I started this one in October (2009), but didn't put the finishing touches on it until this past week. I know the render isn't that fresh since it's part of the rotating banners at the top of the page, but I really liked it and wanted to do a sig with it. This will be last of my "glow effect" styled sigs for awhile; I've over-exhausted it now (though, at the time of creating this one I hadn't nearly as many as I do now).

Comments are always welcome. My name is her collar, in case anyone can't see it, or sees something but can't make out what it is.

I should also have some newer sigs posted soon (including, hopefully, one to use for the forums, finally).

No love for my Saber sig, huh?
Well, here is my newest set. It's my current. The sig took me hours to complete, as the only thing I did was take the original image and manipulate it to what you see here. Text and some black paint strokes were the only things I added. The ava took a decent amount of time because I went through 3 different images before I settled on this one. I tried to colour match as best as I could, but it looks like the ava is slightly "bluer"...

Here is the original version of the sig: http://alhuin.deviantart.com/art/Jace-Beleren-157801504
I had to shrink it a bit to fit the forums.

Also, sorry for the double post, but I couldn't recall if editing a post would mark it as new post.

I meant to reply when I first saw it but I totally forgot about it.

Anyway, the one thing that came to my attention was the light on Saber's head. It looks a little out of place. (I think it's because the depiction makes us unsure of what and where the lightsource is. I'm guessing it's the sun.)

As for your new set, I'm intrigued with the old-style art that the entire sig gives off. The amount of text seems to walk all over that though. Is there a way to shorten or lessen it?

Right now it looks like it's "on top" of the sig more than "integrated and is a part of" the sig. (PS I'm making it sound worse that it probably is. I thought maybe a bit less text would look better)

Hmm, I guess I can go in and see what it (the Saber sig) would look like without the glow effect. At the time of creation, it was something new I was using, so I put it in about everything, lol. It is supposed to give a "sunset" feel though.

As for my current, I too thought the text could be done a little better. Unfortunately, after several attempts to change/reposition/shorten/etc. I was unable to settle on anything that looked half as decent as it does now. In a sense, the way it is now, it isn't necessarily supposed to "integrate" with the sig; it's supposed to stick out just as much as the render (a style I have seen used on several sigs on the forum I originally made this for)... so I'm not sure what else I can do. I'm always thinking though.

Try changing the font colour to something lighter, then move it to the left or right side and use two lines instead of one so that it doesn't go over the render. The lighter colour should make it stick out like you want, and the placing would curb the slapped on look.

Alright, I'll work on it a bit later today when I can think of better text to use (something smaller). It needs to convey the thoughts/ideas of the character/image used, so I'm having a hard time thinking of something clever.

Love the new style! This is a gorgeous sig. I agree with everyone else's comments that the text could use some work. I think perhaps if you place it so that it looks like it's in the same plane as the render instead of in front of it, it will be less jarring. Maybe make use of your space to the right and left, if you split the sentence up into two parts? Right now the focal point of your sig is the face, but the text changes the focal point and drags the viewer's eyes down the the bottom edge. I would aim for balancing the text so that your sig is not unnecessarily "weighted" focally too far away from your main focal point.

Sorry I haven't posted an update yet. I just got a new computer (my old one basically crapped out on me) and have been in the process of customizing it to my liking, and transferring all my files.

The screen on this thing is so much brighter than my old one, and it makes my current set look brighter to me, so I will probably try to darken it some, as well as adjust the text, whenever I sit down and work in PS again.

I'm glad people like the idea though, and that the general consensus is the text is throwing it off. Makes me realize how much I have grown since my early days in order to produce a quality sig, and that, in turn, makes me feel good as an artist. So, thank you all.

Yeah, as Buffalobiian said, the light might be a bit out of place but overall a very well done sig, I really like it! I especially like the overall "water painting"-kinda look of it.

Okay, I finally did some updating to my Saber sig:

I removed the "glow effect" and added a new colour gradient filter to try and make it more crisp/vivid. I also moved my name off her collar to the bottom left, in my most recent font choice. The name movement was kind of last minute, so I may mess with it again, but let me know what you think of this update.

As for my current set, I'm still working with the text. I can't think of anything that is short enough and "cool" enough to imply the feel of the image that can fit on one line without going over the render. I hate to make it two lines cause it just doesn't feel right. I'll keep working at it though and post something when I can.

That saber sig is very cool. The lack of the glow effect allows us to see the background, which for its simplicity still complements the render very well. I definitely think this is a significant improvement from the first version.

For the text on the other sig, maybe you can keep the content, and just remove the border and place it at the bottom center? Maybe that will make it less intrusive yet still be easy enough to see.

Yeah, I like the Saber this time too. The glare before made it hard to look at her.

Thanks, I'm glad you all like the updated version. I, too, like my newer version much better than the old.

I finally tried messing around with my current set. Changed the text and moved it some. Let me know if this is an improvement or not.

I absolutely love the improvements on the Saber sig. Totally gorgeous. Though, even with you saying where you put your name, I can't see it at all. You might want to make it a little more visible.

Your current sig is an improvement, but now I think it's weighted too far to the left, which makes all the empty space on the right seem weird. Though, you could easily compensate for that by shifting your render to the right, or by cropping it from the right hand side to take the empty space down a bit.

I see where the sig feels weighted now, however the suggestion about shifting the render is impossible as it isn't a render.

The original image I used when making this sig. I didn't render it out, I simply copied it several times, layer masked it, erased what I didn't need, moved various layers around to make the background look the way it did, multiplied some layers to make the edges "spread"... needless to say, the layers on this sig are so out of place, that I can't simply just shift it.

As for cropping from the right side... I rather like the way the right side looks, so I'd prefer not to destroy any of that. I'll have to think of another way to fix it.

Anyways, with my Saber sig, my name isn't written in English, it's in the font that I used in my current set (at the top right), so if you're looking for "Alhuin" you won't see it. But, I probably do need to mess with it a little bit. I'm glad you like the improvement though. And thanks for the suggestions for my current set.

EDIT: @Archie: Does your idea consist of cropping the sig, or attempting to move the render? If so, as I explained above, that won't work. But if it's something else, I can send you the file to take a look at.

    Here's my idea

I thought it was a waste to not use the fire, and with this position you have less wasted space while still leaving enough for the text you want to add

I like your idea, but I didn't really want to keep the fire (or any indication of it) in my version. It was supposed to be straight blue(ish). Not to mention I hate the way his hand is portrayed, so I didn't want it in the picture either.

I don't know, I might play around and start from scratch and try something similar to that with fire, but manipulate it to the extent of my current. I'm kinda getting bored with it, lol. I'm working on several other pieces that interest me more.

    Like learning the pen tool...

Anyways, thanks for the idea; I definitely like it, and might use it... it just doesn't fit what I currently want it to portray. How is my text change though (the wording)? I tried for something smaller that still "fit" the image.

Also, I think I asked this once upon a time, but don't remember what anyone said: I need an image uploading site that isn't photobucket or imageshack. PB tends to lessen the quality of my uploads, and I hate the adds that IS has.

Set photobucket to no optimization and get ad block for imageshack
