::Shrug:: Sorry if the "fanboy" remark bothered/offended you, but I stand by what I said. This is my reasoning regarding Itachi, the Akatsuki and the manga's future...
I don't think Itachi is going to appear out of nowhere at the middle of a story-arc that so far has nothing to do with Akatsuki. Think of it like this - when Itachi and Akatsuki appeared for the first time, it was after the Chuunin Exam/Sand and Sound Invasion story-arc.
Afterwards, we had the "Find Tsunade" story arc and then, thanks to Itachi's appareance, we now have the "Sasuke goes evil story-arc", from when Sasuke and Naruto fight to Kimimaro's appareance.
But so far, this story-arc (and its been what, 30 chapters long?) has revolved only about Orochimaru.
In other words, what I'm saying is that Orochimaru, while weaker than Itachi and (possibly) some other members from the Akastuki, is a much more present threat. The manga has to deal with Orochimaru before dealing with Aakatsuki, simply because Oro's ex-boss is there (we don't know who rules the Akatsuki, but he/she/it must be very strong to rule over Itachi).
So perhaps we'll have Oro for just one more story-arc. It's not that farfetched, if you think of it:
Introduction/Establishment: Chuunin Exam arc. (First appareance, kills the 3rd, gives Sasuke the seal)
Set-back: Tsunade arc. (has sealed arms, Tsunade refuses to heal him)
Recovering: Evil Sasuke arc. (gets new body, possibly new apprentice)
Death?: Following arc? Two more arcs?
Needless to say, this is just a vague idea, but I'm still pretty sure that they'll deal with Orochimaru before dealing with Akatsuki... and unless the manga is going to be 500+ chapters (yay!!, it should happen sometime soon...
