I really want to get a full complete box set of Evangelion (not including the 2 movies) but I've seen them vary alot in prices depending on where I go. Im going to order all my dvds online but the cheapest I've found for Eva TV Box Set is $129.99 from Discount Anime Dvd. Anyone know where I can find one cheaper? (same product, dont like bootleg products btw)
Im also gonna buy Gundam Seed Set, but currently I've only been able to find #1~32 (8 Disc Set) for $63.99 on HKtoyz site. I was wondering, if I buy the #1~32 set, will they make a 33~ 50 Set?? Because it would piss me off if I buy the #1~32 set, and they dont make a 33~50 set, which forces me to buy each dvd seperately which will cost me more money that I dont have
What sites do u recommend?? Should I just wait till a #1~50 Gundam Seed box set comes out and buy that??
(Also, I've noticed that many diffrent anime dvd sites sell different type of products of the same anime. Because my friend's chobit's dvd has horrible english fansubs and I also want to buy chobits set but not ones that misspell at least one word in every line)
Btw, can anyone find me a link to cheap box set of Kare Kano?
Im really desperate for this >.>

If you go on EBAY you might find some good deals on there. Watch out for bootlegs though. Sometimes the quality is subpar.

Doesn't Discount Anime DVD only sell bootlegs?

d-a-d tends to sell hk's ... which are about the equivalent of bootlegs.
If you're conscious of poor video quality and crappy subbing jobs, the best advice anyone can give you is WAIT FOR THE R1 RELEASES.
If it's encoded "region free" or "all region" .... if it has 2 sub languages (english and chinese usually) and no dub, if it doesn't have a r1 distributors name on it, or if it is out of the 3-5 episodes/disc range, you should highly suspect it and do more research. Otherwise you're just buying shitty hkdvds.
Specifically with gseed, Bandai hasn't even announced a release date for their dvds yet. Hopefully they'll be announcing dvd schedules at the upcoming conventions ...
For eva, I'd recommend searching ebay. Make sure you're not getting bootlegs or hks there though -- if you see something that is less than 8 dvds claiming it's a box set, it's an hk. I think you can find real sets starting at around $80ish ...
I think the kare kano set will be harder to find, your best bet there will also probably be ebay. search for "his and her circumstances" instead of kare kano or any other names. The "real" set has 5 dvds and a pretty box, again beware of hk sets which will invariably suffer in quality. I've seen real box sets starting around $50 there.
I'd say it's definitely worthwhile to scour the ebay listings for anime dvds, as long as you watch for the warning signs of "not what you want"

Thanks, that cleared up a whole bunch, but I really cant tell the difference between the HKDVD and a good dvd. Here is a link to gundam seed that I was interested in:
http://www.hktoyz.com/products/g/gundam_seed_main.php
The 8 disc combo at the top. It doesnt really seem crappy. Im going to ask my friend about getting some on ebay, but what I really dont understand is the
"region free" or "all region" thing. Should I look for dvds with region free?? Im really new at this, so I'd appreciate some more help. Thanks

I ran EVA through www.dvdpricesearch.com and came up with barnes and nobles at $101.97.

Can't help you with the others though.

well, the eva collection is legit and region 1 (as you'd expect from a reputable retailer).
The gseed boxset there .... well ... it's not the r1 release. If you honestly can't tell the difference, then I guess that's fine, but be aware that most hkdvds come from untrustworthy sources, so you might be importing pirated copies instead of supporting the producers. And if you have friends who like dubs, you won't be able to show them your dvds 'cause ... well ... they won't have dubs.
to answer your other question ...
The difference in region encodings is a dvd market isolation thing. Basically there's a couple region code options the mfr's can set on the dvd, so it only plays in certain hardware. A region 1 dvd will only play in a region 1 dvd player or drive, or something that's region unaware. region 2 will only play in an r2 device, and so on. Region free will play on anything. Which is why most bootleggers encode region free for their dvds and such.
Region 1 refers to the US and Canada, 2 is japan, england, france, greece, turkey, egypt, other parts of europe, arabia and south africa. 3 is korea, vietnam, indonesia, and the like. 4 is australia, mexico, new zealand, the carribean and south america, 5 is india, africa and russia, 6 is china. A lot of stuff from china and hongkong isn't region encoded because the markets don't want to be isolated from each other... a non-regioned disc can be sold in korea or china or hongkong, but a region 3 disk can only be played on a korean, vietnamese or indonesian player, and a region 6 disk will only play on a chinese player.
I personally prefer to buy my dvds region 1 because I like the consistency. I've seen a lot of messy bad hkdvds with bad video and bad audio and poor translation, but a whole lot less bad r1 dvds. I think to me it's worth the slightly increased cost and the wait to buy things that ... well ... aren't going to suck. But that's just me .
