    To Barles, um, Apocalyptica covered Master of Puppets (the whole cd) but they also have original stuff. They use violins or cellos, or something.

    Yeah Apocalyptica! If I remember correctly, each of the band members is classically trained on cello, and their style is a unique mixing of classical and metal and...well, their own creativity. It's amazing the range of sounds they can get from their cellos to so closely mimic metal songs. As PossiblE mentionned, they also write original music which is quite musically complex and well worth the listen. One of my favourites is their cover of 'Refuse Resist' by Sepultura.

    yeah, now I remember them. They also did a tribute to undertow. It was...interesting. I'll have to check out their original material.

    And finally, the ones who are in love with melodic power metal of the Finnish school:

    Hah, that is so true. Can't say I'm a fan of HIM either.

    That was a great review, sums up my thoughts about the band quite well, although I don't think they sound as much as Sonata as you claim.

    I don't think anyone here listens to Mushroomhead (possibly my favourite metal band at the moment) but J Mann quit [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img]...damn, one of my favourite favourite bands and this happens...I can't see them being the same without both singers...they had a perfect balance dammit! Hopefully they'll be able to find a good replacement...

    Today I discovered a fucking awesome new band, Turisas. They play what they call "battle metal" though the exact definition would be some kind of power/folk with growls. They make really atmospheric music and it's truly great, with big choirs and whatnot. They sound a LOT like Bal-Sagoth. Which is a big + for me [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

    i was thinking about metal today, cos well, ive grown tired of my inflames collection and need something else fast and heavy, but not screamy (ala inflames), to play Quake3 to. need to keep my adrenaline going i guess. so any suggestions?

    DRAGONFORCE! Extreme power metal, about as fast and heavy as In Flames (well not quite as heavy) but clean vocals instead of growling. Try 'em, they kick infinite amounts of ass.
