we dont know how Orochimaru would fair with his new body, Itachi as far as we know was stronger then Orochimarus old body. (thats probably not including the fact that he can summon Manda or dead people)
Atasuki are all volunteers, Jiraiya explains that - so there is no leader.

im going to have to say that itachi is stonger then both oro and kiminmaro, bc hes mastered the sharingan at a young age killed off his entire clan leaving only his borther sasuke alive so that sasuke will one day take his life, and even itachi was strong enough to take on 3 jounins and there was also that match with jiraiya which he also won. itachi is the stongest out of those two and even oro said him self that iachi is stronger then him forgot wut chpter it was though.
orochimaru isn't part of akatsuki anymore.
anyway, think about your question Naruto-god. kabuto compared sasuke with kimimaro and said "i wonder who is stronger." also, orochimaru said that itachi is stronger than he is and that's obviously why orochimaru can't capture and use itachi's body. so, it's not impossible, but improbable (super, highly improbable) that kimimaro is stronger than itachi.
i thought i just spell it out step by step.
just gettin this straight. there is no leader of akatsuki, there a group of missin nin from each village that formed somewhere.. oh and yes, itachi is stronger than orochimaru. why? because he said it himself,..i think there is a Hyuga in the akatsuki..i duno..

If you're saying that Zabuza trapped Kakashi because he had to worry about protecting Sasuke, Sakura and Naruto - Kakashi fought Itachi when he was trying to save Kunerai and Asuma if you read that chapter
hm I don't think there will be another member of the akatsuki from Konoha. My guess would be that there is one from each of the hidden ninja villages. Who knows maybe we'll see someone from Haku's or Kimimaro's bloodline. (not sure if they are all dead)
Also I don't see where it says there is no leader. I think there has to be a mastermind behind it all. I don't think a bunch of missing-nins would just come together and form a group for no aparent reason.

Actually after reading the manga again I have to say Itachi can't be as strong as Jiraiya and the hokages. I still think he's stronger than Orochimaru but I don't think he is unstoppable. In the manga Kisame reminds Itachi that by using his eye multiple times he is also hurting himself. So he has a weakness.

I think it's starting to finally sink in. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The sharingan is a double edged sword. The more you use the more it will hurt you. Itachi isn't invincible. I'm glad that some of you people are pulling your heads out of Itachi's ass and are seeing the light. Sharingan is his greatest strength and at the same time his greates weakness.

stop talking about this...it's freakin obvious that itachi is the strongest ninja introduced so far! end of discussion, thread = closed.
I want to see the rest of Akatsuki.From what we've seen,all the strongest S-class criminals have been connected to it,and for what reason we do not know.
zabuza didn't worry about naruto, sasuke and sakura. his water clone that has 1/10th of his strength is stronger than all three of them. the kids just outsmarted zabuza.
