Yes. It is loud, But think of it as Surround sound. IF actualy it is that loud, it might surround the area with noise. The enemy target wil be confused with the loud noise coming from everywhere. Then at the moment when his guard is down, bam, The Chidori will kill him. Seeing how it can cut through anything.

Wll, maybe you'd have to go down to the origin of the word "assassin" to find that one out.

The word assassin comes from the original word "Hassassin" which wasn't really a name but a group of people in some sort of religious sect. The group Hassassin was a group formed in some arab country by muslims. The muslims in this sect made a vow to serve and kill people like The Tempel Knights opposing muslim religion...

Maybe the girl in Diablo 2 is a part of this group who's just to afraid to kill

Edit: Thus, the word assassin isn't to describe silent killing but to describe killing efficiently and also doing it as a way of living and making ones daily bread.

IMO the only really good assasination techniques are Ino's mind and body switch and Shikamaru's kagemune no jutsu. Also the point of assasinations is to kill a person but why in the hell would you like to make a bunch of noise while doing it. It would just cause a comotion. Anyways the chidori only makes that really loud sound when it is moving at a high speed. If you can get behind your target you could do it without making any noise.

Man, aren't you guys listening? The word assassinate doesn't mean silent killing in any way. Why even mention silence in this thread when Chidori is considered a great way of killing because it kills if one hits his opponent. It is the power of efficiency that counts.

Chidori is cool only i dont understand why they keep saying how it is chakra around his hand and the reason it got the nick Lightning strike, isnt cuz it looks like electricity from his hand but because he once cut a lightning with it O_o

why does assassination have to be silent?

its a good jutsu for assassination because its a lot of chakra used against 1 person, and will almost certainly kill them if it connects.

IIRC correctly when sasuke's arm is in gaara's cocoon and he can't pull it out he uses chidori and it still DOES it's sound of chirping birds...

so it can't be used to kill someone silently, but that's strange that when kakashi used chidori we couldn't hear that sound... no matter if he was running or just standing.

well he got to break through gaara's ABSOLUTE defence, he broke through, he managed to hurt gaara pretty much if u ask me.
Gaara didn't seem to be very happy when shell cracked and heavy breathing he was holding his bleeding wound, just listen to the moment when sasuke uses chidori second time, when his hand is already in cocoon and he can't pull it out, gaara's screams are like music

Yup, one hit kills... But there is also one thing what makes it a good assasination jutsu... Did you remember when Kakashi tried to kill Zabuza, but unfortunately hitted Haku. There was no sound at all, because he didn't have such a fast speed there. So Chidori can be used without the fast speed, even it's propably easier to the opponent to dodge the attack when using a low speed, but the low speed Chidori definitely kills with one hit too, that's what we have already seen. And when using the low speed, it doesn't make the noise.

thats right but @low speed it is not that powerful, without the fast speed, sasuke wopuld never be able to hurt gaara..

kunai and shurikens are not used to kill, simply to distract.
