I think Yamazaki is the new girl, that suddenly digs Katou like crazy.
It doesn't make any sense, unless Katou is dying right now, and won't revive at all (hardly possible, but I'd like that to happen).

in addition, if anyone has seen welcome to the NHK, two of the main characters there are satou and yamazaki-- i really doubt this is a coincidence on the manga-ka's part.
I've liked this fight - my main question now is what relationship will the vampire(s) have with the Gantz group after this? I mean, he did kind of save them all. And didn't they save him at one point way back when?

But it doesn't matter where they die, AFAIK. Gantz revives the player from the Gantz memory, the latest time the person was "backed up", so to speak.

Actually that is not quite accurate. There are two possibilities here. Either Kei could get the Tae-effect when being revived, with an erased memory oblivious of anything and everything or get could have the sakurai/katou-effect, remembering everything up until the point where he was struck down.
Since Gantz is actually concerned about what the fuck is going on in the world with all the stronger aliens and shit I doubt that Gantz will revive him oblivious, the best possible choice would be to make him a part of the group again.
But then again, our lovely mangaka likes fucking with us readers and he just loves making us dangle, so if you think about this aspect, reviving him stupid and in love is actually a possibility.
I just hope he comes back soon, he is the reason this manga is worth reading 'cause he's got some mad skills. Also he is the best person suited for the leader position. Katou is just stupid with a capital S. He doesn't consider the fact that they are in a war. Like Nishi said, he is the worst hypocrite.
