Kitkat if you still are in need for some light music try out Rhapsody - Dawn of victory and Symphony of enchanted lands. Soft light power metal with alot of symphonic elements.

Yeah what PSJ said is the standard religion about that band. Those are the best two discs, and Emerald Sword is with no doubt in mind their best song.

Just went and listened to that one, since I don't remember track names, just numbers. Yes, AWESOME song.

Another band that has me hooked at the moment is Windir. http://www.windir.no/ If you want to check them out.

METAL!!! \m/

Dudes... metal really isn't all that great... I mean there are maybe a dozen decent tracks out of a dozen or so albums from various artists but nobody really rocks the house anymore. I don't consider Linkin Park to be metal, and Metallica hasn't done much for me with their more recent music.... Bands like Staind and Biskit just stick way too close to the same formula and I often struggle to tell their songs apart from one another.

Give me classic rock any day. Back when bands where bold enough to break the mold and not give a shit about what people said. Zepp, Jimi, Floyd, Doors >> all.

Humans are different from animals. We must die for a reason. Now is the time for us to regulate ourselves and reclaim our dignity. The one who holds endless potential and displays his strength and kindness to the world. Only mankind has God, a power that allows us to go above and beyond what we are now, a God that we call "possibility".

Says the all-knowing metal pro who doubtlessly knows about all bands, all metal styles, everything about the music and so on and so forth. Only by being a master such as masamuneehs can you fully realize that metal in fact isn't very great. Thank you.

This only gets better. Can it be that he is about to namedrop a few sucky mainstream bands such as Linkin Park & Metallica?

I don't consider Linkin Park to be metal, and Metallica hasn't done much for me with their more recent music....
Well what do you know! How in the name of the seven hells did I figure that out?
Also, nobody considers Linkin Park to be metal.

Bands like Staind and Biskit just stick way too close to the same formula and I often struggle to tell their songs apart from one another.
OH, THE GRAND EXAMPLES!
Well, maybe if Staind and Biskit actually were METAL... they'd belong in your sentiment?

Give me classic rock any day. Back when bands where bold enough to break the mold and not give a shit about what people said. Zepp, Jimi, Floyd, Doors >> all.
Jesus fucking christ. You barge in here and tell us that metal sucks by giving us names of some of the most mallcore & publically known bands ever to have existed and then round it off by giving us some suggestions on melorock.

You, dear sir, don't know SHIT about what metal is and are about a 1000 times to early to tell us what is good and not. Now stick to your radio and your old rock recordings, and learn what the fuck you are talking about before you attempt to stir up unnecessary troubles again.

METAL!!! \m/

After that post it is clearly that you have never tried any significant metal. To name Linkin Park, Bizkit and Staind as your examples show how little you know.

And saying that back when those guys played they didn't give a shit about what people think and played what they wanted. Guess what, metal bands do the same, real ones anyway. Maybe you should test some real metal the suggestions in here are good enough for you to try.

Anorexia Nervosa, Gamma Ray, Ensiferum, Elvenking, Iron Maiden. All diffrent flavours of great metal i suggest you try some out before you speak. If you still don't enjoy metal i can't help you. If that's the case your musical taste is obviously broken so keep the negative talk about metal out of here, this thread is for us who appreitiate the genre.

With that said i'll let you people have taste of some old hard rock the predecesors of metal if you will and they do indeed wipe the floor with all those bands listed by masamuneehs.

Deep Purple. Try out Machine head, great album. Highway Star and Smoke on the Water are the most memorable tracks on this album and Smoke on the Water got one of if not the most famous Riff ever.

EDIT: Terra was quicker, masamuneehs you do right in reading both and take notes to.

METAL!!! \m/

It saddened me to read masemune's post also because it proves that some people believe that the "fuck that, I'll do what I want to do" attitude is gone.

The only difference is that nowadays you need to turn off your TV & your radio set and actually GET INTO the music to find what it's about.
20 years ago, hardrock & the early heavy metal was much more commercial than it is today... people could hear bands like Sabbath & Zeppelin everywere. Metal isn't everyday music anymore. To "cover that up" people believe that the heirs of oldschool metal is mallcore and nu metal. That is just -wrong- on soooo many levels.

God, I could go on and on about this til I turn wrinkly and die. But it just ain't worth it.

People suck.

Indeed. Thing were better back then.

I mean when you see a photo of Slipknot, which are supposed to be cool and evil and oh so extreme infront of a Virgin records tent in yellow and pink you just lose faith(Yes i have seen this, i would find the picture for you but i don't know where to look. I'll try anyway).

And what is even more sad is that appearently they are the new face of "metal" together with bands like Korn and System of a Down. Heck give me back the 80's Glam metal scene i would easily dress Glam if it made those money hungry morons of Slipknot and the alike dissappear.

Hehe yeah.

