Just wondering, what sort of software is used for applying and timing the subtitles?

rather than explain this, I'll just link to timecop's digisub guide.
It's about the clearest explanation of the whole process, it's informative and precise, and it has a good section on timing, which is what you are asking about.
You might also like apr (from infusion)'s guide to fansubbing. He goes into less detail than timecop did, but trades off with a bigger-picture view.

errr .. dude .. i cant seem to find e software you mentioned on ya reply.
Dont mind, to all ya out there. can recommend me some great tools for nice karaoke effects. can Sub Station Alpha v4.08 do it properly. i'm only familiar wif VirtualDub, and not so much on sub-titling, thought the basics i do know..
my question is ... REcommend me anysoftware to create GREAt karaoke effects.. thanks..
