Didn't the original series already skip the first arc?

Original series started with the Black Swordsman arc and played up till Guts slew the snake baron before it cut into the Golden Age arc starting with young Guts killing Bazuso.

Colette was skipped, Slug Count was skipped.

Looked like plenty of CGI from what I could judge after one watch. Not that I necessarily mind.

Sure, that's definitely applicable to the Japanese fans who actually buy dvds/see movies etc. But when it comes to the internet/world fandom opinion, moe doesn't necessarily hold up so well. FMA:B is #1 on AniDB, #3 on ANN, and #2 on MAL. LoGH (Possibly the farthest show from moe imaginable?) is #3 on AniDB, and #4 on MAL, but unfortunately not even top 10 on ANN. Gintama takes #1 as well as #3 on MAL (split first season second season thing), and #5 on AniDB, and yet is another one not even top 10 on ANN. However, moe does still break through (If Haruhi is moe. It is, isn't it? What is moe anyways?). Haruhi movie is #1 on ANN, #5 on MAL and #2 on AniDB. And Clannad:AS (okay, even if Haruhi isn't, Clannad is definitely moe) is #2 on ANN, #6 on MAL, and #7 on AniDB.

So, apparently I guess ANN is bigger on moe than either the AniDB or MAL communities. But even so, if we can safely agree on these 5 titles I've listed as a general top-5 anime titles, then it's still 1 sci-fi/space opera/political drama, 2 shounens (FMA is shounen, right? Maybe leans a little more seinen than Gintama though), and 2 "moe" titles.

I've relied on AniDB, ANN, and MAL (I figure when triangulating the 3 you can get a pretty good idea of whats considered the top 10), but if you guys know another large-scale community/database with top-ten rankings then please share and we can compare the numbers to these sites.

Haruhi and Clannad have moe elements, but they are not top tier because of that.

Haruhi is (was?) innovative in its presentation with great direction and production values. It also had a fresh postmodern premise. It also broke the music in anime mold with the band episode.

Clannad is a really touching story that masterfully tugs at the heartstrings. The music was also absolutely excellent, and the characters had depth.

I am confident that these Berserk movies will reach high ranks if done well, just like how the Rebuild of Evangelion movies are getting well received thus far.

the problem with this is that people who decide what anime to adopt next and how many of what will there be in a new season only care about ratings / dvd (merchandise) sales, so Berserk can be #1 on all the big sites and still be canceled and we will continue to see more and more moe

The Twitter account for the Berserk franchise announced on Friday that the official site is streaming two television commercials for the 36th manga volume and the Berserk Ōgon Jidai-Hen I: Haō no Tamago (Berserk Golden Age Arc I: Egg of the Supreme Ruler) film. The "Kiss Kiss" and "Sore Dokoro Ja ne!" commercials began airing in Japan at Friday at midnight.

Kentarou Miura's 36th manga volume is shipping on Friday, and the first film in the three-part retelling of the Golden Age arc of Kentaro Miura's manga will open in Japan next January. Viz Media is publishing the 35th manga volume this week.

Still early to judge based on a couple of very short teasers, but pretty smooth looking animation. The CGI incorporation didn't look bad either. For once the CGI looked as good as in games, not much worse like it's in too many anime. I guess they have had some serious money to invest in this production.

I can see how some might not like the CG-parts, but I think they look mightily fine, not even nearly as crappy as the usual cg-stuff in anime. Looking so forward <3
