Television series seasons

Ok, I have a pretty simple questions that I probably should know the answer to, but don't. In Japan do the television shows have seasons? What I mean by that is are there new episodes every week year round, or at some point are they going to start doing reruns for a few months? i.e. Naruto is now up to episode 78, that probably spans a few seasons, is there still going to be a new episode every week, or at some point is there going to be a break for a few months? If so, what is the season start time and finish time typically?

I think so samurai. I know most 26 episode shows last for a season or so. Then a new show rises up to take its place. But a show with more then 26 episdoes takes a break at times i think. Naruto, for example has a movie coming out soon, they might take a break for that.
