Isn't it strange that in episode 16 when kakashi does chidori also known as lightning strike that it doesn't make that annoying bird chirping noise while when sasuke does it, it makes that noise.

Excactly. (I think )
The chirping sound SHOULD have been there, has anyone checked?
I don't remember very well, but I also seem to think there was no chirping sound back then.

You don't need high speed to "Gather Chakra". Kakashi could not make the chirping noises because he was already close to zabuza.

Kakashis only made the first part of the technique while creating the lightings and teh strike itself without gathering lots of speed...Zabuza was immobile so it was not nessecary

kakashi also used it when oro confront him, and it has no chirping sound, so it must be related to moving at high speed.
unless kakashi can control his chakra better so that less energy is wasted in creating the sound and it all goes into creating the ball of electricity
so sasuke is probably jst a noob at it

ok look Lighthing edge is a nickname for chidori so both are the same .. gai said the technique to make chidori work was hightend flesh and that makes a sound of a thousand birds flying at you ... thats why its called chidori
so in other words they just missed it cuz without hightend flesh you dont have chidori ( gai words )

i beleve the sound is made cuz the chakra is cutting thru the air as the user moves (just like how thunder is created from lightning), and since the "offical" move involves moving at high speed and stabbing ur opponent, it makes a noise, hence its name. when kakashi does it, he'd already pretty close, so theres no sound involved.

I think they just added the chirping sound as an added effect to help Gai's explanation of the move and its origin.

When Gai says that it is the perfect assassination technique wouldnt that not be true because if you were standing there and you heard like thousands of birds coming at you wouldnt u do something or atleast run. Isnt it true that you try to be as silent as possible as not to alert enemies. Also when i started thinking how come Kawarimi no Jutsu hasnt been used in a while. You know body sustitution I wonder
