Naruto and Dragonball Z

Well DBZ was awesome. OK it didn't have a story that would blow you away, but it was far from boring. Although I do now in hindsight wish that there was a bit more emphasis on fighting techniques than just your power level, I still enjoyed it hugely. I still don't get why people now just turn around and start bashing DBZ... sure it wasn't perfect but remember new anime creators should (in theory) be able to learn from the mistakes of past anime's and carry on the good points. Anyway, my two cents is that DBZ rules, and there is no point in being childish and saying oh no that anime is crap don't go there and this anime rules.... that approach just means that you automatically cut away about half of the anime out there. Everyone has their own tastes... if someone doesn't like an anime fine... it's there for enterainment, not to start a cult. I don't go around flaming anyone who doesn't think the same thing I do about DBZ.

I've seen many people commenting on the fact that Naruto is becoming like Dragonball Z....

Well... That is kind of justified being that Kishimoto's biggest inspiration IS Toriyama, as he said himself in his "interview with the artists" in the manga. Dragonball on its own was bad because it was alot of the same stuff over and over again, "Ohh look at me I have to train in the other world... Oh damn another uber godlike dude is coming to blow up the earth, save me! wish me back witht he dragonballs!" that routine kinda got old after awhile.. But at face value (God help me for saying this), it wasn't that bad..

Naruto runs into the fact that it takes on several traits from Dragonball... Kyuubi mode Naruto = Super Saiyan Naruto... same thing effectively, only Kishimoto justifies the jump in power a whole lot more than Toriyama did with the Saiyans just kind of having the power.

All in all, we're going to see alot of similar traits from Dragonball in Naruto, but as long as the storyline continues to develop like it is, I dont' see a problem with Naruto going in that direction.

You're wrong when you said Dragon Ball on its on is jsut the same thing over and over again. One thing Goku never died in Dragon Ball so how could he go to the otehr world. Nobody in DragonBall tried to blow up the earth, there wasn't any villian that was strong enough to do so, and Picollo Daimou was the only one that had anything to do wtih controlling the Earth or anything of that magnitude and had the power to do so. IN Naruto, Naruto wins every major fight, and in Dragon Ball Goku spends times training for a quite bit of episodes and he still doesn't win in the martial arts tournament until the very end. Where Naruto just goes Kyubi and wins all the time if it's a major fight. You know Naruto is just going to go Kyubi and win, it's the same thing over and over again. And if you meant DragonBallZ which you only mentioned once and said Dragon Ball later then the only villian trying to blow up the earth was Cell and Buu. And if you actually watched some episodes you would know that you can only be wished back with a certain set of Dragon Balls once. Naruto gets his Kyubi power by just getting angry, where to turn into a Super Saiyan you have to go through intense training and extreme emotions, the first time and it isn't easy the rest of the time unless you train with it. Naruto is also a lot more predictible than Dragon Ball, as predictible as DBZ.

If the manga caught up to the anime like it did with DBZ early on then it would be just like DBZ with the prolonged fights, repetitive animation. Otherwise Naruto is still similar to DBZ in lots of other ways.

Personally i find that naruto is only similar in the way things can be really drawn out. Not always a bad thing (i relish seeing more of certain characters). But the primary difference is that whereas dragonball (or DRAGONBALL Z, just to please unidentified) the fights where pretty much one on one. With their being one major bad guy. In Naruto (especially now at this point in the manga) there are mutiple enemies at the same time. Also naruto is more character driven (and has much more character development) and theme driven (acknowledgement, self love vs love for others, etc)

Naruto still isnt DBZ. Sure Naruto&#39;s Kyubi charka gives him that power up effect, but the action style, and battle style is tottaly different from dbz.

