I'm not to familiar with that band, what kind of metal do they play?

Static-X plays pretty straight forward metal in the same industrial vein as Ministry (which also happens to be their favorite band).
However, Static-X is a lot more commercial than Ministry is. It's another one of those bands which I find easy to listen to, but hard to really love.
Think of it as generic hardrock with techno elements, I suppose.
Haha, I know all about Metallica. Who doesn't? I like most of their music but it just doesn't really get to me. I'll be sure to check out Megadeth though.Originally posted by: PSJ
Hehe okey, anyway try out some Metallica(terribly overrated but a good place to start) and download Megadeth - Rust in peace. I think that will be to your liking
Has anyone ever heard of The Mars Volta? They're touring with SOAD so I checked them out last night. Their stuff's pretty good.
True, they are fairly commercial. I still love 'em though, because a lot of their songs hold history for me, if that makes any sense.Originally posted by: Terracosmo

Why do you guys hold non-commercial bands higher than commercial bands?
It's all music as far as I'm concerned.
Ah, the eternal question.
Well, the sound is different really - between commercial & non-commercial hardrock/metal. Which is why some music ends up being available to the larger masses, it's appeal is easier to confront but it isn't necessarily the main cup of tea for "real" metalheads (with "real" I mean metalheads who have been around for a long time). I'm not trying to say that commercial music is worse just because it is commercial, the sound is just different. I generally prefer bands which aren't as easily approached, so to speak. It's quite hard to explain. But of course, if I ever come across a commercial band which I find great - I don't mind if it is commercial. Only posers & younger wannabe metalheads do that. As you say, music is always music. Also, one of my favorite bands is Nightwish - which today is rendered a commercial band (though it wasn't when I started listening to them). They are still very good however.
Commercial bands seem so shallow, i have never truely appreciated a band that is known to be commercial. They tend to make their sound easy to listen to but many times lacking depth. I can't enjoy it for a longer period of time.
That's my opinion on it. I don't know about the rest.
EDIT: Terra said it so much better. What a suprise eh? Maybe i should add that i wouldn't discard a band that i liked just because they are commercial.

Because big shot record companies are brainwashing the masses through the radio stations and the stations are making a lot of money off this bullshit. It's not just all music, the people making the most money are pushing their no talent rap bullshit and fucking lip synching pop music. A real music fan would know how good their music makes them feel, they can appreciate talent, and the finest gems in the whole industry are bands that most people don't even know about, and that obscurity is appreciated because those bands aren't changing their style and playing and writing according to what will get them on MTV.
It's not to say plenty of commercial bands aren't good, but what you hear is typically the music the corporate moguls want you to hear. Enlighten yourself, listen to things from artists who don't make a lot of money because it's pretty obvious money isn't the driving factor for what they do.

holy shit. I think this bastard is goin to start a revolution.
btw, he's right, and he expressed exactly what I've been trying to convey for a few years. Cheers Azazel. You should try to find AgnostiA, you'd like them
Alright people, who's going to see this?

I think I'm going to try to snag tickets for the Toronto show. I absolutely adore Dream Theater, and I would love to see them in concert. Come to think of it, I haven't seen any of these bands in concert before. I think it will be a good time.
Listening to solos more than actual songs doesn't appeal very much to me. Somebody should limit how much solos DT can play in one show. From what i have heard they play to damn much of it.
The other bands i don't know exept Megadeth and Anthrax. I'm really not a big fan of thrash. What does the other bands play?
Fear Factory: Don't recall
Dillinger Escape Plan: Progressive (I think, I might have confused them with some other band... there are so many up and coming american bands now)
Nevermore: Progressive
Life of Agony: No idea
Symphony X: Power/Prog (great band)
Dry Kill Logic & Bobaflex: Sounds like crap and probably is too.
As for me I was at the swedish Metaltown festival today and saw 5 bands - Tiamat, Dark Tranquillity, Sentenced, Apocalyptica and Rammstein.
Suffice to say, I had the time of my life.
I like Dark Tranquillity and Rammstein.. Never listened to Apocalyptica, and never hear of the other two.. But they are probably good..
And that band "The 69 Eyes Devils" was really good.. thx for the recommending them..
EDIT: Terra come to IRC more
Dark Tranquillity kicks so much ass.

The 69 eyes kicks ass, Devils is the name of the latest album.
Sentenced are fucking kings. Their later works are better than their earlier in my opinion. They started out as a death metal band but changed their style to metal-ish depressive hardrock later on.
hahaha i forgot the exact name, so i went and copied the dir name.. and since i thought it was the "Paris kills" album i just assumed that Devils was a part of the group name..
But then again.. "Assumption is the mother of all fuckups"..
And about Sentenced.. That sounds disturbing.. "metal-ish depressive hardrock".. Almost sounds like an disease.. metal-ish depressive hardrock syndrom
well maybe i will download a newer album to find out just how that sounds like..
EDIT: ok we all know i don't have anything else to do anyways, so i got "Sentenced - The.Funeral.Album-Promo-2005-MiNT", "Sentenced-The_Cold_White_Light-Retail-2002-RDA" and "Sentenced-Crimson_(Digipack)-2000-SER"
The three best albums!
The Cold White Light is my favorite. I've cried while listening to that several times.
Be sure to read the lyrics.
The Funeral Album is my favourite. It got a little more edge and isn't as atmospheric as The Cold White Light.
So I listened to the new Static-X album, god did it blow. At one point I found them to be rather nice, but seriously, what the hell are they doing?
I found a great review which perfectly summed up my feelings about this release. Here.
Got a gift certificate from a friend for my birthday from CD Universe. Looking at Dark Tranquility, but the quality is so shitty on the website. Any reccomendations on some good CD's? Along the lines of Vintersorg, Falkenbach, Rhapsody, Abigor, Absurd, etc.
