Thread: Winamp5

  1. #1
For all you windows users out there, I downloaded Winamp5 today and I'm completely blown out of the water. It's got everything. A CD ripper, CD burner, video playback, internet radio and internet tv listings, and of course an mp3 player. Man, it's a sweet ass player. What's everyone else thing about it? Of course it's not without it's problems. But overall I think it's a pretty solid package.

WA5 is awesome. I've been using it since it was in its beta stages. It's a great media player playing all types of media, but still prefer BSPlayer for videos. I've watched the Japanese version of MTV on Winamp5 a lot. They play a lot of J-pop.

I used to use winamp5, but for some reason I couldn't get sound on all my speakers.. so I checked the version file and read that multi-channel output wasn't supported. So I changed back. Other than that tiny, yet vital, flaw I found winamp5 to be a tight package.

I went from winamp 2 to 5, since it is a much better evolution of the software when compared to 3 (which was far too slow imo).

5 kicks the lama's ass, and rightfully so

love wa5 apart from the fact that it uses 98% of my CPU resources (so everything runs slow as f*ck) as soon as i close it down, so i have to endtask it every time i exit it. v annoying

Winamp 5 doens't hog up any resources on my box, and I only have 256MBs of RAm at the moment.

The hell? When did Winamp 4 come out?

  10. #10
i dont even know if they made winamp 4. they were probably this "screw this, we think this is SOO good that it can skip a version number" but anyway, i been using wm3 for a long time even though they dropped it.

just dled wm5...that thing is cool. will now split time between 3 and 5

There was no version 4. There probably was a version 4 never released, btu it probably sucked more than version 3. Version 3 was a resource hog, and very large in file size.

You guys need to learn basic maths...

They combined 2.x's best parts and 3's cosmetics...

    2+3=what? Tell me? what?

    5! Yes, that's right! 5! hah... *ahem*

Yeah, that's the real reason why they skipped number 4... Seriously.

Are you talking about the beta version or did they release the regular one?

  14. #14
I used Wa2 but now im using wa5 and i like it.

Winamp5 is no longer beta. So yea, we're talking about the release version (at least I think we all are). What I'd like to see them fix are the onscreen controls in fullscreen video mode. With how slick the modern skin looks those controls just don't flow with the rest of the player. But on the upside I just found out about the golbal hotkey functionality. Winamp just keeps getting better and better.

On a side note, anyone remember Winamp 1.0? I used to have it lying around on a floppy somewhere (yes, at one point all of Winamp used to fit on a single floppy disk), but I probably tossed it.

hmm now that i finally customized my winamp5 enough, its my main winamp...then 3 is on the side just in case...i dont know but its still there none the less. and if you read the faw somewhere they had several reason why its winamp5

    What happened to Winamp 4?
You're not imagining things. Yes, we skipped a version number for the following reasons:

    * Winamp 5 combines the best aspects of Winamp 2 and Winamp 3 into one player. Hence Winamp 2 + Winamp 3 = Winamp 5!
    * Who the hell wants to see a Winamp 4 Skin
    * We think that a Fibonacci sequence for versioning might be pretty damn cool.
    * We improved so much in Winamp 5 that we figured it warranted skipping a version.

mmm been watching internet tv for a while. the jpop station and the xrm station with chat is fun
