Ebisu also means barbarian or savage.
and Ebisu is also I think in some kind of japanese mytholigy the god of wealth.
and for Hinata, I think it's something like "sunshine" or "sunny place"

There's an interesting name for you. Subaru comes from the Pleiades constelletion, a cluster of stars grouped together in the western/greek constellation Orion's Belt.
You'll notice that the car company Subaru's logo has a cluster of stars on it: that's why. It's where they got their name.

Sessha is the antiquated samurai form of self-address, in Rurouni Kenshin, Kenshin used it, and I've sometimes heard it translated to 'this unworthy one.' Any clue why Pakkun, of all people(well, close enough) in Naruto, uses it?
Gamakichi uses washi, which is an I used by older people. I believe that's what Gama-Bunta uses, too.
But they're both Yakuza frogs, and that's how they talk. So, Gamakichi is young, but he *has* to act older...
That sake drinking to seal a pact is also a Yakuza thing, and both frogs language and behavior are totally Japanese mafia.
Actually I disagree with you about the first-person pronouns
Watashi: gender-neutral. Everyone uses this when in normal conversations.
Watakushi: Honorific form. Use this if you are say, talking to the emperor, or your feudal lord ^^.
Boku: A slightly informal pronoun used by boys (less so by men) and tomboys. (a gaijin girl who uses this will just appear uneducated, so don't unless you actually are japanese or are obviously fluent ^^)
Atashi: A *very* femenine pronoun. Used by girls, guys who learn japanese from their female counterparts (or by watching hentai), and I suppose especially flamboyant homosexuals.
Ore: This one really isn't used that much, according to the people I've spoken to, but is ALL over anime. Hellsing, Naruto, Kenshin.... they all use it. I think it may be vestigial from some old fashioned form of speech, like King-Arthur-speech would be for English, but otherwise I don't know.
Anyway, about the names, couldn't someone find a non-translated manga to figure out the name kanji? or are they all in hiragana for younger readers?
Most of the names that I have seen are in hiragana, or at leas the names of Team 7 are. I haven't referenced more than that, though I know off the top of my head that the manga itself is in kanji,