Good thing though, glam rock/metal is actually coming back more or less, what's with Motley's reunion and several new bands.
In fact experts are predicting that in a few years the glam scene might become "in" again.

Well I will just take this opportunity to thank PSJ for actually handling my inept and clueless post with some tact and actually taking the time to suggest a few metal bands that he likes.

Terra, you are still one of the best I've seen at ripping into people... but you're still at a loss when it comes to employing your critical analysis skills for helping others.

Was I just trolling for flames, was I trying to be the "all knowing music genius", or was I just trying to shake things up by waving a red flag in a pit of bulls?

I fail to see the logic in giving advice to someone who has already condemned metal as bad.
You expressed no wish to learn anything about metal, your post purely stated that metal isn't good.
That, my friend, is in no way deserving of my advice. Why give advice to a wall?
Also, if your intention was something other than flaming, you did extremely poorly.

The funniest thing about your most recent post is that you make it sound like you're the victim when it was you who just talked out of your ass for no apparent reason. I mean, what kind of moron says that an entire genre of music sucks and then states 4 bands out of which only one is actually metal? It's so obvious that you don't even know what you're talking about.

Right.. here we go... metal and associated noise

Ambeon
Blind Guardian
Cradle Of Filth
Demons and Wizards (which is a mixture between blind guardian and iced earth LITERALLY)
Dreadlock Pussy
Dream Theater
Evanescence (not fully metal either, in my opinion, but they're cool )
ICED EARTH
IRON MAIDEN
Kittie
Metallica
NIGHTWISH
Finntroll
Guano Apes (don't think if they're officially considered to be metal.. but I think they fit in here )
Kamelot
Nemesea
SEETHER (don't know if they fit in here, but they are SO awesome)
Sonata Arctica
SYMPHONY X
Tool
Warlock
WITHIN TEMPTATION
Yngwie Malmsteen

RIGHT...
list of many things the ones in caps are like... my uber ones

Blind Guardian is good and so is Demons and Wizards (heard their new album?).
Dream Theater is so-so, too much flashy instrumental for me. Iced Earth is okay, Iron Maiden is a given.
Metallica used to be good. Nightwish is one of my favorite bands. Finntroll rules!
Kamelot! The first metal band I bought an album of. Ownage.
Nemesea! Cool! I thought I was the only one who had heard this new band. I downloaded their album because "Mana" is a great title
Sonata is a great band, Symphony X, Within Temptation & Yngwie have their bits and pieces of good stuff.

Can't say anything else about the rest of the bands, some bands in particular make me cringe... such as Kittie & Dreadlock Pussy (what kind of a fucking name is that? lol)

METAL!!! \m/

well, I was buying the silent force, which is WT's latest album... and the guy in the record store went like: hey, if you are into that kind of music, listen to this...

so.. he shoved the nemesea cd in my hands, said they were new... and i listened... and I thought they sounded pretty good So... I got educated because of my record store so it's NOT downloaded! *gasps*

I've actually met Dreadlock Pussy in person . Me and a friend were just trying to go backstage, so we walked and wanted to see where the fences would be.... Thing was... there were no fences . So before we knew it, we stood right in front of those guys... With random people on the other side of fences (there WERE fences after all, silly us for not seeing them! ). We asked the guys "why are they behind the fences and not here, seeing as there's no obstruction to get here?" and they replied that we were probably smarter

Anyway, one thing about sonata arctica... they are cool.. but they have SO many lingual errors, it's hilarious... same as nightwish .. But it's all in good fun and even though their wording/pronounciation is off sometimes, it's still very good music *nods*

On Iced Earth, they are definately one of my favourites, but only with Barlow as the vocalist... Not too big a fan of owens and the guy they had in the beginning... Barlow rules... seriously... too bad he wanted to go and do something else...

WT is DEFINATELY improving lately... I knew their music for a bit when they first came out, but sometimes I've found flaws in her vocals. They are noticably improving, and the music and the atmosphere on the last album are awesome

Ambeon is one of Ayreon's projects. The singer has a beautiful voice.
Warlock is one of my latest discoveries. They are german, and they have a female lead singer who sings "normally" so no grunts or soprano voices... just normal singing So that's very very cool...

Sheesh! long post!

I didn't know about Ambeon actually! Then again I was never a big fan of Ayreon either.

I agree with you about Sonata's lingual errors, they really are hilarious, especially in the ballads... they are supposed to be emotional, yet sometimes you actually laugh. Kinda sad Hehe.
However I don't agree about WT. I feel that The Silent Force was a big step down, before they felt more unique and did more beautiful and atmospheric music... they took a step towards Evanescence this time around. Some people, mainstream-lovers in particular it seems, liked that. I didn't. Ah well.

Nemesea fills their void pretty nicely for me though. I expect much of these guys in the future.

And about Iced Earth I agree as well. I don't dislike Owens at all, but Barlow really -was- Iced Earth, his voice separated that band from many others.
