I get what you mean thanks to RZ's explanation, but I generally don't think a sig image needs text aside from the user's nick.

To pick on a convenient example, most of RZs sigs are half a wall of text, and half a render. It depends on the philosophical path you ascribe to. While you and RZ clearly don't see a problem with that, I think that a block of text will always detract from the render itself.

You can put whatever text you want outside of the image. That's just a caption. Captions (or titles) never detract from an image, they serve to enhance the image, or drive the viewer down a path the creators wants to convey. That's also not to say you can't have any text. I think a line or two in a small font can really enhance an image and send the message you want it to.

When text dominates the image, at least in my case, my eyes are drawn away from the image, and that becomes the background, rather than the focus.

    [F/SN game spoilerific.]

Take this one I made some time ago for another forum (hence the large dimension). I liked it when I made it, but upon reflection the typeface kind of sucks and because of the complete lack of visual balance, your eyes go all over the place. It's only saving grace is the focal point right in the middle, where the light/dark contrast forces you to look. Unfortunately, neither of the renders are there, so it doesn't accomplish a great deal.

But the text is still a small percentage of the space in the image, and itself doesn't distract the eye. I think text should serve to enhance the meaning behind the image, but the renders themselves are the far more fascinating part of the total presentation. The text only need be read once, and if it is there at all, the viewer will read it.

It's the same reason you don't want too much going on in the background, because it kills the focus on the rest of it. (My example has that problem.)

    It's a matter of opinion
You see text as an addition to a sig who is supposed to have as it's main focus the render.

I feel that there isn't always a need for 1 single focus, but that all elements of the sig can work in a manner that will draw the viewers attention in its own way. That's also the reason why, as long as i'm not overcrowding the sig, i like to keep dead space to a minimum

By the way, isn't that sig kinda spoily outside the fsn game thread?

Noted and edited. I sorta figured it had been long enough now given that Fate Unlimited Codes has a western version and she is in that form in it, but it is better to play it safe.

Indeed, we'll have to agree to disagree.

New set. Ame from Denpa Teki na Kanojo. It is my current.

The avatar I chose is intentionally simple to emphasize how cool/cute Ame looks underneath the fringe. Yes, for those who have not seen the show, the girl in my avatar and sig are the same person.

From what you've said, I'm guessing it takes one to have seen the show in part or whole to fully appreciate Ame's depiction.

The sig is nice as a standalone artwork. I like angle, which isn't uncommonly used in anime, but one that you don't see in sigs too frequently.

Funny, i actually had that same series on my favorites with the intention of downloading it later

Can i assume you recommend it? Also, how dark is it? I ask because sexual abuse is one of the tags in anidb.

Violence, Sex, Yanderes, all masterfully depicted.

Denpa Teki na Kanojo episode 1 blew my mind when I watched it.

Then episode 2 wiped the floor with my brains.

Those are both compliments by the way.

It has intelligent yet absurdly eccentric characters. The story is also suspenseful, mysterious and can get you off guard. Great artwork is also a plus, since a lot of the more graphic and violent scenes will simply not be the same with mediocre art. The main male character is also quite strong, something very positive for those who despise weaklings.

    And then, there is Ame.

    I cannot recommend something more.

lol. Only after reading the above two posts did I realise I have actually watched this.

I thought the avatar was slightly familiar, but thought nothing of it. (edit: no wonder, only 1 episode has been subbed.)

As a preemptive review on Shinta's latest set i have to say that it looks somewhat rushed

I believe that this latest loli's effect left him unable to use both hands when creating the set, and it suffered for it

    Definitely rushed.

Very few good pictures are out, and I don't really have time to edit them much.

I like the avatar, but I didn't even remove Akira's hair LOL. I just wanted to be the first to have a bund set (partially because of your comment in another thread), then when I find something better I will change them.

EDIT: New Tepes sig. It looks simple, but that doesn't mean I didn't spend time on it. A bit of cleaning and colour adjustment, but what really took me a bit is sig placement. That, and trying a ton of different fonts and font placements before realizing it just looks better without any. I also tried reducing the sig size horizontally to minimize the BG space, but it took away the BG and foreground contrast so I opted for this version.

Why not just use the one from the website?
