there are way too many animes to pick a favorite charecter out of them.. i've got about 2 favorites in each show and i couldn't possibley choose the ultimate favorite one.
if i have to choose, i can say i defintally like these few from thier repective animes:
Piccolo (DBZ): he makes funny comments ("is it over?" "not until the fish jumps"he's probably the smartest fighter on the anime (Buu would have never been able to match gohan without his battle sense), he has ownish fights (17, cell, even his fight against freeza was nice) and he can regenarate his organs. you won't find anyone cooler than him in the entire DBZ anime.
Tanchikuma (GITS:SAC): the robots attack! run for your life! tanchikuma is here and no one will be able to stop him from being the funniest, cuetest matallic thing ever!
Houshimaru (Narutaru): he's just so cute, i can't resiset a murderous star...
Hiei (Yu Yu Hakusho): he can stand in the ring and fart his enemy to death and still be cool.
Chrno (Chrno Crusade): he stands up rossete, you got to give him credit for that, and i still think he looked cool in ep 4, when he almost changed into his complete demon form.
Soujiro (Rurouni Kenshin): he the worst swordsman around the anime and he still wins just by being an uber 133t guy, me and my friends are still not sure if he could win shishio, but he's definatlly an owning kind of guy.
Gutts (Berserk): he's a cynical, crazy-in-love, vengefull mainiac with a large sword and good battle animation, you don't go much farther than that on the 'cool' ladder.
BTW: Shinji Ikari is the anime equivelent of shit, you have to have him, but no one wants to...

Haha Seijuro could easily deafeat shishio, absolutly no doubt! He was just too powerful for the series..

you just can't beat onizuka, such a badass character. Always manages to get out of tight situations and can't take 3 guys at the same time! The live action was too good, i saw it at this past years otakon convention not far behind is gutts, he always manages to show up out of nowhere and you know he's bringin a keg of whoopass when he comes, he could be across the counry and caska could be about to be raped and he's show up and chop the guy in half. Those are my fav's

Onizuka:Hes' jus too funny..and always gettin outta trouble somehow..and jus plain out funny...lol
Jubei:I think he a hella koo samurai...better than any other one...he doesn't have super crazy powers or anything...hes' jus normal,but strong & can kill demons...not like other shows with samurais' or something that have like super powers or something.
Heroes:
Leopold Scorpes (Scrapped Princess) - He's simply a fun character to watch develop. He starts out seeming like simple comic relief, but he develops into so much more.
Erlic Brothers (Full Metal Alchemist) - The pair of the Erlic brothers should forever be known as the best Anime Duo in history. So many ironies surrounding their characterizations, great comedy in reference to their bodies, and, of course, incredible development on both parts.
Vash the Stampede (Trigun) - Has there ever been an anime character with more layers, more depth and just more loveable than Vash? He is a god among anime heroes.
Villians:
Valgaav (Slayers TRY) - What the deuce? A Slayers villian with decent motivation and development? We have a winner!
Soujiro (Rurouni Kenshin) - In case you couldn't tell, character development is a big deal for me. Soujiro has ALOT of character development. He simply rules.
Zabuza & Haku (Naruto) - Once again, development is key. Oh, and villians who end up having legitimate changes of heart? Incredible. These two characters have the saddest deaths I've ever seen in anime.
Yeah, Gatts from Berserk is my idol, the one badass I'd like to be no matter how frightening his life may be.
I do tend to enjoy the skilled humorous characters the most normally (Vash the Stampede, Spike Spiegel, Eikichi Onizuka; types like those).

Rurouni Kenshin: Aoshi just because he manages to keep a straight face in a fight, also the fact he just kicks ass in general.
GetBackers: Amano Ginji because he rules, hes funny as hell with Akabane and in all around context.
Hunter X Hunter: Hisoka + Killua, Hisoka is creepy as F**K! I mean, he gets off over Gon and Danchou, if thats not weird what is. And Killua because hes cocky as hell and totally kicks ass.
Yu Yu Hakusho: Hiei cause hes a pissy little fire demon.
DBZ: Vegeta because of his arrogance and humour.
GunGrave: Brandon Heat as he kicks ass with a gun.
Trigun: Vash The Stampede because hes one of the funniest anime characters ever.
Ghost In The Shell - Stand Alone Complex: Tachikomas cause they are the greatest robots EVER with their little voices and funny as hell attitude.

Yup, I had totally forgot about Tachikomas until I watched one of the later episodes in the first gig of GitS:SAC, they quite seriously rule. The laughing man is pretty cool as he looks like Kenny from SP [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif[/img]
I can't remember her name, but it might have been something like 'Seya', the main character from Blood: The Last Vampire.

I like Haruka from RahXephon. She's so bad at hiding her feelings, but fortunately for her Ayato's so dense he doesn't notice how bad she is at it. She carries around so much of a burden for so long, I think she qualifies as one of the most legitimately pained people in any series ever....
Sure, losing a loved one hurts. But getting them back and still not having them, but having them dangling right in front of you like that? Yeah ...
