Ever notice how there's always a female in one of the groups? Is it a requirement to have one female in a group?

Its not a requirement but it must help. Just look at what happened to the rain nin group when they fought Gaara in the forest of death. If they had a chick she could have used her sexiness against him.

Hehe yeah, but it's kind of weird, all 3 rookie groups have one female, Neji's group, Dosu's group, Gaara's group, and even Orochimaru's group.

showing the ratio of female to male ninjas in the work force?... plus to much of a sausagefest and they would all end up like haku. Hokage wants to keep ever ything on the up and up.

Females balance the group. Gotta have some order between 2 guys.

Maybe it's because female ninjas are generally weaker and need two guys to balance it up, because 3 girls in one team against an all male group would get kicked pretty bad.
That's my thought... And i don't mean to put females down in any way, but males are stronger built, it's a fact.
