It's Hatake Kakashi, not Hayate. Assertn already answered the rest for you.
1. she was visiting Gekkou Hayate, but Hatake Kakashi was there (note that Kakashi is his given name, NOT his surname. same with Hayate)

Hayate was one of my favorite characters because he seemed so relaxed all the time and would just have a random cough here and there.

Yea when I first saw him and they ended the episode with him saying he wanted them all to do something.
I thought he was going to ask them to kill him cuz he had lung cancer or something stupid. Lol he definitely had some kind of serious illness, you could even see it in his eyes and under them. Even if he didn't die like that. I'd say he didn't have long left to live.
