Thread: MIRCX Dead

1. #1
Official release here http://www.mircx.com/irc.html

Sunday, February 22, 2004
Over the past few days, we have been receiving a very large sustained ongoing DDoS attack against all of the servers on our IRC network. While we have made efforts to filter the attack, the person behind it has been very persistent and we have been forced to block all traffic to the servers at times to filter it. Unfortunately, the end result has been an unusable network and the loss of our secondary server.

Together with our main server provider, we have decided to close down what's left of the IRC network. We don't know for how long the attack will continue, and it has, at times, affected other servers (and paying customers) on the networks where the IRC servers are hosted. Ultimately, we decided that it's no longer worth the expense, resources, and trouble to deal with any more attacks and outages over a free service. While we understand how many of you have come to depend on the IRC network, we hope you can understand our position and do apologize for the short notice and inconvenience this causes. We would have liked to continue the IRC network for a long time to come, but with the current state of DDoS attacks on the Internet and the problem only increasing, this no longer seems feasible.

We would like to thank the providers who hosted our servers over the past few years for their support, and all of you who made the IRC network your home. At this time, we know who is responsible for the attacks and law enforcement is investigating. Should you have any information which might assist law enforcement, please send it to us and we will pass it along.

Sad Day for all, Wankers win.

s'ok just link to it no problems sure the mods will flame or not. they will have enough problems haveing to scratch up a # someplace. Meh Aniverse looking pretty good about now.

4. #4
So who is responsible?

I would also like to know this. So then we can find them and beat the living hell out of them!

But Aniverse seems to be the new home to several fansub groups and release groups...For now. AGO (Anime-Game-Osts) seems to have a temp channel there (although it was really a backup channel).

MIRC-X is gone for good. We need to find a new server.

No, just one of the many networks on IRC.

Well, supposedly they upgraded the servers a while back, and it hasn't crashed since. So it might be able to handle is. I'm on #animeone right now and it seems fine.

is this a big deal? im not into irc stuff at all... could someone explain so i understand?

13. #13
Yeah but wait until they have 4,000 users and a Naruto episode is released... i really don't know I'm probably talking BS,,,

But in other news... I was just disconected from aniverse and can't reconnect... I hope they are not being targeted

anyone knows all the ports that aniverse listens to?

14. #14
Aniverse was probably getting traffic so high that it crashed. I dread a Friday afternoon on Aniverse, it'll die every 15 seconds.

A new huge server is necessary. Aniverse isn't really up to it.

15. #15
Perhaps I was wrong about Animverse being able to host #animeone. Last I checked, before I got kicked off, it was at almost 1,000 users in the channel.

Aniverse used to be the only real game in town besides ETG ( which really didn't count) and except for the lame a$$ AOL'rs who were pretty much Klined anyways. Aniverse easily handled the load until the script kiddies went to town on it back in what wazzit 2002 ? thats when MIRCX became so popular anyways.

AS I recall AJ started this off by migrating over to MIRCX (more like got booted off aniverse) about the time aniverse became unstable. saying that the Gundam Seed releases would be Mircx releses ONLY... got the leeches over there. next thing you know the rest is history.

I guess we are going to have to check each Fanscanners/Fansubbers website to find out what networks they are going to move to then...

I think they are going to try out Rizon (at least animeone, others seem to be following)

It looks like they still are trying to figure out where to move but the real ops of animeone are currently at rizon if not mistaken

read this if you are bored:
