As do I. But sometimes you just can't find renderable pics, plus I like to stockpile renders anyway, so that I'll have them ready if needed.

your not alone xdarkmaster....but having a ready made render is not bad at all, if your lazy or lazy-ish sometimes lol

No, it's not just you. I also prefer to do that for a very specific reason: It gets me involved in the work from an earlier stage. Of course even better would be to draw it from scratch (if I had the skills). That's why I also, in a twisted sense, like when there's something that needs fixing in the image: removing text, adding some clipped parts... That sort of things.
Tonton: I also stockpile renders and your totally right, it's nice already having a render to use sometimes.
I'm with Kraco on this one. I cut most of the renders myself because I like to have complete control over the stuff I'm working with. It also gives you a lot more pictures to choose from because there are millions of pictures out there that aren't rendered and probably never will be (i.e. the guy in my sig).
Only time I use renders is if I happen to stumble across a really good one, and by really good I mean it better bring tears to my eyes (i.e. the Turks render I used).

It may be more time consuming, but I do the same. There are never any good renders of what I want.
For all you awesome people, it's just Phoenix. The numbers are just the amount of times people misspell it.
OK, now sorry for being a complete newb, are you referring to render as being an original jpeg file thats simply coloured? or are you referring to something else? I feel as if I'm missing something, and thanks alot for the websites, they look good
A render is a what it is called when you take a regular image with characters or someother point of interest and essentially remove the rest of the image around them so that the character is the only thing left so you can use them in sigs and other graphic design.
Awesome, thanks for clearing that up...
now back to Photoshop CS and my dragonlings
my first sig in a while...
any suggestions? I know it probably needs some work... anyone know a place to find good texts?

Sweet Masa!! I like that background alot. dafont.com for some fonts. I think it looks good though. Could use a border, and the render on the right, blending doesn't blend to great, but not so much that it takes away from the sig. Other than that, great sig

I'm one of those people that insists on that you don't need a cool font, just mess around with a normal font and it can look good. But then again i suck on working with fonts so that might be it.
As for the sig, i recommend trying to stick to just one render and then focus alot of energy on the background, with brushing and highlights/shadows. It also generally looks better if the render isn't at the edge of the sig, this is only my own preference of course, but if gives you the option to work the background diffrently on both sides of the character regarding color scheme or other design issues.
Latest sig...
nice sig masa... but the render on the right doesn't blend in very well as ton ton said as for the text the site he recomended is great, i know, been hacking away bit by bit at that site they have some really cool fonts...
i think PSJ is right with the one render thing, but i like using multiple renders so... i am not totally sure. Maybe if you increase the size of one of the render and fade it into the background and use it to inhance the primary render then that might be better. As for the text thing PSJ i disagree, while i don't know much about tweeking a normal font, so a cool font is always a nice way to add detail to a sig....always good if it goes with the theme and emotion of the sig.....

Awesome sig BoC! Do you think you can post the render or PM it to me since it's a spoiler?
BoC - from the only guy who sucks at sigs yet makes lots of comments on others':
The face of Kyuubi Naruto is TOO sharp! Need to blur it a bit and make it meld better with the background
btw, thanks for the recommendatoins all!
