st century so far.

I know many of you know them but I want to show you the awesomeness of the band known asDRAGONFORCE!

Dragonforce - "Through the Fire and Flames"

Dragonforce - "Operation Ground and Pound"

God, what's with everyone's love for Dragonforce? Yeah, they play fast -- but the vocals can't keep up.

Everytime I hear a song by them lately, I cringe. "The Future of Metal"? I certainly hope not.

Well for some reason they have gotten a lot of american publicity lately, and as always when something hits the US, it gets blown up to ridiculous proportions. Personally I had a period where I loved DragonForce to death, and I still cherish a few of their songs very highly, but that was all from the first CD - Valley of the Damned.

The problem with DF is that the music is so fucking repeative. The first album was a masterpiece and it's own way groundbreaking, but after that it's gotten a bit silly I admit.

I love the guys though, and the vocalist is a nice guy (talked a bit with him online). And the song "Starfire" still makes me cry.

Ahaha I like Haggard, really nice band. Keeps it classical with a medieval theme, love the Medieval era.

The singer, Jon Nodvedt, killed himself a couple of weeks ago.

I listen to pretty much everything now but when I was younger (~'92 to '97) I used to listen to nothing but heavy metal. Favourites at the time were White Zombie, Pantera, Sepultura, Megadeath, Metallica, Ozzy. I also listened to Manson but I'm not sure if you can call him metal...

White Zombie was by far my favourite. Even now Astro-Creep: 2000 is an amazing album. If you haven't listened to this album then you're really missing out. I have Rob Zombie's first solo album, Hellbilly Deluxe, but I was a little disappointed. Despite still being pretty good, I felt it didn't quite match up to Astro or La Sexorcisto.

EDIT: Rammstein's stuff is also pretty good, from what I've heard

Now, Haggard is my favorite band, but Nightwish is fucking amazing too, especially live. I love metal bands with good female singers (any suggestions?). It's too bad almost no one in USA has heard of these bands. Check it.

Nightwish rules, one of my favorite bands ever, loved them since '98. Too bad many people are calling them sellouts now because they have been getting more attention. People suck.
