Sigs and Avs is what separates this forums from the rest. There are lots of good things that separate gotwoot from other kinds of forums.
Signarture - Make u stand out
Avatars - makes you look nice
The old gotwoot forum - priceless..

I totally agree.Originally posted by: dazzz

The signatures, in truth, took up probably 1/4 of the total page space. And, besides, this forum isn't about signatures, or avatars really, it's about the people and their discussions. Signatures too much away from that, especially right before the big forum change.
I, for one, don't mind signatures.. but it did get annoying while in another section, people were asking each other about their signatures and complimenting them and whatnot, while that could've been done easily in PM. That's part of the reason why I didn't have one for so long.
Avatars are the main thing I look at to see who's who. Very, very few people have the same avatar, so you can tell who the person is just by looking at their avatar.
Now, just because the sigs are gone doesn't mean that the signature contests have to be. You just can't use 'em on this forum, that's all.
Well put JessiA. My thoughts are this. The sigs look cool the first time I see whoevers it is, then I really dont care one way or the other about them.

how did u get ur avatar there?
Agreed.
I was going to edit my post, but I figure I'll just say it here.
Along with making page loading slower and sometimes distracting people from the actual messages, some people had cookies imbedded into their signatures from whereever their host was. Cookies are annoying, and getting rid of signatures is definately one way to get rid of those cookies.
There's a thread in the General Discussion forum labeled "Custom Avas are Here!" or something along those lines.Originally posted by: Naruto

While I appreciate the problems with sigs causing the page to slow down in loading time, I must admit that having this switch to no sigs occuring right when I am in the middle of a sig-making contest very discouraging.
After all, the inverse of JessiA's comment about sigs is: Why have a sig contest here if we're not going to be able to display our work?
I must admit that if this is a permanent situation my time spent on gotwoot will be dropping dramatically, and I will take myself and my signature work to some other board.
Why do you have the need to display your "work" in every post you make? Were you ignored as a child and now have a constant need for attention?Originally posted by: lasaire

I don't know if you're aware, but this forum isn't about sigs, and it's not your personal canvas. If you want to display your banners so bad, go buy some ad space somewhere.
Gotwoot is not here for people to display their works. If you wanna do that, open up a website. Gotwoot is a forum, for discussion.
People CAN still display their works, like so:
http://lilachaze.gotwoot.net/Signatu.../NARU-1-MB.jpg
And therefore, still participate in the contests that are held once in a while.
If your main purpose in coming to gotwoot was just to sit around and make images for people to use in their signatures.. then may I suggest you go to delphi.com. They allow signatures, regardless of size or shape. They just can't be from liscenced shows (and if you have permission, you must let one of the administrators know, with proof).. and you need a paid for account to be able to display signatures as well.
Hrm.. Maybe Ciber wouldn't mind biling Gotwoot members $2 a month to allow them to use signatures
So just to clarify, are the picture sigs gone for good or is it temporary until the new forum gets all the bugs worked out.
you dont even know half of this forums greatness. back in the days when the forums was pretty new about late july early august it was great, man i miss those days.Originally posted by: itachi_

Wow, Ciber and JessiA....
first of all, Ciber, there's no need to personally attack lasaire like that. All it accomplishes is showing your immaturity and idiocy.
Some people enjoy different aspects of this forum, and that was the beauty of gotwoot. I could go to the Naruto forum, discuss the new episode, then mosey on over the the general board and look at some boobs, then finally stop off in the fanart thread and partake in sig-making ventures with my fellow posters. Why take this freedom away? Because you don't like long loading times? Come on.
JessiA, I remmeber months ago, you were the first person to ever make young kagari a sig. Now suddenly you're the george bush of the forum, accusing everyone of using sigs of mass destruction. what's the matter, bitter you didn't get any votes in the contest?
This forum was great, and I've had tons of fun...sigs being right up there. I spent more time in the fanart thread for fear of being spoiled in the anime thread! Honestly people, sigs should be here to stay. they are fun, creative and entertaining.
Please don't ruin the greatest forum I've ever posted on...you guys are already halfway there. stop while you still can.

Thank you, Kagari, for sticking up for me.
I really wanted to respond to some people who seemed to be attacking me personally, but I can't do so without getting angry and I refuse to respond in kind.
If there is anyone who feel that the sig-creation thread and the sig contest were flooding the boards or otherwise wasting space, then why did they quickly become one of the most popular threads in terms of number of people posting there? Why was there such a high response to the contest, not only in number of entries but number of total votes?
I'm really disappointed that those against sigs have such a strong feeling about it. In my ideal world, we'd have a forum wide poll (which, I feel obliged to point out, sigs are winning) and whatever was decided by the masses would be the rule. If no sigs won, I'd stick around and not say a single word in complaint. What does make me angry is feeling that my opinion is ignored or looked down upon because of what seems to be a bias against me personally.
Man that was a low blow. In the end its up to the admins how they want to present the forums to us. I personally agree that these new forums suck ass but its not up to me or you. Even though this new forum is complete garbage compared to the old one (IMO), things could be worse. There could be no forum at all.Originally posted by: Kagari

Yeah, maybe that was a low blow....but I don't think I shall apologize. Saying this like "Suck it up or leave" to the forum members is pretty low, too...and insulting our Sig Request thread (which, by the way, quickly bacame one of the more popular threads on the board) or making fun of Individual posters (see ciber's response to Lasaire wondering how we can display our work) isn't exactly lovey-dovey, now is it? We seem to have gone from Happy, fun board to ACHTUNG GESTALT! Hitler board.
We're trying to bring back one of our favourite parts of the forums, and we're not even being given a chance to debate. They're telling us no matter what, sigs are gone, and if we disagree we should just pack up and leave. Is this how you treat your fellow board members? I think not.

tbh if i cant have a sig im not gunna be as interested in this forum, as photoshop is a good hobby of mine which links in with my love of naruto, and these forums give me a use for the photoshop stuff i learn, ie making sigs.
Lasaire and Kagari I agree 110%! Its forum suicide to ridicule their members and pretty much tell them to fuck off, thats just me though, ive been here since day 2 and been through its ups and downs(i agree back in 2003 it was best) ill stick around im just trying to better the community I and so many have been a part of for quite a long period of time.
The JessiA thing wasnt very nice, shes a nice person just in a rough position as a mod and a sig maker, cut her a little slack.
I agree with Lasaire, Kagari and Albino completely, but I don't think we should be insulting each other at all (this goes both for Kagari's low blow and for Ciber and JessiA). What I don't get is the following? If sigs were so evil and bad in the old forums why no one said anything about them until this new forum appeared?

No one is telling you to "Fuck off". We've tried explaining to you all of the issues that sigs cause and the little benefit of having them around.
I've asked a couple of you that have been really vocal about sigs to name 3 good valid reasons as to why sigs are necessary. Itachi_ was one of the people i asked, he did not even come up with one.
Too many negatives and no real positives.