Look at each other
Power Up for 20 minutes
Fight with repeated fight sceens. &lt;Rare that this happends for 1-5 episdoes straight but it goes on for the episode that they started fighting. Then the next if there is still fighting going on

Naruto 30 Minutes:
More mature story line
Funny as hell.
Ninja Style Battles
No repeted fight sceens. Each one is authentic.

people are only saying that because the 3rd chuunin exam is a tournament like DBZ often has... Just because an anime has a tournament doesn&#39;t mean it&#39;s a DBZ clone. YuYu Hakusho had the Dark Tournament, and I bet people said it was copying DBZ also. Naruto might have a few DBZ similarities because kishimoto did say he loved and was inspired by DBZ, but it&#39;s totally different

mmmm....(nod sagely). totally agree. may i add the ninja fights are original and fun to watch whereas the fights in DBZ are monotonous and boring. oh and another thing when Naruto power up, he dont make constipating noises like all the DBZ character.

quit saying DBZ was so bad, if it was then why was it #1 in japan for a little while (cant remember exact time so dont ask) DBZ for its time was awesome, sure it dragged things on and exeggerated alot, but at the time was still like no other, like Pokemon, that was the shittiest thing round, yet it made billions in 2 years, with cards, now its only cause DBZ is old and youve seen so much other stuff, think back to the time, most likely you loved it, this is why the long scenes bugged you, cause you wanted to get back to the action, you telling me gohan turning ss2 wasnt good, anyway as for Naruto, quit complaing, we obviously know its gonna be the next DBZ for action and popularity, now hopefull it wont drag on as long but its still going to have similarities.

true i enjoyed DBZ but during when Goku was young, i like it because the plot was original and funny, not clinche. but after the Raditz episode, everything went monotonous.

I liked db, and dbz. Naruto is more like db than dbz. Db had more of a plot and a direction. Ya Naruto goes ssj (kyubi), and uses his amazing amounts of ki(chakra) to use the tri form (kage bushin), and sometimes he pulls out the ole kamahamaha(ras), and of course Goku (Naruto) will get beaten badly for 15 minutes vow that he can&#39;t lose... Think about all the people he made promises to, get back up and… 3 episode later he will finally win.

Db/dbz were around for what 10 years???? They went everywhere and did everything…. of course others are going to seemingly copy it. Db is like the simpsons of the anime world. Sidenote.. I remember someone saying something like and I quote...... &quot;Oh gawd, Naruto is becoming to popular... Its no longer an alternative anime; blah I&#39;m sick of it now&quot;. Some people are just fans of trying to be leet and like things that others don&#39;t. i.e they liked dbz till it became cool to dislike it.

With all this said they are as much different as they are similar

edit* ohyeah the real test will be if Gaara pulls a vegeta and becomes good.... In truth I wouldn&#39;t mind.

DBZ I founf to have a rather good story personally, even the it was repetetive it still had a good story for each repetetive saga, now BUU i didnt like, but Cell I loved, I dunno I think too many people bash dbz too much...

naruto = tactical strategies that make you see different things like you never seen them before...

naruto has so much more dept than dbz&#39;s raw fighting

Hmmm... I haven&#39;t noticed anything like that. The only thing what has reminded me of Dragonball Z was when Lee used his high speed combo against Gaara. That was guite inhuman and maybe that went a bit too far, but I definitely haven&#39;t noticed anything else.

Seriously, in the Freiza saga, Frieze form 2 was over 200, 000 pl stronger than Picollo but Piccolo still won and Goku was a lot weaker than Cell and Goku was fighting evenly. You can&#39;t say that it&#39;s just about power.

And Dragon Ball is a lot less predictible than Naruto. They spent episodes of Goku training and he still doesn&#39;t have to win. In the tournaments he faces people of equal strength and he doesn&#39;t just go do a kyubi power thing, he wins by skills or loses by someone more skilled than him ex. Master Roshi vs Goku fight. If Dragon Ball was just about power then Goku wouold have lost a lot of times, a lot of his fights, he was even in power.

It&#39;s better to compare the Dragon BallZ manga to the Naruto manga. Since the manga caught up to the anime so it was dragged out.

I&#39;m tired of people constantly comparing DBZ and Naruto. Give it up already&#33; Every forum I&#39;ve been to with a naruto topic has compared naruto with DBZ.
OK it has some similarities but there are many animes that are similar to eachother
for an example trigun and cowboy bebop, they are both in the future and shooting and stuff and the people has some background problems. macross and other mecha animes they are all similar to eachother. the difference is always the storyline.
